A list of puns related to "Martin Smith"
The duo honestly helped with the immersion of a match. Sure, there were loads of cheesy lines (3 of the best, heβs made them pay!), but I absolutely the conversations theyβd have. It all sounded so natural, very much like an actual, proper broadcast. Obviously, for some of the smaller leagues there were little to no extra dialogue that youβd get when playing in the Top 5 leagues, but they still sounded fluid. They would have genuine conversations, mostly about Smithβs playing days, and you could tell there was genuine chemistry.
Now we have Derek Rae and Stewart Robson, the latter who is as stiff in his delivery as a statue, and the former whose pronunciations on some names drive me up the wall. They have very little natural dialogue, and no chemistry at all. I know many of you will play listening to podcasts or music, but as someone who usually does neither, I like having good commentary on when Iβm playing, especially when they have such an authentic broadcast experience (for a few leagues).
I hope in the future we get a better commentary duo, I canβt put up with these presumably cheaper options anymore.
With their selections to the Pro Bowl this year, I think Tyron Smith and Zack Martin probably cemented their HoF resumes.
Consider:
The only tackles with at least 8 PB selections who are not in the Hall are Trent Williams (0 All-Pros, but might get in), Jason Peters (2 All-Pros, will get in), Jim Tyrer (played mostly in the AFL, probably won't get in), Joe Thomas (6 All-Pros, will get in), and Smith.
At guard, Martin is the only player other than Jahri Evans who has 4 All-Pro teams and is not in the Hall; Martin just passed Evans with his 7th Pro Bowl.
I look forward to seeing both of these players don the Gold Jacket one day. Congratulations to both.
Yes, really.
At the moment, we understand Jo Martin's Doctor as a pre-Hartnell incarnation (presumably, though not necessarily, immediately before Hartnell and immediately after the Morbius Doctors).
She's a secret incarnation of the Doctor, with all memory of this incarnation repressed and erased - discovering her now representing a big shock to both the Doctor herself and the audience at home. It's also an indication of the Awesome and Terrible Power of the Division - they're such a big deal, they've been able to hide big details of the canon from you, reaching far into the Doctor's long-ago mysterious past.
However.
What if they were more powerful than that - what if they rewrote the part of the show you actually saw?
Part of this, to be honest, is that I like the idea of the big swing - if you're going to go back and vandalise the past, really commit to it. Take the single most watched regeneration so far, and tell everyone they remember it wrong - reshoot sections, if you can, and play a version of "I don't want to go" that leads right into Jo Martin walking around the coral console room. (Does it still exist? You could greenscreen it and then play it as a hazy memory, there's a workaround.)
I admire the willingness to rewrite canon, to not leave it as this static monument that you've got to revere and never re-examine - but I think doing a pre-Hartnell Doctor is a little easy, isn't it? If you're really going to do a secret Doctor, I think it's better to commit to it, to be as deliberately and pointedly blasphemous as you can
It's also not really like any of the Division stuff so far (granted, this may change) is especially reliant on being pre-Hartnell stuff, particularly given how it is mostly separate from the Timeless Child reveal - the basic "the Doctor is forced to work as a secret agent for a shadowy group" idea can fit anywhere (and often has, e.g. Series 6b), and arguably moving it post-Hartnell actually fits better with that character arc of his.
(We can also even have the same arguments about canon. It fits better with Time of the Doctor - Matt Smith really was the last regeneration, the metacrisis wasn't the issue at all! When the Matt Smith says "I'm a girl" in The End of Time, it's not because his hair is long, it's a rapidly fading memory of being Jo Martin! That's why her TARDIS is a police box in Fugitive of the Judoon!)
I quite like the idea of the rewrite being explicit to the text, too - like, this is specifica
