A list of puns related to "Kokers Films"
For example βAnd Life Goes Onβ is βLife, and Nothing Moreβ on Letterboxd. Is it just different translations or is one a mistake? Thank you
I'm a huge Kiarostami fan but haven't seen anything from the Koker Trilogy. For reference, Like Someone in Love is my favorite of his (and fav of all time). I haven't seen anything from KieΕlowski but am pretty interested in this trilogy. Thoughts?
Abbas Kiarostami is a plain genius isn't he? I got introduced to his work with the Taste of Cherry and honestly it was like watching a poetry, you feel like you understand more than you actually do and that ending! I knew I had to watch more films made by him and thought I would go start off with the Koker trilogy. And again, Where is the friend's home was such a simple concept but the way he structures it, the movie carries an 'aim' throughout it, keeping us engaged while maintaining the innocence of the concept its based on.
The simplicity lies in how it feels like the movie needs nothing flashy, no big actors to support it. It makes you feel like you could direct and make something if you tried, and I know it's not that simple but he makes it look so. Cinema in its purest form, really.
Now that I am done with looking all professional with my attempt at analysing Abbas Kiarostami's work and if people are still reading this π There is one thing that has occupied my mind after watching Where is the friend's home : near the end, when Ahmed finally gets a location for his friend's home, why doesn't he just return the notebook then. I mean what do you think a boy of that age thinks at that point. I looked for conclusive explanations but didn't find any, really. So I thought I should come here.
Hi everyone :)
Kiarostami is a major 'arthouse' director I still have to get acquainted with, so I've been trying to determine which movie of his to watch first. I'm trying to decide between 'Taste of Cherry' and 'Like Someone In Love,' do you think those are good options? Should I pick something else?
A bit of background on my decision-making process: I tried watching "Close-Up" some years ago, but I found it a bit boring and gave up. I wasn't much into movies at the time, so I might appreciate it more now, but I think I'd prefer to start my Kiarostami journey with something different.
"Taste of Cherry" seems to be one of his most celebrated movies, but I've also read that it's a bit too complex and should only be watched after some of his other movies, to better understand its themes.
I don't know much about "Like Someone In Love" but I've seen some screenshots that were really pretty (cinematography is something I do value a lot in movies and that, from what I remember, I found a bit lacking in "Close-Up"). It's also available on YouTube which just makes it easier for me to watch. Is it a good introduction to his general work? Can it be appreciated on its own, or should I watch something else by him first?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Thought I would finally make a post here given I'm in the mood for some brief writing and I just re-watched the first two films of my *favourite trilogy. γ €
Jean Cocteau, one of my favourite director's, was a French poet, novelist, designer, playwright and β in 1930, with the debut of his first film, The Blood of a Poet β he became one of the foremost influential surrealist directors. The Blood of a Poet was different in the way it used filmmaking techniques like editing, special effects and design, but it was also some of the most early works that talked about more "taboo" subjects (taboo for the times, at least) like homosexuality, the afterlife and suicidal thoughts. Cocteau used film as a way to express himself through a visual medium in a way that he couldn't with poetry or even stage plays.
Finally, 20 years and four films later, Cocteau came out with his sequel β Orpheus. Unlike The Blood of a Poet, though, Orpheus flaunted his skills in narrative filmmaking. Here we get much more of his classic poetic dialogue that we hear in most of his films. Still, to say that Cocteau gave up on his visual style and unique surrealism would be a far stretch. Orpheus has some of his best visual effects on show with some amazing mirror shots. Here, we also get to see him play with continuity and the use of repeating and reversing shots to give them a hidden meaning. If I were to describe Orpheus without spoiling it, I'd probably describe it as a Bergman film (think The Seventh Seal and Through a Glass Darkly) with the cinematography and lighting of The Night of the Hunter.
Lastly, we have Testament of Orpheus. While this is my current favourite of the trilogy (though, my re-watch of Orpheus is making me rethink that), I haven't watched in awhile, so my memory of it isn't exactly fresh. Nevertheless, Testament of Orpheus still has some of my favourite shots of the trilogy and plays with metafiction and poetry (both visual and written) in a way neither of the previous films do.
I really do recommend checking out these films (if you don't love surrealist filmmaking, I'd recommend watching Orpheus first to see how you like it since The Blood of a Poet is the least narrative focused by a mile. If you do this and end up liking Orpheus, I recommend toughing i
... keep reading on reddit β‘I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

It really does, I swear!
I'm an amateur film lover, as I'm sure many of the folks in /r/movies are. I will be the first to also admit that I was also one of the lucky ones last year to have 'boredom' as one of my biggest problems, and so to everyone reading this I hope you have a far better 2021.
Watching lots of movies isn't necessarily something new to me, especially in such a vast quantity, I watched a lot in 2019 as well and it's something that works for me. I know some people say they don't like watching so many in quick succession for various reasons, and that's cool, just know that this works for me and I like to think I have a fairly good memory of almost everything I've watched (certainly all of the ones that I've enjoyed). And I can safely say I don't feel burnout coming on either...at least not yet, fingers crossed.
I also feel we're incredibly lucky to live in the era that we live in, watching films has never been easier than it has now, there's so many ways, both legal and illegal. Just this year alone, we've had four major classics receive Blu-rays for the first time ever, Satantango, Los Olvidados, Roman Holiday and Beau Travail. I can't even begin to imagine how frustrating it must have been to be an amateur movie lover in previous decades without the conveniences we have today and without access to the benefits of being in film industry circles.
As a result, it becomes a case of, the more you watch, the more great movies you realise are out there and the 'never-ending watchlist syndrome' becomes a real thing. But I take that as a positive knowing that this isn't some tick-box exercise and that watching movies is a life-long journey. After all, we all watch movies for different reasons, sometimes to laugh, to kill time, to make us better people, for catharsis and various other purposes.
To keep this relatively short for the main post (I can detail further in the comments if anyone's interested) I'll post my top 5 (in no particular order) for each calendar month of 2020, varying from popular favourites to ones I feel like deserve way more attention in the general conversation.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
I won't be doing that today!
