Breakdown of expenses for 2 people:

Plane Tickets: $480 We flew coach with American Airlines as it was the cheapest option. On the way there we did not have seats together but on the way back home we did. Not a big deal but be prepared to pay more if you select American and want seats together as their seating system is kind of wacky. The flights were direct flights.

Lodging: $1,040 We stayed at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Washinton DC Convention Center. It was a central location near almost everything so that we could walk to most places. This particular deal had free breakfast in the morning and free drinks and snacks between 5:30PM and 7:30PM. The hotel was very nice and the bed was comfortable. Our room was quite large so it didn’t feel like we were coming into just a room and more like coming into an apartment. The room had a kitchenette but it didn’t have a hot plate; only a sink and a mini fridge.

Transportation: $243.56 This one is a bit tricky because I debated renting a car, however, renting a car alone would have been much, much more expensive and I would have had the stress of having to worry about the car I rented, paying for parking, and paying for the gas for it. Renting a car alone, the most cost effective one I could find was $49 dollars a day and at 5 days that was already $245, then add the cost of parking, gas, insurance, etc. it would have been way more so we decided to use Lyft everywhere. It can be reduced drastically if your travelling partner is willing to walk or bike ride; mine wasn’t. I could have saved $60~ if my SO was willing to walk a bit more. I’d like to mention that the cost of transportation includes a $16.75 all-day Metro Card I used to go from McPherson Square Station in DC to Reston, VA, a Lyft ride from the Reston station to the Udvar-Hazy Museum (The other part of the Air and Space museum located in Chantilly, VA) and then the same rides back so that was a little expensive.
