[OC] I rebuilt the Seattle Supersonics - The Expansion Extravaganza

There have been rumors of a possible expansion, so let’s imagine it does happen, but the NBA decides to only add one new team to the league (sorry Vegas), bringing back the beloved Seattle Supersonics. The Sonics are back babbyyyyyyyy!

Now the Sonics need to build their team from ground up, starting with the expansion draft, and following it with signing players in the off-season.

Here are some simplified terms of the expansion draft:

  1. All 30 NBA teams will have the right to protect 8 players on their roster. Anyone on the current roster is protectable, including restricted free agents. If a restricted free agent is left unprotected by his former team, he is available for selection by the Supersonics, who would then hold his Bird Rights for the up-coming off-season. Teams will typically have 4-7 players unprotected. Unrestricted free agents can neither be protected from nor selected in the expansion draft -- they are essentially ignored.
Players who are likely to be left unprotected by their former teams include aging, overpaid veterans, unproven bench players, players who do not fit in financially with their team, or who disrupt team chemistry.
  2. The Sonics may only select 1 player per team.
  3. The Sonics must work within 2/3 of the normal rules of the NBA salary cap, so there will be salary-related restrictions which apply to the team's selections. The team’s salary cap for the 2022-2023 season will only be 2/3 of the league cap (112.414 million), meaning 74.93 million. The minimum team salary is also 2/3 of the leagues' minimum team salary (101.173 million), meaning 67.449 million.
The expansion draft occurs after the conclusion of the 2022 NBA Finals, but prior to the 2022 NBA Draft. The Sonics do not participate in the lottery, but automatically get the 5th and the 35th pick of the draft.
  4. There are no restrictions on player positions during the draft.
  5. The Sonics must select at least 14 players.
  6. Here is a list of the players that each NBA team are, in my opinion, likely to protect, and a list of those who may be left unprotected (not all players are listed, but most of them, and all that have any chance of being drafted by an expansion team):

Atlanta Hawks:

Protected:

  1. Trae Young
  2. John Collins
  3. Clint Capela
  4. Kevin Huerter
  5. De’Andre Hunter
  6. Onyeka Okongwu
  7. Bogdan Bogdanovic
  8. Cam Reddish

Unprotected (Salary this year, Years left on the contract)

  1. Jalen Johnson (2.6 million, 3 years)

My friend watched NXT 2.0 with me from just before it's inception to WarGames. These are her thoughts

I should preface this by clarifying that she's not a wrestling fan in the traditional sense. She's a fan of good television, and she believes wrestling can be good television, yet if I don't suggest a match or watch a show with her, she doesn't watch it at all. After 2+ months of NXT 2.0, she's gained a sense of who's who, what's what, and where they're trying to take the show. That's fine by me, I'm done trying to get her into wrestling the way a wrestling fan is. That being said, she has quite strong opinions on it all, so it seems right to share them, the thoughts of a true "casual" fan in an age where CM Punk thinks they don't exist anymore.

From what I can tell, she doesn't have a particular feeling about styles of wrestling. Hardcore appeals to her, but simply because it's the easiest wrestling to compare to a fight scene. Comedy too, as her favorites outside of NXT 2.0 are comedic (Dude Love, Toru Yano, and Curry Man.) Technical, big man, high flying, it's all fine with her. Her taste in wrestlers is similar, though she’s generally more engaged by women.

Favourite Men:

  1. Joe Gacy and Harland:

She loves Gacy plenty on his own, but putting him with Harland adds something. "Auschwitz Survivor and his woke grandson kill people" was her exact comment. In hindsight, it doesn't surprise me that Joe is her favorite. We're both fat nerds who love good tendies and good storytelling, and as much as people like to say otherwise, Gacy tells a fantastic story.

2.Kyle O'Reilly & Von Wagner: From the moment she saw Von Wagner jump into Kyles locker to shield him from the wet british melts, she knew there was something there. As the weeks went on, this duo started to solidify themselves to her as some of the most entertaining characters on television.

Kyle, a grizzled veteran at only 34 years old. Technician standout with a comedic streak turned PG Joker turned bitcoin invester. She's never not liked Kyle, but in NXT 2.0, he's soared to her. She especially likes that he just does what he wants, including challenging Karrion Kross and doing coke in the woods with Von Wagner

Von Wagner. In her words, "The Doomguy of being a Minnesotan." He has an absolutely indomitable energy that she loves. Von Wagner almost appeals to her like a Better Call Saul character more than a wrestler, but his wrestling catches her eye as well. His promos were an instant highlight of any Dynamite. Favorite moment is when Kyle started punching him, and his reaction was K

My 2022 Reading Challenge Book List

For my 2022 reading challenge I have decided to read 1-3 books from every country in the world. This past year I attempted to do the same but the lack of preparation meant I was bogged down finding and waiting for books. Below is my reading list I have compiled as several people have mentioned they were interest.

