A list of puns related to "Laurence Olivier"
I saw it as a child and thought it was awesome and have subsequently re watched it as an adult and it is far and away the best depiction of the meeieval period as far as i'm concerned. excellent artistic direction, brilliant armour, great shakespearian dialogue and unbeatable theatrical acting.
A very memorable film based off a 1970 play.
I went into it not knowing nothing other than its main cast, and that it was a good film.
On the surface, it is a dialogue-driven character drama between a highly-successful and wealthy crime novelist Andrew Wyke (Olivier) whose soon-to-be ex-wife Marguerite is whom Milo Tindle (Caine), a struggling hair salon owner, wants to marry. Wyke has invited Tindle to his estate for a supposedly friendly chat to discuss his wife, and as the plot develops, an invitation to Tindle from Wyke to steal his wife's jewelry in return for the insurance payout. Things develop from there, and it puts Wyke's literary knowledge about crime and policework to the test when real life crimes are committed. The entirety of the film takes place over 48 hours at Wyke's estate starting with Tindle's arrival.
The downsides to the film are that it starts to slow down in the second hour >!after Wyke shoots Tindle.!<
Also, the fact that >!Inspector Doppler was Milo in disguise was easily given away by Caine's cockney accent occasionally slipping through his fake affected accent he uses for Inspector Doppler. If I hadn't noticed this, the twist would have been much more enjoyable. I still held out hope that this was not the twist because I wasn't 100% sure of it.!<
All in all, would recommend this film highly. The less you know going into it, the better.
