Now I know this must have been asked numerous times (and I'm sorry), but just curious to know if anyone has had any updates or ways around it or have figured it out.

So we all know about the PayPal restrictions coming to Thailand.

Now my question:

IF I use a friends Australian PayPal account and need them to transfer from PayPal Australia, which would be the best and easiest method, and cheapest/cheaper.

I would like to have it transferred into my Thai bank account.

(I don't want them to have to transfer from their PayPal to their bank (3-7days wait time), to my bank, which would take more time (3 to 7days) and which would incur a ridiculous international transfer fee)

From searching I can't seem to find how to transfer from PayPal to wise, Payoneer or other and then into my Thai account.... 😓😓

Prefer no crypto Coins exchange suggestions... It's too volatile for my transactions and involves too many variables. As an investment sure, but not the answer I'm looking for.

Any help and instructions would be greatly appreciated and I would like to thank you all in advance ☺️☺️

The Thai embassy in Europe/Belgium changed the financial requirements for the Non-immigrant visa O-A (Long stay)

The new numbers are:

• An original attestation (scanned/electronic version is not accepted) from the bank with at least 1,000,000 baht or equivalent to 27,000 € (bank in Thailand or in Belgium) + 1 copy, + 2 copies of the bank statements from the last 6 months of this bank account

• OR An attestation (original version) which mentions that you receive at least 2,7000 € (two-thousand-seven-hundred euros) per month as well as bank statements of the last 6 months which prove that you receive that amount. The communication on the bank statement must indicate that concerning monthly pension.

These income figures are enormous.

There is already a very emotional discussion in the Belgian/Dutch/French community.

First: nobody can believe these numbers are correct. If you check the website, it's written 2,7000 and not 2,700.

Contra argument: The number written in the text doesn't give a discussion: two-thousand-seven-hundred euros.

Secondly: until today, it's only on the website from Brussels, Belgium.

Contra argument: That is no problem. Every embassy can ask extra. Brussel is the capital of Europe; maybe this is a test case.

From the French community in Pattaya:

The French group "Pattaya Ensemble" has confirmed that Immigration Jomtien knows these numbers. But it will be only for new Visa O-A, not for extensions.

Does somebody else know about these new income requirements?

I'm mesmerized by the full name of Bangkok, but as a beginner in Thai I'm finding it impossible to find any careful and non-handwaving walk-through of the name, the etymology of its constituents and how to interpret it. The best I can find is Wiktionary:

Problems start already with อมร, which is (1) either grouped with มหา นคร , yielding "great city of immortals", or (2) put at the beginning of รัตน โกสินทร์. This second option according to Wiktionary interprets as either (2i) an adverb, "the gem of Kosindra [resides] in perpetuity", or (2ii) as an adjective to รัตน, "[where the] immortal gem of Kosindra [is]". There is also hinted the possibility that (3) อมร stands alone. I'm at a loss as to how to weigh the plausibility of these interpretations (1)-(3) against each other. There is of course also the possibility that it is intendedly poly-semantic, in a way poetic language often is. Still, I'd like to know whether Thai grammar, word order etc. favours one or the other.

For มหินทรา ยุธยา I don't even really know how to parse the words and their archaic forms, and there are no further Wiktionary-links to follow. No idea why the interpretation of มหินทรา is either "great Indra" or "great ruler".

Naturally, there are more such questions for the rest of the name.

If you know some solid source, or is a wise Thai etymologist, pitch in!

I am American. my wife and i will eventually move to the US and I would like to start investing money we have in Thailand in a S&P 500 Index fund. monthly auto direct withdrawal preferred. any advice?

Other than using them to pay utility bills, I’ve pretty much been ignoring the financial services offered by 7-Elevens in Thailand.

However, I recently learned that I can withdraw cash from my bank account at a 7-Eleven counter in the same way that I would from an ATM.

I’m wondering if the same is also possible for deposits. Could I hand the 7-11 cashier a bank account number (of myself or someone else) along with some cash and then get that amount deposited to a Thai bank account?

I’d be interested to hear your own experiences, and also to know of any other financial magic that can be performed while buying a Slurpee. Thanks.

I've been using Bangkok Bank for years and I'm getting really annoyed by the lack of detail on their bank statement.

For example, I had an online merchant charge me twice on 2 different day with a different amount. Trying to understand the source of an unexpected charge is really difficult and even their phone support don't have more information. I have to ask them to start an investigation to know the source of the withdrawal and it takes a month.

Is there any bank that has detailed statement that state where the payments are going to?
