Ever since the betrayal of the Tokugawa, the Emperor has resided in Kyoto. The Imperial Palace has been an everlasting presence in the Emperorยดs life. Nonetheless, that is not to say it has been troubled. With the eruption of the conflict and the need for the acquisition of weaponry, the maintenance of the palace has been to be desired, including a small scale fire that has destroyed a section of the palace.
But now, with the Shogun almost at deathยดs door, work can begin towards restoring the glory of the Emperorยดs residence, and the future seat of power of the future Japanese state.
With foreign ideas also coming into the mix, we can also input some new ideas into the renovation into the palace, increasing security for the emperor and the royal family.
Parts of the palace to be renovated and modernized are:
Shishinden (็ดซๅฎธๆฎฟ, Hall for State Ceremonies)
Seiryลden (ๆธ ๆถผๆฎฟ, Emperor's Habitual Residence), Kogosho (ๅฐๅพกๆ, Court Room), Ogakumonjo (ๅพกๅญฆๅๆ, Imperial Study or Library): Employ better methods to preserve current manuscripts, and prevent any other incidents that may affect the library.
Takamikura: The Imperial Throne. Further security measures and more ornate elements are to be adopted.
Kogosho (ๅฐๅพกๆ): The place where the Emperor received the Tokugawa. With the Tokugawa having turned traitorous towards the emperor, the room must be reused and remodelled to erase any aspects of the Tokugawa. In the future, will be used by the Emperor to meet with the future provincial governors.
Gates: Entraces to the palace. Modernized to allow the use of modern-day firearms and artillery.

New buildings to be constructed:
Koshun (่ฟๆฅ): A study hall to be used by the Emperor in his studies of new works and new ideas useful to Japan.
Imperial Guard Residence: Building housing the most honorable and loyal soldiers to the Emperor, forming the Imperial Royal Guard of Japan, protecting the palace and the Emperor from those who wish to do harm. They will be trained to perfection so that no soldier can defeat him. Will also include a wing for shinobi, who will give information on the Emperor on any of his enemies.
Imperial Foreign Residence: Residence housing any worthwhile foreign dignitaries, who may have worthwhile business with the Emperor. To be heavily guarded by the Imperial Guard and isolated as much as possible, so as to prevent any possibility of harm to the Emperor.
