(BRASILIA) Highlighting the growing special relationship between Brazil and Angola, Brazil's President Claudio Correia has appointed appointed an Angolan citizen to his cabinet, enabled by an equality statute signed between the two countries which essentially makes both passports equivalent.

Leila Lopes is a former actress and model who won Miss Universe 2011, wowing crowds in Sao Paulo and leading to fame at least within the industry in Brazil.

Ms. Lopes has previously advocated for humanitarian issues such as raising awareness for HIV/AIDS and will likely lead a much more protectionist Ministry, still ridden by the reputation of Bolsonaro era lack of care for the Amazon rain forest among other natural treasures.

The move is expected to raise Brazil's soft power in Angola, formally accepting the latter as a non-foreign nation. Critics of the government hope to raise opposition to the move, highlighting outrage that a non-Brazilian would be appointed to such a high profile job in the federal government.

Angola has become a key ally for Brazil and vice versa, epitomized by Brazil's Operation Humane Choice which, among other strategic considerations, aims to isolate Angola's Cabinda province from the spillover of refugees and violence from the Republic of the Congo.

Five days before landfall.

"Leila? Leila? Can you hear me?"

Someone was shaking me, and being jostled wasn't helping with my aching everything. I felt so sore. Sore, weak, and hollow. I just wanted to rest.

"Can you hear me?" The voice spoke fast enough that the words tumbled over each other in a way that my sluggish mind had trouble deciphering, but the frantic tone caught my attention. "C'mon, Leila. Please. Open your eyes."

Darkness met me as I cracked my eyes open, and then a blurry face swam into view.

"Gwydion? What... what happened?"

"Let me get a look at your eyes... Oh thank the Lord. C'mon. Up and at 'em, Leila. We gotta get out of here before they come back."

"Before who come back?" I sat up with a groan. Unfamiliar fabric shifted around my body when I did, and I realized that I was wrapped in Sean's duster. In fact, Sean's duster was pretty much the only thing I was wearing; my shirt was little more than a remnant of tattered fabric that was practically falling off of my body, and my pants weren't in much better shape. My hijab was gone, and my hair fell in a wild tangle to my waist. "Where's Sean?"

I saw as I scanned my surroundings that I was in a narrow alley that was more like a cave; makeshift balconies and fire escapes jutted from the buildings on either side of me, and what open space that remained was a tangle of power and phone lines strung like garlands between the buildings; a pair of old sneakers hung from one. The pavement felt slimy. It was, I realized, strewn with garbage that had probably come from an overturned dumpster nearby. The whole place smelled terrible.

Gwydion stepped into my field of vision again. I blinked at him, so dazed that it took me a moment to realize that he offered me a hand to help me up, and a moment more for me to register the sorry state he was in. Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
