He is dead in his first combat, in Dos Ríos, eastern Cuba, May 19, 1895. Some hours before he fall in combat, wrote to his mexican friend Manuel Mercado:

The cuban revolution ALWAYS have proclame that José Martí ideas is in the roots of their actions.
The vandals were instructed and receive money since Miami, Fla., and executed the actions at the night of december 31, 2019.
The sentences were of 15 years in prison for Panter Rodríguez Baró and 9 years in prison for Yoel Prieto Tamayo and the obligation to repair the damage and the lost of their righst as citizens by the same period.
A third man was also sentenced by support the actions, to one year in prison and the lost of their righst as citizens by the same period.