Facts

It contains 520ish books with two countries I still need to find something for. 40% are female, 55% are male, and 5% are by various authors. There is a mixture of fiction and non-fiction. It includes everything from memoirs, cookbooks, histories, anthologies, legends, folkstories, poetry, plays, fantasy, romance, chick-lit, and scifi. The bulk is literary fiction.

Methodology

I started with the books I owned that I haven't read or wish to reread. I then looked through my TBR list on goodreads and reassigned those. From there I looked up my favorite authors on https://www.literature-map.com/, and included other authors similar to my favorites. From there I googled each country for their top 1-2 most popular authors. I finished with suggestions from reddit (including the country threads on r/books) and the amazing https://ayearofreadingtheworld.com/thelist/ . Authors with unlisted titles are because I was not able to find a copy of any book by the author at my library or for purchase (<7$) secondhand. These will need to be ILL and I’ll be deciding on the exact title when I apply for the loan.

Updates

I will be updating reviews of the books, as I go, on a subreddit I made for this called r/worldwidebooks . People are welcome to join me in the challenge for all of them, parts, or just to laugh.

List

Afghanistan

  • Qais Akbar Omar, Fort of Nine Towers
  • Nelofer Pazira, A Bed of Red Flowers
  • Farah Ahmedi, The Story of My Life: An Afghan Girl on the Other Side of the Sky

Albania

  • Gjergj Fishta, The Highland Lute
  • Kadare, Spring Essence
  • Elvira Dones, Sworn Virgin

This week will be a good game to view potential starters next season.

With covid, illnesses and injuries we have several players out plus even getting the 2nd seed we need to win and have a lot of help and it may be better to rest most starters. So this game will be a good indicator how these young guys can look.

Diggs and Brown is out giving Kelvin Joseph and Nashon Wright a great opportunity to play #1 and #2 with Lewis taking nickel.

Kearse is likely out and Wilson is questionable which gives Israel a chance at SS if they put him on the active roster.

With pollard being out it’ll give Hardy a chance to split with Clements on kick returns and running with the starters on offense.

With Gallup being out and Cooper being questionable it’ll give Brown some more snaps as the potential #2 with wilson being slot mostly.

I’m guessing Gallimore won’t play a ton and Odighizuwa as well which gives Bohanna a good shot to play more at NT.

Joseph Seed - Jared Leto (Think Jared could nock him outta the park to be honest plus the resemblance helps)

John Seed - Ryan Reynolds (John already looks and sounds like Ryan to the point it makes me do a double take sometimes)

Jacob Seed - Tom Hardy (Tom can definitely pull off the tough and grizzly Jacob, another great actor)

Faith Seed - Melissa Benoist (Really like her in Supergirl and she has the face and bone structure)

We had one three years ago so here's an updated list of what every past contestant is doing now! I'll be updating this as time goes on, so let me know if you hear of any updates regarding anybody.

Not included - Under the Gunn and international All Stars.

Italics = activities unknown, but assumed to be no longer in the fashion industry.

Jay McCarroll - teacher. What might have been...

Kara Saun - very successful costume designer including Disney's 'Descendents'.

Wendy Pepper - deceased

Austin Scarlett - achieved success after the show, but has since retired.

Robert Plotkin - active on Instagram but only shares family photos. Was a businessman at one point.

Kevin Johnn - still designing

Alexandra Vidal - still designing some really lovely pieces.

Nora Caliguri - creative director of a label which designs clothes for Costco and Target, having previously been creative director for Kendall and Kylie Jenner's line.

Vanessa Riley - children's entertainer and still lists herself as a designer in her social media bios.

Starr Ilzhoefer - inactive. Returned to working in real estate and was involved in a mortgage fraud scam on 2018.

Mario Cadenas - still designing his own line.

Daniel Franco - owns a film production company and apparently also a private chapel (!), but who the fuck knows with Daniel. I feel like he's either living an absolutely blessed life none of us can comprehend, or he's in prison.

Chloe Dao - still designing her own line.

Daniel Vosovic - still designing and runs a one-stop-shop business called The Kit.

Santino - Santino

Kara Janx - still designing, and runs a strange website with everything from fashion to badly-written gardening listicles and life hacks for parents.

Nick Verreos - still teaching and has a successful Youtube channel offering advice to new designers. Also a consulting producer for the show.

Andrae Gonzalo - CEO of Red Lobster

Zulema Griffin - production and costume designer

Emmett Mccarthy - business consultant for the label he founded after the show

[End-Of-Year bash!] The NewToReddit Encyclopaedia Hunt!

#The NewToReddit Encyclopaedia Hunt!

#New! With clues to all the quotes!

