Greetings
Samm Alvero: How are you, how have you been?
Josh Dun:: You know, I think in the midst of some pretty tough times, I'm good and I hope that more people are than aren't right now. I feel fortunate to say when people ask that question, I give that some thought and realize, like, wow, I have been pretty good and I'm thankful for that.
SA: Yeah, definitely. I mean, with everything that's happening at least we're healthy and all of that. So that's something definitely to be thankful for. But obviously, your fans in the Philippines miss you guys. It's been quite some time since you guys came back to the Philippines. So, what do you remember most about your last trip to the Philippines?
Josh Dun: Oh, man, I remember being beautiful and great food, and I also remember it being too long ago. Now thinking about it, it makes me want to get back to touring in general, but especially to come over there because it has been too long.
SA: Yeah, it definitely has been too long, but you guys are always welcome here when the situation is so much better. And we will promise the same with all of you and hang out with all of you. But it's really cool to see that despite everything that's happened in the last year, you guys have still been really working on music.
Creating During a Pandemic
AV: We are so excited for the new album Scaled And Icy and I thought the title was so unique and so different, so can you tell us the story behind Scaled And Icy?
Josh Dun: Yeah, it is a bit unique, but I think coming up with the album title, it's an interesting thing, it can be kind of tough sometimes and then you land on something that you enjoy. Then you kind of have to live with that for a little bit and then it just becomes normal. But just like any art, it can be interpreted any way you want and I think that's what's really cool about art. I think that when the process of writing and recording this album and really the state of the world, everything that we kind of see and witness is "scaled back" and "isolated" and yeah in a way that's kind of what that album is short for "scaled back and isolated" even down to the process of recording. Tyler kind of recorded stuff in his basement and I recorded stuff at my home- studio and we were just all alone working on that stuff. I think there was maybe three songs on there. So I listened to it, and the first song on there was the cover of Andrea Bocelliβs βTime To Say Goodbye.β He kind of did a remix and some rap in there and stuff. And I loved it.
