A list of puns related to "Kingdom Of Uí Failghe"
> Out of every corner of the wood and glens they came creeping forth upon their hands, for their legs could not bear them
> They looked Anatomies of death, they spoke like ghosts, crying out of their graves
> They did eat of the carrions, happy where they could find them, yea, and one another soon after, in so much as the very carcasses they spared not to scrape out of their graves
> And if they found a plot of water-cresses or shamrocks, there they flocked as to a feast for the time, yet not able long to continue therewithal
> That in a short space there were none almost left, and a most populous and plentiful country suddenly left void of man or beast. - Edmund Spencer
During the Pale War, the English lost very early into their own invasion and were repelled. In many ways, this was surely due to tactical errors on the side of the English and tactical genius on the side of the Irish, but in the end, most of it was sheer luck.
Soon, the English knew they would lose. They retreated to captured dún after captured dún, but the Irish always managed to press them further back. The Queen was embroiled in many wars at the time, and she had promised Westminster to never surrender, but more and more it seemed like the army of Sir Skeffington and Viscount Wolseley had no other option. When they were holed up in the dún of Uí Failghe, they were so mad at their own lack of success that they gave orders to make the Irish just as mad.
When the English soldiers marched into the villages and poisoned their wells, many of the villagers started to throw rocks at them. When the English soldiers torched their fields, their farm houses and their granaries, they started to fear that the Antichrist had come, and it was a woman, the supposed Queen of Ireland. Soon, the lands of Uí Failghe were burnt, and many peasants had to leave the smoldering remains of their farms behind to find shelter in other countries. If they stayed, come winter they would starve.
The Rí of Connacht, after the last battle, had send out bards to all of Ireland, and some even reached the court of the King of Scotland. They told of the ruthlessness of the English, their disregard for the Irish and the heroism of the nobles and gallowglasses, Scottish mercenaries, who died in Ármhach. They also accuse the English of leaving behind destruction wherever they go. When the messengers arrived from Uí Failghe to tell of the news there, every noble hearing them stood in

It all began in the year of our lord 769, with the rather craven Chief Congalach of Meath. His reign lasted a grand four more years before giving up the ghost at age 63. His son Flann mac Congalach succeeded him in a grand. Flann knew he possessed a great education and was widely regarded as a brilliant strategist. He also knew he had the blood of High King Niall 'of the Nine Hostages.' He then made it his goal to unite Ireland under his high kingship. He controlled the whole of the island before passing on in the year 812. His grandson Domnall succeeded him but was viewed as a tyrant. Domnall wanted absolute control and soon revoked all his vassals' titles. He then expanded his realm in the most immoral of ways. Domnall was a man of many heresies, seeming to follow whichever variation of religion would grant him the most opportunities for conquest. Countless holy wars later, Domnall passed on and with him, all hopes for the Catholics of Europe. Niall soon became the new Petty King of Meath but desired a new realm name. Niall became enamored by the work and commitment shown by the people of the Isle of Mhannin. Soon the new Kingdom of Mhannin was formed. Ireland and Wales were no more, being reduced to mere titular titles which Niall I flaunted as his trophies of conquest. That conquest soo encompassed all of West Francia which he renamed to West Mhannia as a clear insult to the Karlings whose blood he ironically now possessed. After securing Aquitaine, now called the Sudetenlan, Niall I created the Imperium of Mhannin. Before dying, Niall embraced the faith of the Norse people. Niall II inherited the throne as well as a greatly weakened Denmark from his father. He soon subjugated the Danes. Perhaps it was part of his appearance. For although Niall II was undoubtedly Irish, it was often remarked in the court that he looked more like an Anglo-Saxon than that of an Irishman. After taking Denmark, Niall saw that it was a time for a reformation of the rather unorganized Germanic faith. In his pride, he saw no issues with naming himself and his descendants to be among the Pantheon of Norse gods. Fylkir Niall II died soon after a successful Great Holy War for Middle Francia, which he referred to as Lotharingia. Fylkir Niall III soon wore the great Fylkir Crown for house Uí Néill Noígíallach his expeditions included the liberatio

