Laura Lee was morally impenetrable because of her faith.... and she was guiding Lottie towards the positive realm.

I think Laura Lee is an interesting character, she is so confident in her faith and it makes her strong. She isn't susceptible whatsover, and she knows forces of the occult are not to be trifled with. When Lottie is freaking out at the end of the Seance, the Bilbe hitting is the only thing that snaps her out of it. Does the Christian faith work against whatever evil, pagan, witch-craft, ancient curses lurk in the cabin/woods? Before Laura died she had baptized Lottie, and was giving her lots of spiritual guidance. When Laura dies Lottie seems "give in" more to the frequencies buzzing around her. I think Laura knew she was special, she even tells her. She knows Lottie's dreams have meaning too. After Laura dies is when Lottie really starts to descend (the mushrooms push everyone, though - except Nat and Jackie, but Jackie didn't take them). Do you think Laura protected Lottie in that way?...and that Lottie wanted someone who had experience in these areas?

Laura Lee: missed opportunity?

Like she’s supposed to be this stereotypical Christian goody two shoes. But I can also see her as someone who dots Is and crosses Ts.

Like showing her going through the plane, inspecting the wings, controls, elevators, landing gear or showing how she understands the mechanics of flight. She doesn’t seem to be a person to half-ass something like that.

Like Misty has gumption and know-how, it seems like Laura Lee is someone who might have hidden depths and talents in a survival situation.

It seems like kind of a waste to kill her off this early in the story

Laura Lee Appreciation Thread

I adore this show, but can't say I agree with the decision to kill her off. She was my favorite supporting character, and I felt sure she had the stuff to make for a fascinating long term character arc. I wanted to see her survive, and had all kinds of ideas for what adult Laura Lee would look like. Not to mention, the actor Jane Widdop I thought really was a standout. I accept this turn, but not without sadness and disappointment. Here's hoping we might see her yet in flashbacks or visions.

I open the floor now to all things Laura Lee. Cheese and rice, she was one of a kind.

I dont think Laura Lee will help Lottie at all

So I've seeing a lot of post on Twitter w people really happy about the Lottie/Laura Lee interaction (a lot of people on twitter ship them, idk where that came from but honestly I get it haha) but I just got the vibe that this will make Lottie spiral even more. I get that at the moment it brings Lottie a lot of comfort but I dont think its good nor wise to say to a person with a mental health issue that they're gifted. They're not. They're sick (sorry if this is bad wording, english isnt my first language and idk other way to say it, but u know what i mean hahahah) and the poor girl is struggling, she doesnt know whats real and whats not, she cant sleep well at night and she literally hit her head against a window (so even if she has some weird super-natural gift, is a fucked up one that shouldnt be praised). I agree it was not cool of Tai to call her crazy, but she may become dangerous (not only to others but also to herself) if Laura Lee keeps encouraging her to believe her visions are true. Im thinking this may be what starts all the weird ritualistic antler queen drama.

Lottie is scared and confused and though her scenes w Laura Lee are super cute, she isnt really helping her long-term, i believe.

And the other girls on the team shouldve noticed by now that somethings not right w her and shouldve tried to help her. It breaks my heart seeing how alone she is in all of this. I will not be surprised if lottie starts taking everything laura lee says at heart, being that shes the only ones that seems to care at least a little bit. I just want to protect lottie at all costs πŸ₯Ί

Laura Lee’s Fate - Foreshadowed in Episode 6?

So, operating on the belief that Lottie maybe somewhat psychic, does anybody else think that the fire and bright light she saw in the sky is the Cessna exploding in the air when Laura Lee tries to fly it? Hence why she also ended up silhouetted by it. I know some people subscribe to the idea that’s she’s just mentally ill, but she’s got a lot right. I actually think it’s an element of both. She has genuine visions but she’ll eventually confuse simply innocuous dreams with visions and go mentally off the rails, unable to discern which is which and making bad choices. Which itself will be exacerbated by Laura Lee’s death β€” since she was somewhat of an anchor at the moment.

