Hey, I'm not really an avid pirates fan but I was looking through some numbers for contact % and Kevin Newman really jumped out to me. It looks like he's not getting a lot but I just wanted to say that, as an outsider, I'm really impressed with his ability to make contact. The numbers suggest he's not seeing a lot of pitches at the plate and just not getting good quality of contact but I think that's something he'll be able to fix.
I'm gonna start watching some pirates games just to see more of his ABs. He seems like he has a lot of potential to have a breakout season (either this year or next).
Obviously, it's just spring training, and sample size is pretty small, but it's still pretty fun to watch. The dude is having a monster spring.

Kevin Newman was drafted in the first round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015. He was the first player in Cape Cod League history to win back-to-back batting titles. While attending the University of Arizona, his roommates were Scott Kingery and Bobby Dalbec.
