With election nearing and people voicing their support for their respective candidates, some people are feeling jaded and pessimistic, thinking that the ills that plague our society probably won't change regardless of who gets elected. Different president, same problems, basically.
It reminded of Rizal and his mentioning that we have this social cancer. I'm no history buff to make a well-informed opinion on his thoughts and views.
Having said that, if he were alive today, how do you think he would feel / think about our country/society's current situation?
If he became president, what do you think are some of the things he'd do?
To those unfamiliar, Dr. José Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines and a man who despite being Filipino was lucky to not only be born to a wealthy family, but have the rare opportunity to travel. He was a polyglot, Doctor, biologist, and writer and died at the young age of 35 by execution. He was, despite being religious, a huge critic of church and advocated for a separation of church state. Today the Philippines is one of the most religious countries in Asia, is it possible had Dr Rizal not been killed that the Philippines could have developed into a more secular country?

Those two seem so similar that I wonder what would happen if they met, would they be friends? Would China and the Philippines be BFFs?
