Did you know there is a hot spring (lol warm) within Lake Mead? It might look a little different the next time you visit.. the California Fan Palm that lines its banks is one of the Top 10 Invasive Species in the park and is in the process of being removed.

edit: if you want to read about what lake mead is doing to the palms, you can read one of their old documents here: http://clearinghouse.nv.gov/public/Notice/2011/E2011-082.pdf

https://preview.redd.it/p6euw2ki8h371.png?width=643&format=png&auto=webp&s=262206140fa395c2f3cf5c57aab355a05eb91a1a

Rogers Spring is one of the hot springs located within Lake Mead area shortly before Stewarts Point. You will notice as you drive up Northshore that there are a bunch of really large palm trees off to the side. The palm trees made Rogers Spring look like a little tropical oasis (with a little brain eating amoeba). I went a few weekends ago and the palm trees have all died, and are laying in the middle of the springs.

https://preview.redd.it/wa0int1jx9371.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12e147d3adae94815c492198e5db21d7284af697

Upon further research, I discovered that the palms that are growing here are considered an invasive species (they're on Lake Meads Top 10 Invasive Species list), so it's likely the park service has poisoned them for eradication. The reasoning is probably because they are using water from the springs that can be used for other plants and animals. I'm not mad at the decision, I just hope they finish the job because it looks really bad in its current state.

https://preview.redd.it/pmu8sfekx9371.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3982ca8f4a63bf74681895c0408ca7aa368492b

Other than that, it was a really beautiful hidden gem inside of Lake Mead. You could bring a lunch there and eat at the picnic tables and use the grills. There are different species of fish inside of the water (mostly small) but please do not dump any tropical fish here. Just because someone else did it before doesn't mean you have to participate as well. The water is around 80 degrees, but be careful of the amoeba .. don't dunk your head or drink the water.

and now for the history of the place because the park service can explain it better than I can..

From the NPS: Rogers Spring and Blue Point Spring both share a colorful history. One story involves a 1903 project to build a canal to divert water from both springs to 500 acres of farmland located several miles south of St. Thomas. During this effort, several industrious men used a horse team, scraper, homemade ditcher and shovels to construct a channel to connect both springs. They tested the ch

Foreign tenant at our address suddenly took out large loans and credit lines from a dozen banks and left the US - anything we need to do to protect ourselves?

We rent an inlaw suite at our address in Massachusetts. Our tenant drove a 2012 prius. In the space of four or five weeks, based on letters in his name and his DBA company name, our foreign tenant opened accounts/loans/credit cards with over a dozen banks, purchased an expensive car with a CC down payment, sold it to his friend, and then abruptly left the country halfway through July. He said he was "out of town", but he left July 6 and never returned. He texted that his friends would come by to ship his boxes, which they did. The boxes were addressed out of the country. They opened and read his mail and left it on the counter. There were nine contractor trash bags worth of low-value personal possessions. By text he told us to throw out the rest of his mail. In the few letters we saw he was clearly taking out big loans and kiting checks to CC companies. He also took out a PPP loan for $26K and we are not aware he had any kind of business with employees.

Should I just leave this to the banks to figure out or should we take some action to protect our address? My understanding is that these banks will never see their money. I have a stack of dozens of unopened letters we are saving and they have kept coming.

Thanks in advance.