I’ve slightly altered 26 literary quotes from 20 famous authors and hidden them in some entries in our encyclopaedia! The quotes you need to find are hidden somewhere in the descriptive text of the entries, from books by the authors listed below. Any other quotes, partial quotes or Snowclones you might find from other authors not on the list below (e.g. β€œI regret that I have but one upvote to give.") don’t form part of this competition :)

  • Douglas Adams 3
  • Margaret Atwood 2
  • Ray Bradbury 1
  • Anthony Burgess 1
  • Lewis Carroll 1
  • Paulo Coelho 1
  • Charles Dickens 2
  • F. Scott Fitzgerald 1
  • Dave Eggers 1
  • Thomas Hardy 1
  • L.P. Hartley 1

  • Sir Isaac Newton 1
  • George Orwell 1
  • Boris Pasternak 1
  • J. D. Salinger 1
  • Brandon Sanderson 1
  • J.R.R. Tolkien 2

Each quote is at least eight words long and all are easily googleable. The slight alterations I’ve made on some of them are the addition or replacement of literally either one or two words to relate the quotes to Reddit or Redditors. Some are easier to find than others, and one entry has two quotes to find.

There are 26 to find in all and more you find, the bigger the prize!

Example and Answer Format

To start you off, under the entry for New Reddit; Old Reddit you’ll see: β€œThe story so far: in the beginning, Reddit was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.” which is (mostly) from Douglas Adams: β€˜The Restaurant at the End of the Universe’.

How to Answer

Now, ONLY comment under this post the number you’ve found so far. If you find more, you can edit the comment with the new number. There’s no limit on how many times you can edit the comment.

So, the only answer I’m looking for now is β€œ1” which you’ll edit to β€œ2”, β€œ3” etc as you find more.

Don’t post your complete answers until you’re asked!

You’ll need to make notes somewhere, as the answer I’ll be looking for eventually is β€œN

The Red Order-Development Diary III: Birthplace of the Revolution

The Red Order-Development Diary III: Birthplace of the Revolution

Hello, world! I am Jon or Comrade Jon to many of you and I am the Co-Leader of the USSR and Weimar Pact for The Red Order: First Days of Eurasia. It is with great honor and privilege to introduce you all to the Dev Diary of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the one hundred and the fourth anniversary of the birth of the Revolution! In this Dev Diary, the lore for the USSR, the Weimar Pact will be provided. As well as some small glimpses of what we have to look forward to in the 10 years of gameplay for the mod!

Before we begin, I would be doing my colleagues, comrades, and compatriots a massive disservice by not immediately thanking them for the opportunities that have given to me, from the USSR lead, Bruhingrad91, to the Redtide Lead, Tukh Stan#0001, to Community Lead Harold Ink and to every single person on the dev team. It is an absolute privilege to be able to get into Discord every day and work with all of you. We have built an amazing community together and I look forward to the day when we can all celebrate the release of this mod! The entirety of this Dev Diary is the work from the collaboration of The Red Order Dev Team and I could not have done it without the work of them and the countless others who have come before me.

Let’s begin, shall we?

Background Lore and the Hungarian Revolution:

The proletariat’s will for freedom did not only occur in Russia during the First World War but also in the Hungarian Soviet Republic. The second Communist state in the world, after Russia, was proclaimed by Bela KΓΊn in 1919 and emerged with a vast amount of support from the workers of Budapest and other industrial centers. The rural regions of the country, however, were vehemently against the new government. In an effort to unify his country around a common cause and to secure the support of the rural people, KΓΊn proclaimed his support for Greater Hungary and attacked north into Slovakia.

Yet, not all had seen the enlightenment of Marxism. In the south, a counter-revolt led by Admiral MiklΓ³s Horthy found its footing. French arms and money trickled into the hands of the Whites all the while having no formal support... Despite this, the Hungarian Red Army managed to liberate large swathes of Slovakia and push the White Forces back. Then, Romania attacked; striking into Transylvania with their experienced army, they managed to overrun the Hungarian outposts in the region. As

The Red Order-Development Diary III: Birthplace of the Revolution (Part 1)

As

2022 Around the World Reading Challenge List

For my 2022 reading challenge I have decided to read 1-3 books from every country in the world. Last year I attempted to do the same but the lack of preparation meant I was bogged down finding and waiting for books. Below is my reading list I have compiled as several people have mentioned they were interest.

Facts

It contains 520ish books with two countries I still need to find something for. 40% are female, 55% are male, and 5% are by various authors. There is a mixture of fiction and non-fiction. It includes everything from memoirs, cookbooks, histories, anthologies, legends, folkstores, poetry, plays, fantasy, romance, chick-lit, and scifi. The bulk is literary fiction.

Methodology

I started with the books I owned that I haven't read or wish to reread. I then looked through my TBR list on goodreads and reassigned those. From there I looked up my favorite authors on https://www.literature-map.com/, and included other authors similar to my favorites. From there I googled each country for their top 1-2 authors. I finished with suggestions from reddit (including the country threads on r/books) and the very popular https://ayearofreadingtheworld.com/thelist/ .

People are welcome to join me for all of them, parts, or just to laugh.
