In February 2018, Israeli journalist Ronen Bergman published "Rise & Kill First." In it, Bergman revealed that the FLLF WAS indeed a creation of Israel. The Palestinians had been right all along. Bergman writes that the bombings that took place in Sept and Oct 1981 were ordered by Ariel Sharon in order to provoke the PLO into resorting to "terrorism," which would have given Israel an excuse to invade Lebanon in the name of fighting... "terrorism". In 1980, the then US Ambassador to Lebanon John Dean was targeted for assassination in an attempt he always insisted was carried out by Israeli intelligence services. The FLLF claimed the attack.
The FLLF's bombing campaign had started in late 1979, but it reached new destructive levels in September and October 1981 under the direct leadership of Defense Minister Ariel Sharon, who would later oversee the Sabra and Shatila massacres in 1982, and go on to be elected as Israeli Prime Minister.
The FLLF conducted scores of attacks in public places, killing hundreds of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians. The Rand Corporation noted 49 FLLF terrorist attacks in 1980 and 1981 alone, killing hundreds of civilians.
In the early 1980s Palestinians increasingly came to be seen as epitome of the "evil terrorists," while Israel was increasingly viewed as the main victim of "terrorism" around the world.
The Rand Corporation's analysis in 1983 concluded Palestinian terrorists killed 16 people in 1980 and 1981.