[Fair warning: this is really long and still barely scratches the surface of a very complicated issue. I am also not an actual Biblical scholar, just someone very interested in this issue, so please forgive me if I misuse terms or what have you.]
In the 1960s, Biblical scholar Morton Smith shocked basically everyone in his field by unveiling a newly discovered letter written by Clement of Alexandria, an early leader of the Church.
This letter discusses and quotes from a previously unknown early Christian text entitled The Secret Gospel of Mark. There are only two quotes. The second one is very short, but the first one is wild.
>And they come into Bethany. And a certain woman whose brother had died was there. And, coming, she prostrated herself before Jesus and says to him, "Son of David, have mercy on me." But the disciples rebuked her. And Jesus, being angered, went off with her into the garden where the tomb was, and straightway a great cry was heard from the tomb. And going near Jesus rolled away the stone from the door of the tomb. And straightway, going in where the youth was, he stretched forth his hand and raised him, seizing his hand.
>
>But the youth, looking upon him, loved him and began to beseech him that he might be with him. And going out of the tomb they came into the house of the youth, for he was rich. And after six days Jesus told him what to do and in the evening the youth comes to him, wearing a linen cloth over his naked body. And he remained with him that night, for Jesus taught him the mystery of the kingdom of God. And thence, arising, he returned to the other side of the Jordan.
If you're a Biblical scholar, there's a lot to unpack there. If you're not a Biblical scholar, you might still be struck by the fact that Jesus apparently spends the night alone in a cave with a young man wearing only a linen cloth over his naked body? To me, and at least at one point to Morton Smith, it kind of sounds like this may suggest a sexual element to this initiation rite?
And what's really key is that this isn't just any previously unknown text. Again, the letter claims that these quotes are from the "Secret Gospel of Mark," a second version of the existing Gospel with extra material, reserved for spiritually advanced readers who were already "initiated into the great mysteries." Supposedly, the Gospel we have today is only a shortened, introductory version meant for general audiences.
If that's true, it would be a

Catchy melodies, massive breakdowns, synths. I can’t ask for more. I’ve never really listened to their previous stuff, but this album is one of the best I’ve ever heard. I’d say Lost Hills and Night Shift are my favorite ones, even though all of them are so amazing, especially Burner.

tl;dr - art bell tape vault on spotify
hey there /r/highstrangeness, dropping in today to share some of my favorite classic art bell broadcasts with you all. for those who were too young in the 90s to remember, art bell was america's beloved voice in the night for many years, especially as the founder of Coast to Coast AM - an overnight paranormal-themed talk show, with fascinating and whacky guests, wild stories, and unscreened open lines that allowed people all around the world to share the things nobody else wanted to take seriously.
since art passed in 2018 the show has apparently changed significantly (and their audio player is painfully bad), so i think its important to keep this stuff alive and accessible - his life left a massive legacy with many memorable and groundbreaking moments, and his show not only connected strangers around the globe, but allowed many great professional and academic minds to connect. without him and Coast to Coast, i don't think places like this sub would be quite as open and as connected as they are, and i don't think we'd have so any researchers and advocates out there today.
as you listen you'll hear plenty of interesting stuff - you'll notice paranormal researchers coming to similar conclusions, you'll hear patterns in people's abduction stories, you'll laugh, maybe you'll even be swayed by some pretty out there ideas - just keep in mind art gave people a place to share, and share they do - sometimes people are delusional, sometimes they had too many budweiser's with the boys in the woods that night, but i think its mind blowing how many people are sincere and believable and have things to share that add legitimate mystery to the world around us.
if you're new to art's stuff: the first 40 minutes or so will usually be the news of the day with a few open lines for callers. after this first segment is when art's guest usually comes in, so while its sometimes funny/awkward to keep up with those mujahideen boys, you can almost always skip the first 40 minutes of these shows if you want without missing too much. also if you've got adhd or just have trouble listening to this slow talk format, try increasing the playback speed around 1.2x - 1.5x
ANYWAYS, without further ado, here are some of my favorites from art:
