Watching “The Offspring” and it’s interesting Data gives Lal the option to choose her gender.

I know Star Trek was always progressive but this nod to the trans community was really ahead of it’s time.

Edit -

Data: “I decided to allow my child to choose its own sex and appearance.”

This was 1990, I don’t think any other mainstream television series would have had a parent say something like that.

I think it’s commendable and it seems a shame to downplay it. I’m not trans myself, I’m not “the younger generation” (I’m 38), I’m not interested in or influenced by identity/gender politics. I just thought it was cool Star Trek did that.

Can we talk about the LAL Season we are just finishing?

Let’s just review a few things that I think have jaded us all.

Stan & Jasmine Portella - After leading us on during Life After Lockup, and with the possibility of these two really playing cat and mouse in a sick but entertaining way, the whole thing just died on the vine. Lisa blew up Jasmine Portella just as she was getting it going and let’s face it: Stan’s thicc thighs, women’s thongs, comb over and Samuel along with his Jekyll & Hyde personality left us wanting more. They blew it here. It was a goldmine!

Britt and Marc - They may be Sharpies faves but for viewers, if we have to have fake, we want fake so bad its good. Sober House - dead on arrival. $8K - dead on arrival. Britt & her dad - dead on arrival. Now back to where it started - footsies with Amanda. Yawn. Retire this shit.

Lacey/Chane/Chon - Words, words, words, Chon sheets get him arrested. Words, words, words, Chane sheets get him arrested. Words, words, words, leaving Chon. Words, words, words, leaving Chane. Violence, drama, bs IG posts by all. Stick a fork in it, it’s done.

Bratney and Ray - Lies, lies, baby making, engagement, wedding, baby making, lies, lies, restitution, baby making, engagement, wedding, baby making, lies. Wigs. I think that covers it.

John and Kristianna - Sadness. Tragedy. And an endless font of money for John that makes no sense. A wedding. And eyebrows that quite literally dominated the thread. No offense to Kristianna but we are looking to escape our problems here. This was just depressing.

Amber & Puppy - Emotionally and mentally manipulative relationships with men. A warrant. A horrible slide into addiction and more parental illness. If Amber would just come out already….

Shawn & Sarah - Lying and stupidity. On both sides. That is all.

Tia/Nicolle/Deontae - The only story line (esp. Tia & Nicolle) worth watching except for Stan & Lisa. These two were tragedy and comedy. Deontae was just a mechanism to move the story forward. It’s like a great movie with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis going at it and they threw Jerry Lewis in for some reason. Maybe he just needed the money. And now they are bringing him back with an even more disturbed Francis Farmer. There is something oddly compelling about Tia & Nicolle. I cannot look away.

When people feel compelled to fast forward through most of the storyline, I think we need to ditch the dead wood not bring back idiots from yesteryear.

Or give us new trash to love!
