A list of puns related to "Keorapetse Kgositsile"
If destroying all the maps known
would erase all the boundaries
from the face of this earth
I would say let us
make a bonfire
to reclaim and sing
the human person
Refugee is an ominous load
even for a child to carry
for some children
words like home
could not carry any possible meaning
but
displaced
border
refugee
must carry dimensions of brutality and terror
past the most hideous nightmare
anyone could experience or imagine
Empty their young eyes
deprived of a vision of any future
they should have been entitled to
since they did not choose to be born
where and when they were
Empty their young bellies
extended and rounded by malnutrition
and growling like the well-fed dogs of some
with pretensions to concerns about human rights
violations
Can you see them now
stumble from nowhere
to no
where
between
nothing
and
nothing
Consider
the premature daily death of their young dreams
what staggering memories frighten and abort
the hope that should have been
an indelible inscription in their young eyes
Perhaps
I should just borrow
the remembererβs voice again
while I can and say:
to have a home is not a favour
deep in your cheeks
your specific laughter owns
all things south of the ghosts
we once were. straight ahead
.
the memory beckons from the future
you and I a tribe of colours
this song that dance
godlike rhythms to birth
footsteps of memory
the very soul aspires to. Songs
.
of origins songs of constant beginnings
what is this thing called
love
Iβm in love with their lyrical prowess, or the way they describe life in their beautiful styles. Iβm sorry if canβt describe it better thatβs why I want to learn more arts similar to these to improve my articulation, enjoy the good reads and even write a bit on my own.
In all honesty I know very little of earlβs father work so Iβm gonna look more into those but maybe there are other poets out there similar that you guys can refer me to. Iβm a huge fan of earl and my two favorite songs of his are quest/power, hat trick, and I love his feature on new faces with Mac Miller and Dash.
Iβve read other poems, but most of them donβt intrigue me and hook me as much as their stuff
Any help or advice is really appreciated. THANKS!
Keorapetse William Kgositsile, also known as "Bra Willie", was confirmed to have passed this morning. He was a poet and political activist, and also also the father to Thebe Kgositsile aka "Earl Sweatshirt".
Very saddened that this happened, and only a few days past New Years. My condolences to the entire Kgositsile family. IF YOU GUYS ARE FAMILIAR WITH ANY OF KEORAPETSE'S WORK FEEL FREE TO SHARE ANYTHING YOU LIKE WITH OTHERS
this morning i was reading a little more about the life of Earl's dad, Keorapetse Kgositsile, and it made me think back to Playing Possum
born in 1938 in apartheid south africa, he was forced into exile in 1961, and wasn't able to return to his home country until 1990. of this return to south africa after 29 years, he's discussing the group of writers and activists he'd been working with for a while who helped him come back:
>Here are my colleagues and hosts. Can you deal with that? Hosts! In my own country... But there are no memories here. The streets of Johannesburg cannot claim me. I cannot claim them either.
part of his poem Anguish Longer Than Sorrow, which Earl interpolates in Playing Possum, says:
>For some children, words like "home" could not have any possible meaning... To have a home is not a favor
now, ostensibly this poem is about child refugees of war torn countries, but i think there's also a connection to his personal experience of his home changing so much during his exile that he felt like a foreigner when he returned.
i think there's an interesting parallel here to Earl's relationship with the OF circle in LA. when he returned home from his exile, he felt like a refugee returning home to a place that had changed radically since he was last there, a place that had essentially moved on without him.
this sentiment is starkly juxtaposed against a speech from Earl's mother, Cheryl, which comprises the other half of Playing Possum. it serves as a mea culpa for her erratic and inconsistent behavior, and as an expression of gratitude for the support network that has allowed her to thrive. the twist here is that Earl is using his mother's own words to talk about his gratitude towards her, something he's gone on to say more explicitly later on (that she was there for him when he felt hung out to dry)
thanks for reading, i'd love to hear what yall think

Hello everyone and welcome to another day of Album of the Year 2018, the daily write-up series where users from /r/hiphopheads talk their favorite albums of the year. Up today, I'm writing about the long-anticipated third studio album from Thebe Kgositsile, the artist professionally known as Earl Sweatshirt, Some Rap Songs.
Artist: Earl Sweatshirt
Album: Some Rap Songs

The Earl Sweatshirt story is well-known and well covered, but in case you donβt know, hereβs the quick recap: Born Thebe Neruda Kgositsile to Cheryl Harris, a law professor at University of California, Los Angeles, and Keorapetse Kgositsile, a South African poet and political activist. Earlβs father left his mother and him when he was 8 years old and returned to his home country. After getting his start in Tyler the Creatorβs Odd Future collective with the release of mixtapes like Earl and features on Tylerβs Bastard and Odd Futureβs Radical, Earlβs mother sent him to Samoa to attend Coral Reef Academy, a therapeutic retreat school for at-risk boys.
While Tyler and his fellow Odd Future members insisted that Earlβs music was what got him sent to Samoa, he himself clarified that his music played a minimum role in his excursion, as getting into various kinds of trouble with his friends was what sent him away. While he was gone though, Odd Future blew up. When he returned to the United States in early 2012, it was safe to say that he received a massive culture shock. It was this culture shock that defined him for a very long time, as his debut album Doris and follow-up I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside heavily dealt with his sudden rise to fame at an extremely young age and his ways of coping.
Now, while those two albums are still important to what led to Some Rap Songs, his long-awaited third LP and the album weβre talking today, it was a 10-minute EP/song he released shortly after IDLS that I feel is the most important stepping stone to SRS. Released to little fanfare, βsolaceβ was a project Earl intended for his

Do your worst!
It really does, I swear!
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
I won't be doing that today!
aight, in the spirit of Frankβs 2017 timeline, this is my Earl Timeline. Itβs everything that Earlβs been up to since dropping I Donβt Like Shit I Donβt Outside. Iβve missed out unimportant Twitter spats and unofficial leaks etc. Iβm sure the fans will help fill me in or check me if Iβm wrong. But please donβt repost this shit anywhere, Iβve put one on r/hiphopheads too. I donβt lurk too much but Iβll update with big news every now and then. Peace. And have a good Sunday.
