J W Marriott
Today
I was downtown for Spark earlier in the week, and noticed that one of the top floors of the Marriott (above the condos) lights up different colours at night - does anybody know whatβs up there, if anything?? Iβm guessing itβs just decorative, Iβve been googling to no avail!! Figured someone in here might know!! :-)
Let's start from the beginning: I tested positive and was sent an email to respond to. It was my responsibility to tell them I was on campus and needed to be sent to isolation. I received my first call telling me what to pack, then I received my second call about where they were taking me, then finally I was texted a pickup location and the white van whisked me away.
Arriving here there was a brown paper bag with snacks and a "Corgi Life" coloring book with complimentary colored pencils. In the bag was 2 packs of ramen, 2 cliff bars, some water, power aids, chips, granola bar, oatmeal, tea, and an antigen test,
Laundry: There is NO LAUNDRY. So pack enough for 10 days (at least that amount of underwear... don't be gross). They say if you need to do laundry they'll drop off the soap and you have to do it in your shower by hand.
Food: You SHOULD receive an email about the daily meals you can order from campus. If you don't receive an email telling you how to order food then call the support number on your welcome sheet. The choices are very slim but so far the food has been fine for what it is. Grubhub or door dash is very expensive, instead, use InstaCart to order as many microwavable dinners and snacks that will fit into your fridge from a local grocery store. They are often better and cheaper than the food they'll give you and at $3.50 a meal, it's so worth it if you're keeping a budget.
School supplies: You probably won't forget your Ipads or computers but don't forget the small necessary electronics too, like your calculator and calculator charging cable. A dead calculator isn't fun.
Toiletries: They provide you with very nice shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that you can call to get replaced so if you don't feel like packing any of those, you're set here.
Bed: Ask for extra blankets. Idk what's up with these beds but it's like sleeping under rice paper. Just order extra blankets once you get here or else you'll be cold.
Getting back to campus: They give you a $15 Lyft voucher to use in order to get back to your dorm once your isolation time is over or you tested negative on the antigen test.
Conclusion: You're being sent to an all paid for vacation. Actually its more like a Norwegian prison, you have a kitchenette, large room just to yourself, TV, Couch, Bathtub, Bathroom, study desk(s) BUT you cant leave. Its really not that bad. Bring everything you need for school and you'll be very comfortable here. It's not bad at all and honestly,