Laura Lee rant

i’m sorry but episode 8 was my least favourite so far. i genuinely thought we were gonna get a compelling spotlight placed on laura lee’s character. she is my favourite supporting character just based on the fact that usually portrayals of the β€œbible thumper” trope are usually unlikable. jane widdop is really credited for doing such amazing job with laura lee’s character.

my issue is how everything went down. we have an opening scene of her diving, which makes you think, β€œomg laura lee episode lets go,” but nothing happens of significance that leads us to the final scene. leonard catching on fire made literally no sense other than if the show brings in supernatural elements okay then i’ll believe it. but i feel like writers used laura lee as a martyr because of her faith and what she believes. i’m aware that laura lee is the moral compass of the show and if she was there probably wouldn’t be a cult. im just miffed over the wasted potential here

Laura Lee & "Back to the Future"

In "Back to the Future," once the car hits 88mph, it appears to explode and disappear. But as we know from the movies, the car and its drivers are fine, just--displaced in time. Laura Lee's reference to this seems like it wasn't an accident. My theory is that she survived somehow (she def. seems peaceful after the bear starts beeping--maybe she was steeling herself for a jump?), and spent her time in the woods observing the others as they descend into madness.

I'm tying this together with the Bianca-is-Laura-Lee theory, of course.

EDIT: Forgot the other part of this theory--the episode started with Laura Lee being saved from a very similar situation (ambitious jump over water cut short). It seems like that was also setting stuff up for her to be saved again--though the second time might not be as much of a "come to jesus" moment.

Proposal: Laura Lee is the one to go the furthest off the deep end

Thematically, it just makes perfect sense. They build her up in the first episode as a perfect little Christian girl who gives thanks to the lord before a scrimmage and insists on inserting her Christian beliefs into anything even when it’s inappropriate (when she tells everyone how they’re beautiful in the eyes of the lord during the party when she’s supposed to be saying something nice about them).

It would make sense for a character that is so rigid to be the one who embraces the β€œcollapse of civilization” so perfectly. When she starts realizing things like thinking the word cunt is not actually going to send her to hell and there’s no repercussions for her actions, she is more likely to fully embrace the new life she sees herself as having been gifted. I doubt she’d feel like she could return to society after that too.

I think Laura Lee will be the first β€œvictim”

So the general theory is that Laura Lee will try to fly the plane and die trying, crashing into the cabin or otherwise exploding. I think her religiousness has been a hint towards her being the first victim to cannibalism. In the Bible Jesus gives his disciples his β€œflesh” and β€œblood” which could hint towards the team being β€œsaved” from starvation in the form of cannibalizing her remains

Ok I am legit confused. I thought the plane caught on fire (due to mechanical issues after sitting in the forest for so long and a squirrel probably like chewed on some wires), which ultimately caught Laura Lee’s bear on fire during her flight. theory: laura lee’s death is the tipping point of insanity

this is my theory on how laura lee’s possible death may impact the way the girls live. i apologize if it seems wordy and doesn’t make any sense, i’m just trying to get my point across.

as we know, episode eight is called flight of the bumblebee. one of my friends has a theory (that may seem plausible) that laura lee is going to die because she is going to attempt to fly the plane that they had found in episode five. this theory sits strong because in episode six, we see her reading the planes flight manual.

anyways, we know that laura lee is a devout christian. she knows the bible better than anyone else in her group. so how is her death the tipping point of insanity?

my theory is this: as we know in episode six, saints, lottie has a vision. they are in the attic of the cabin they had found, performing a sΓ©ance, a ritual used to communicate with the spirits of the dead. during the sΓ©ance, lottie speaks as if she is not there, it’s like she is possessed. however, when laura lee threw the bible at her, she snapped out of it, like whatever had possessed her realized β€œoh shit, we have a holy presence in this room, i need to get the fuck out of it before something happens to me.”

in eye of the bumblebee, laura lee flies the plane, loses control, and crashes, dying in the process. because of this, it’s like the girl had lost their protective barrier, the barrier that is keeping the spirit that possessed lottie away. laura lee is the barrier that is keeping the spirits away from the girls. with her gone, it’s opening a gate, allowing the spirits to take possession of one of the vital members in their group (lottie) and make her do their bidding.
