Folks:

I come to you asking for help. I am planning an updated video about the history of our former TV station, KVOS TV. I am hoping to include an animated walkthrough/flythrough (thanks to Blender, a great open source animation and modeling software) of the KVOS TV studios.

Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find any decent photos of what was inside that building near the intersection of Ellis Street and Champion Street in what I think is the edge of the York Neighborhood.

This video (a bit log, but you are welcome to skip around in it), details some of the questions that I have as well as some examples of what I have already done for animation with Blender.

I beg of you to please, especially, if you have ever been inside that building at 1151 Ellis Street, when it was the KVOS studio building. Right now, it is a medical facility and because of COVID and HIPPA, I am not allowed to go in and wander around.

Folks, I was able to do a full virtualization of the first floor of the former KVOS TV studio building on Ellis Street. If any of you used to work there, or even just set foot in that building as a guest, I would be curious as what you think of my take of that the building was like. This tour only includes the first floor at this time, I will be starting on the 2nd floor next.

Have any of you ever been inside the KVOS TV Studios when KVOS was still in Bellingham?

I am working on a video project for the history of KVOS and why they left our town.

Part of this project is to create a virtual walking tour of the building using animation and modeling.

If you have ever been inside the building on Ellis Street, I would be curious at what you think of my attempts to guess what things were like.

I only have an old blueprint and my background in engineering and my colorful imagination to come up with my idea of what the place was like.

Folks:

I am reaching out to you with a question that I have about KVOS TV here in Bellingham.

As most of you know, I did a video about the Chesnut bicycle lane and the demise of KVOS TV.

I recently got some very stern pushback from private messages here on Reddit as well as in-person here in Bellingham, including someone who used to work at KVOS TV.

Apparently everyone reacted to the statement in the KVOS TV Wikipedia page stating to the effect that the Seattle cable companies were ordered by the FCC to remove KVOS TV from their offerings. It also mentioned that the Canadian equivalent of the FCC ordered their cable companies to remove KVOS.

I can fully understand why the Canadians want KVOS TV removed from their cable offerings, especially after more Canadian TV stations came on line and made the same offerings as KVOS.

I cannot fathom why our own FCC would order Seattle (an American city) to remove KVOS TV (a TV station in Bellingham, also an American city) from their cable systems.

I looked carefully at Wikipedia and noted that the statement is not sourced. I put up a challenge in their discussion pages about the statement and told them if I hear nothing back, I will remove that statement from the KVOS TV article.

What I need from you folks is whether anyone of you know that it is a fact that the FCC forced KVOS TV's signal off of Seattle or other U.S. cable systems?

I am cross posting this in reddit/broadcasting as well as making in-person inquiries here in town.

Folks:

It appears that I have made my video on the Chestnut bicycle lane too soon. The new bike lane was not yet finished when I made my previous video. So, I plan to make another one to replace it.

I also plan to update the section on the loss of KVOS TV; there seemed some errors as to what happened when in the loss of KVOS as a local resource to Bellingham.

Before I start shooting new video footage, I would like to solicit comments on my current video and how you all feel I can improve it.

I want to also include why some don't like the bicycle lanes and why others like it. I want to be objective as much as possible. I also want to know if anyone was very sad with the loss of KVOS leaving town and and anyone who think 'good riddence to KVOS'.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Hi guys!

A year ago I decided to pick up Japanese. I read a few progress posts and I found them very helpful. I have been waiting for my turn to share my 1 year progress and my goals going forward. I will try to not make this too wordy (oops) and I will try to give an idea of what I did. I will also give some tips that helped me and my thoughts as I transition to a “life-long learner”. This is meant for myself as a way to look back on my own progress, but I do love reading the 1 year progress updates from other users here. I am technically under the 1 year mark, but I do know I started the process sometime mid/late August 2020, so eh…. Close enough!

Background

I am in my mid/late 20s. I have zero second language experience outside the mandatory class or 2 of French from decades ago. Basically I only speak English.

I am from a competitive sports background. With Covid there was nothing to do. I also have quite a bit of dead time at work so I decided to pick up Japanese to fill the void. I didn’t think too hard about it. I grew up watching anime and it just made sense to me. Also, my other hobby can be expensive and time intensive. I wanted time intensive, not expensive! I also wanted something challenging that made me think.

I have no intent to get a JLTP Nx, although I might get an N2 or N1 at some point for the #resumepadding. But I don’t really care about the JLPT and I do not intend to work in Japan unless I find some sort of unicorn job where I get lots of free time and a decent paycheque.

Goals

I wanted to read. At the start I would have been happy to eventually read some manga and light novels. Speaking was not important to me. Listening was something I would work on secondary via stuff like TV but my goal was primarily reading. I had very little expectation, but I knew I would like to get as far as I could in 6 months and reassess at that point. So I committed to a 6 month timeline and if I wanted to drop it at 6 months I could.

My language goal: Reach a point where I can learn by consuming stuff without “studying” per-se. If I could make this a life-long skill/process that was ideal. That’s how I do most of my other hobbies: upfront time sink is high and as you get better the fun/enjoyment is life long (also time commitment starts becoming lower). Also I value skills above anything else. No one can take that away from you.

As a funny aside, I hated reading English literature. School (particularly English class) killed it for me

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
