A list of puns related to "Maeve"
We are expecting a baby girl in June and having quite the time narrowing our list. Yesterday we did a March Madness style bracket and got down to these three names- Astrid, Violet, and Maeve. Middle name will be Elise as it is a family name on both sides. But now we feel stuck as we like all three.
Dad is Irish/German with McKenna as last name which baby will have.
I'm Swedish/Norwegian with a Scandinavian first name (Maren) and have spent my entire life having my name mispronounced /misspelled and want to try and give my daughter an easier time with that although no name is perfect in this sense.
We live is SW USA but have a lot of family in UK and Germany so want a name that all can say.
Thanks for any advice/input!
Edit: Thank you all so much! I never expected this much attention.
I love The Office, but I think because I already knew of the name Astrid before watching, that scene did not have as big of an impact. I think of Astrid Lindgren or Astrid from White Oleander. We were reading about the nickname Asti which I think is cute, but I don't have a nickname so it's not a deal breaker for a name not to easily lend itself to one.
My name is pronounced MAHR-enn where the first sylable rhymes with car. My European relatives do roll the r softly, but in the US I don't bother with that haha. I love Maren Morris, but since she came on the scene even fewer people can remember how I pronounce it. I don't usually correct people after awhile.
Thank you for all the suggestions you've given me. After over a month, I've narrowed down my final list of names. Yay!
Do you like Rae, Quinn, Maeve or Ruth? My last name is Pham, sounds like Fam if that helps. Which one flows and sounds the best do you think? How would you rank them?
Rae Fam
Quinn Fam
Maeve Fam
Ruth Fam
(All of my anime lovers like Rae so much, but I don't think it's an actual standalone name is it?)
Edited: Woah! Thanks for your comments! It seems like Rae is a cute nickname but not a good standalone name.
Edited#2: 2 comments suggest that 2+ syllable first name would sound better with 1-syllable surname. Where I grew up, everyone has 1-syllable first, last and middle name, so this thought didn't occur to me, but it's a good point. Do you think I should look into multiple syllable first name?
Baby is coming in a few weeks and we are undecided on name. We really liked Maeve both because itβs pretty, Irish and starts with an M (last name is also M). A very close couple friend has just (as luck would have it) named their daughter Maeve. We werenβt set on it 100 percent but it was near the top. I feel like Iβve scoured many lists and but wanted opinions on similar feeling names - I love vintage names and bonus if they have a great nickname and start with M π
Other names we are considering: Theodora, Edith (nn Edie of course), Stella, Margot or Rosemary (for nn Romy). Thanks!
i beg yβall to stop villainizing maeve for getting closer to isaac and 99% of her actions. i keep seeing people hating on her but i am not entirely sure everyone realizes how alone she was at the end of season 2. she had to call the social services on her mum, who basically told her she wanted nothing to do with her from now on. her sister was being taken away and she obviously lost trust in otis after the party. aimee was trying to heal from a traumatic experience and the only person left maeve could trust was isaac. they spent the whole summer together and their bond became a codependent relationship for different reasons. maeve needed emotional and financial support. isaac was able to give her that. he was there for her and wanted maeve to be close to him (the moment otis shows up he becomes aggressive and super defensive. he knows how maeve feels about him and that otis loves her.) it also plays a MAJOR role the whole βno one understands you better than i doβ argument. maeve starts to firmly believe that. she even mentions this is the reason why she wants to give him a real chance βwe just get each otherβ and the same reason why she fights with aimee βyou donβt get it. we live in completely different worlds aimee.β and why she doesnβt go back to otis even after finding out about the voicemail βotis doesnβt understand me.β about otis, i would also add the fact that she believed he became someone who didnβt give a f*ck about anyone, anymore. itβs not easy to walk away from a codependent relationship, let alone realize youβre in it when youβve never seen or had an example of healthy relationship. it might be frustrating to watch but maeveβs arc in season 3 (not sure if the writers did this on purpose) definitely touched an incredibly sad reality. i think we can all be sure season 4 is gonna be different considering maeve lives with anna and elsie now, motis share mutual and strong feelings for each other and aimeeβs definitely in a better place thanks to her therapy session with jean.
note: youβre allowed to dislike her if sheβs not your type of character but disliking her for being manipulated ainβt it.
My husband and I have been set on Maeve for over a year, pre-pregnancy, and Iβm due next month. We definitely got it from a combo of TV shows (Sex Education, Westworld, The Boys) so itβs not surprising that we arenβt alone in discovering the name. We both LOVE it and considered it to be her name, but Iβm having trepidations with how popular it is right now. I donβt want the βthree Maeves in my classroomβ future, or the name thatβs clearly from a specific half-decade years down the road. Husband is pretty firm on loving the name and staying the course.
Question one, especially after searching this group: this name is about to explode, right? Letβs leave out βdo we care about popularityβ because thatβll just be a household choice.
Question two: our middle name is Dora after my grandmother Dorothy. Iβm down with it as a first name, but wondering if Dora the Explorer has completely overtaken it for the time being. Not hip on current kid stuff and whether that show is sticking around.
I actually have some scenarios in my head how could it possibly happen but I'm corious what are your opinions. I have a feeling that it's gonna happen at Otis' place maybe on her second visiting (I doubt it's gonna be on the first but who knows). If it'll happen on her first visiting then I think it's gonna be somehow like he shows her around the house and then when he shows her his vinyl collection she asks him if she could put on some music and then it gets pretty romantic and they start kissing and then they go all the way. But if it's happen on her second visiting it probably will be when they're home alone and the sexual tension become unbareable as soon as they enter his room and then you know the rest. These are my opinions but tell me what you think.
