This song is probably my favorite Zeppelin track. Just wanted to appreciate it yet another time:
What makes this piece so appealing to me, is the beautiful and consistent "narrative". I can't stress enough how much I love the meaningful correspondence between the lyrics and instrumentals. Lyrically, neither the phrasing nor the concept is anything complex, but the delivery is just so sweet!
At the start of the song, Page plays in a lost, frustrated way, as our narrator is. After each line, it sounds like him and JPJ are trying to emphasize and exhibit the words in their own language. One fine example: Plant warns us: "I'm about to lose my worried mind... watch out!" Page starts that amazing solo and all hell breaks loose... our boy has lost his mind! The funniest, most interesting part, in my opinion, is where Plant sings: "My tears they fell like rain, Don't you hear them? Don't you hear them fallin'?" And Bonzo's drums mimic the sound of some heavy fucking tears falling!
Oh mama, how I love this song.
