Participation was very low on this one, so I can't attest to its validity, but I think it's worth sharing anyway.
This week: The 1975!
Hey all,
Due to the very low participation on this week's Mercury Rev TTT, I'm extending the voting period by another week. Votes will be due on Monday, 9/21.

Our DIIV TTT will still be posted on Tuesday, as originally planned!
I have to preface this with the fact that I'm quite ignorant about the state of underground music during the late 90βs. At the time, I was listening to Radiohead, NOFX, Deftones, RATM, etc.. When Yoshimi came out, it blew up and I really liked it. It took me a few years before I worked my way back to TSB and when I did, I fell in love with it. It was so different to anything I was used to. I heard/read a little about how other people received it and it seems like it was well received both critically and popularly but Iβm not truly certain.
Anyway.. Mercury Revβs Deserterβs Songs was just recommended to me. Upon first listen, I was stunned at how much it sounded like TSB--like, the whole thing sounds almost exactly like it, right down to how the vocalist sings some of the songs. I shared it with a friend who also loved the TSB and she too was stunned by the similarities.
I wasnβt in the underground scene at the time, so Iβd like to know for those people who were aware of Mercury Rev, what was the reception to DS? When TSB came out, was there a sense that The Lips ripped off the album? What was it like to hear TSB after listening to DS?
Anyway.. just curious, thank you!