I absolutely donβt get her whole βmy daughterβ story. I mean, she literally went there to find her and her βnewβ mother who replaced her storyline. So wtf does Maeve think: βyeah I know you have a new mother but I am your old one so please hang with me and let me steal you from your current one?β
So many people and hosts died and no one ever said something about her already having a loving mother. What would she think?
And the events in s3β¦. Speechless. Never understand why someone likes Maeve tbh
One of the coolest sprites on the planet.

Who would you like to see?
To be honest after all thatβs happened I wouldnβt mind them just talking properly for once, but I would really like to see them have actual fun doing an activity similar to the bowling scene in s3.
I personally believe it would, especially if you hyped them up every season. How do you guys feel about this?
I can't play the game cuz of Maeve. Idk how to explain this.. im just afraid of this champion, it's like a phobia for me. When i see Maeve in enemy team i start to panic, i lose my concentration, my aim, i start to do random things, feeding etc., i think you can imagine a human in panic condition, just connect it to the game.
The sad fact about it is that i know that Maeve is WEAK flank. Like she is countered by mostly all dds, any control/stun, she doesn't have defend abilities and in fact i can easily deal with her on my mains(Cassie, Andro). I can(or at least could in past, cuz now i don't play often) solo carry on my mains but when i see maeve..i described it above. It just ruins my whole career. I mean it DOESN'T RLY MATTER how good that Maeve player is, he can be the worst Maeve ever but the only fact of her presence in the match makes me panic and fear so hard so i can't play.
What should I do with this? I rly don't play often now, but i still play just sometimes and i want to get pleasure of it. I mean i get it when there is NO MAEVE CHAMPION in enemy draft, but im that bad luck that i get Maeve like in my EVERY GAME even in freakin ranked(d1 btw, that is not the rank Maeve is played well, but it still chases me even there). I just want to get the freaking chill out of those 10 matches that i play per a week but like in 6-7 out of those 10 i get Maeve against me and it doesn't let me to play.
The first two seasons I fully believed Maeve and Otisβ were meant to be. They had such good chemistry and there unrequited love situations was so relatable. When they still hung out knowing one liked the other. Then the third season changed EVERYTHING for me. Ruby and Otisβ fling turning into a relationship was so good. I think Ruby knew deep down that Otis loved Maeve but she couldnβt bring herself to believe it. Then the βI love youβ scene crushed me. When she tried to tell her friends but covered it up by saying she knew everybody was supposed to love her. She deserved wayyy better than what she got with Otis. I also feel like her and Amy couldβve been way good friends if Ruby had let her guard down a little more.
We are expecting a girl and my husbandβs favorite name is Maeve. I have a couple others I like but donβt hate Maeve, but I canβt decide if itβs too abrupt. One day I love it and the next day Iβm meh about it. Another name that is high on our list is Austen but the hesitation with that one is the fact that itβs typically a boy name (spelled Austin obviously). What do you all think? Our son also has a unisex name which fits him well.
Any chance this is making a return? All I've found about it online is posts from a few years back and just thought i'd might aswell ask here ^^
From Cold Days:
<<Justine made a quiet sound and went to Macβs side. Maeveβs eyes fastened on her. βAnd the vampireβs crumpet. Luscious little thing, arenβt you? And so close to Lady Raith. You and I are going to have a long talk after this, darling. I just know youβre going to start to see things my way.β Justine didnβt look at Maeve, and didnβt answer. She didnβt look frightenedβjust concerned for Mac. Maybe because Justine was not the most balanced and danger-aware person I knew. Or maybe her poker face was just way better than mine.>>
Or maybe they're both already on the same team...
okay so i have an issue with maeve sheβs supposed to be all smart and powerful and have been planning this like forever
but then she meets aelin in heir of fire and instead of acting nice and trying to endear herself so aelin might trust her she acts like a bitch IT IS IN HER BEST INTEREST TO HAVE AELIN ON HER SIDE!!?! and then she sends rowan (the piece of leverage that she speant hundreds of years schemeing to get and keep) to go teach aelin believing heβd be an asshole
but if she thinks heβll be an asshole then WHY WOULD SHE SEND HIM
the whole point of having rowan was that she could use him as levarage cuz aelin cares about him
if they meet, and heβs an asshole then aelin not only wonβt notice theyβre mates, SHE WONT CARE at this point aelin is completely disconnected from being fake, she actively avoids it she wouldnβt want a mate like yea she wouldnβt like it if maeve killed rowan after the fact but she wouldnβt really understand that before hand so sheβd say she didnβt care regardless
and rowan? well maeve makes it so that he hates aelin, which would be a great strategy to get him to stay on her side, accept she knew they were mates and she was surprised when they didnβt meaning she thought rowan would figure it out in which case WHY ARE YOU LETTING THEM MEET EACH OTHER AND SPEND MULTIPLE MONTHS TOGETHER?!
like bitch if you thought that theyβd figure it out then why make him be so rude, if you want him to form an emotional connection with her then why then why did she bother letting him think sheβs a privileged little princess? like yeah it worked for her bad mental state and a nice person wouldnβt have gotten her to do anything but maeve had no way of knowing that
and then she trades him??
she trades the biggest piece of leverage she has and also one of the most powerful fae in the world to her enemy
for a ring that she probably wanted destroyed since it allows the wearer to not be controlled by valg
but aelin said if she didnβt do the trade then sheβd melt the ring
SO WHY DID SHE MAKE THE TRADE INSTEAD OF JUST KEEPING HER WEAPON/LEVRAGE AND LETTING AELIN MELT THE RING
and yeah you could say that aelin had her city surrounded but maeve had aelin surrounded by a bunch of fae warriors who could beat her especially working together not to mention rowan who could just choke out the flames LIKE SERIOUSLY WHY??
was it so aelin would believe she won? cuz if she had literally just put the cards down then and there aelin would
