A list of puns related to "Lotr Name"
I love how much effort Tolkien put into creating his languages and I always found his names a lot of fun to pronounce even back when I hadn't studied his extensive notes on pronunciation.
Now that we actually know so much about his intention I find some of the mispronunciations I hear in podcasts, videos and audiobooks jarring. I simply don't get how people can be Tolkien enthusiasts and then NOT bother to learn about his languages which are the backbone of his entire creation.
So what are the most annoying mispronunciations to you?
Angmar, Arragorn with an inital a as in bat
Dagor Aglareb with an American R and an a as in bat
Caradhras and any name with a DH in it just pronounced as D instead of a voiced TH sound.
This is your chance to vent a bit, it's not meant to spur hatred, mind you, just to get something off your chest:)
No since I aslwo want to offer some guidance as to HOW Tolkien actually wanted to have the names pronounced, here is a video series on pronouncing Tolkien's beatiful Sindarin names: Did I get all the names right?

part 1: names
part 2 place names
Avatar, LOTR, Starcraft, Terminator are some of the few I remember. Maybe Pirates of the Caribbean too? That sound familiar to anyone?
We all know Tolkien attached a huge importance to names. Obviously he was incredibly skilled at finding names and creating roots to give them meaning and connections. In LOTR, three of the leaders of Men, Denethor, Boromir, and Aragorn, are all the 2nd. Denethor's father is also named in honor of a prior Ecthelion, and Denethor's very name is a throwback to the FA. Does anyone on this subreddit have insights into the significance of these Numenorean characters (even lesser descendants like the Stewards) all being "X the 2nd"? (Also, this is my first post, if there's another subreddit better suited for this question I appreciate any pointers!)
Despite the incredibly wide reach of the Lord of the Rings Series, I had never read them before last year. At least part of that was my expectations of the books being incredible, and worrying that they would be too dense and long to get through. I expected daring adventure, high fantasy, great lines and friendship pulling together our heroes. In the broadest of strokes, that was what I got. From this point on, assume Spoilers.
Excluding the Hobbit, which I had already read, the series was extremely depressing. The lightest book, Fellowship of the Ring, is occasionally laced with danger and horror, but you never feel that the heroes could be harmed. Itβs a little like how in a TV show, the protagonist will always survive, and the stakes feel lower, because of that meta-knowledge. I knew Frodo wins, Sauron is vanquished, etc etc, so why worry? By the time the Two Towers began, and for most of Return of the King, which I only just finished, the books were an unhalting march of the horrors of war and duty. People dying left and right, every victory nearly Pyrrhic, it was awful.
The world and the story and writing and characters were all masterfully crafted. The series has issues with lack of representation for women, but that is itβs only flaw. The power of friendship brings our heroes to victory, and despite the gut punches delivered with each passing chapter, the starvation of the hobbits, their isolation, the losing battles and the ending of the Fellowship, it was excellent. I donβt know if Iβve ever read something better, and I doubt I ever will. The story is just so momentous that itβs impossible to leave behind.
On the whole, if youβre looking for a light-hearted romp, or a quick read, or something fun, this is the wrong book. But it is an epic in the truest sense, and the care and detail put into the world is so evident that you canβt help but admire it. Not all literature is art, but Lord of the Rings most definitely is.
I have found many weird and outrageous (as expected) usernames whilst playing TF2 I have an odd one myself, but we'll get to that at the end. The two LOTR related usernames that I can name off the top of my head are "BILBO SWAGGINS" and "Jolkien Rolkien Rolkien Tolkien" When it comes to my username I am called "Rumple-Foreskin" If you have seen any odd LOTR names please leave them in the comments, I have a feeling I might make a few more of these posts naming off other weird usernames I've found, like "Lego Yoda Death Noise"
I want to know the LOTR track playing as the background music in this video. Can anyone identify the name of this song/track from the LOTR franchise? It sounds like a theme-type song, not some specific scene. It could be a LOTR video game theme, or perhaps it's from one of the movies. If it turns out this is several LOTR songs and not just one song on repeat, I'm most interested in the song playing at the time stamped in the following link (same link&time as above).

If anyone knows the name of that track, I will be most appreciative if you help me.
Hi, I am turning to you guys for help!
Me and my Partner are adopting a cat on Sunday! (Super excited and I know not explicitly LOTR related) however I was hoping you could help me name him something suitably Lord of the Ringsie.. needs to be similar to Sooty (the cats current name as we don't want to depart too far and confuse him :)
Let me have you best suggestions!!
I use Venmo. If you like, I can commission some mini terrain for you. My work is not professional, but serviceable.
Will pay extra for items on the sprues, but I do not care if itβs painted, unpainted, assembled or not, so long as it is not damaged or otherwise defective.
One offs are fine, but if the transaction goes well then Iβll be making purchases frequently.
What is everyoneβs favorite lord of the rings or JRR Tolkien names? Iβve always loved how melodic Arwen sounds, and I think it still works as a legitimate name!
We took a trip to a local shelter this week and met this beautiful little lady who will officially be joining our family on Tuesday. She's a ~6 month old cattle dog/pit mix and will have a brother named Gimli, a border collie/cattle dog mix. Her shelter name is Oreo and we were initially planning on naming her Eowyn or Arwen (Winnie for short) to stick with the LOTR theme, but my husband is concerned we're painting ourselves into a corner and wants to consider off-theme names.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
I hope this is allowed here - sorry if not. I just got home two new gerbil boys, and I tend to name my gerbils LotR-themed. Names I've used in the past is: Bilbo, Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn. The large one is 1,5 years old and brown with a cream-coloured belly. The small guy is 6 weeks and white with a dark tail.
I'm considering Gandalf an Radagast since, obviously, one is brown and one is white... And Faramir is a favourite character of mine so thinking about that for the brown one. But there's so many beautiful names in LotR and I just can't choose! Any other suggestions?
