I think I remember something in the books about the Hastings family using a surrogate mother to have Spencer and keeping it a secret from her. Something about the theme lately with Veronica's medical issues, weird conversations about "why she decided to have kids," and the whole Emily egg donation storyline, I think they might bring in a story like this. Since we know that Peter was more closely connected to Jessica than he should have been at that time, maybe he was also involved in some way with Mary. He could have used her as a "surrogate" to cover up the fact that he (or someone else) got her pregnant, and Veronica has no idea that it wasn't a legit surrogacy. Or perhaps it was a legit surrogacy and Peter chose Mary as a favor to Jessica to help her sister make a little money, and Mary got overly attached and did not want to give them the baby, and envisioned a life with her, Peter and the baby (and now refers to him as her "ex").
Lotsa peeps think that Mary Drake is Spencer or Melissa's Bio-mom but my questions are...Mary had Charles in Radley and was given up to her sister Jessica to take care of...By the time Spencer would of been born Mary would of been out of Radley correct? So why would she hand over her child to Veronica and Peter (they aren't rumplestilskin lol ) It would only make sense to me if Mary had another child that was given up it would be in Radley where they HAD to take the child away...which would point more towards Melissa? But if Melissa is her bio-daughter possibly due to Peter being the father, (I see no other reason why the Hastings would take in the child since they hate the Dilaurentis's unless Peter was the dad)...Veronica would obviously be aware...why would she be a huge c*nt towards Jason and not towards Melissa?
Remember in one of the episodes it was back when the girls were held captive in the doll house. Spencer's Mom and Dad were going through files and Veronica picked up something and Peter stopped her from looking at it and he made the comment something about there being secrets or something that he didn't want to bring up. Maybe Veronica raised Melissa or Spencer as one of her own but they never told the girls and Veronica was lied to about the mother.
Another poster mentioned a few days ago the possibility of Mary being the biological mother of one or both of the Hastings daughters. I know in the books Veronica had cancer treatments that left her unable to carry children and Spencer was born to a surrogate.
Do you think they would go down this road in the series? It might have just been me but I thought Mary looked a lot like Spencer in the promo pictures released.
I also think it could explain Peter's attitude toward Radley, the secret he and Melissa seems to share, Melissa's relationship with Charlotte and A's desire to destroy Emily's eggs (Melissa or Mary in my guess). It would also explain Mary's interest in the Hastings sisters and why Melissa might become A to avenge Charlotte.(she is my best bet for the final reveal)
What do you think? I can see how this would be a pretty interesting reveal(particularly if Peter and Jessica worked together to keep Mary in radley over the years) but it is also pretty damn similar to the plot of Finding Carter. Would you be happy for them to go this way? Or do you think its something entirely different going on?
