A list of puns related to "Kettering, Ohio"
Photo of Erica taken shortly before her disappearance
This is a case that is very near to my heart, both because it is close to where I grew up but also because I remember the day she went missing like it was yesterday. For years, when we would go to Kettering Rec for ice skating or other activities, our parents would force us to cling to them like we would get snatched away at any moment and disappear without a trace. Though this case ended up not being a kidnapping, rape, or violent murder case, I remember this case as being a marker in my life where before, adults allowed us more freedom to roam around the neighbor, play after dark, etc. and afterwards, those things were no longer allowed and coming home even a minute past dark sparked panic. Erica Nicole Baker was a 9-year-old third-grader at Indian Riffle Elementary School and stood at 3β11, weighed just 65 pounds, and had blonde hair and hazel eyes. Her ears were pierced and her front teeth were crooked at the time of her disappearance. She also had an oval-shaped, tan-colored birthmark, about the size of a dime, on one of her hips and a scar on the inner arch of one of her feet. She was the youngest of four children and the only girl, and loved animals and babies. She also loved reading, especially fantasy books such as J.R.R. Tolkienβs βThe Hobbitβ, and drawing pictures of her family that her mom proudly displayed on the refrigerator.
Her parents were divorced and her dad, Greg Baker, lived in nearby Huber Heights where she had regular visitations with him. She primarily lived at 3340 Pobst Drive in Kettering, Ohio, with her three brothers; Jason, Gregory and Logan; her mother, Melissa βMistyβ Baker; her aunt, Tara and Taraβs dog, Jamie; her grandmother, Pam Schmidt; and Pamβs husband, Mike. Her home was in a middle class neighborhood, very close to both her school and to a large, state of the art city recreation center known by locals at Kettering Rec. It may be referred to variously throughout this write-up as Kettering Rec, the Kettering Recreation Center, and the KRC.
Erica spent most of Sunday, February 7, 1999 with her father, Greg Baker. Erica was upset that Greg had forgotten to
