Offseason Review Series Day 2: The 2021 New York Jets

New York Jets

Division: AFC East

1 Buffalo Bills (13-3)

2 Miami Dolphins (10-6)

3 New England Patriots (7-9)

4 New York Jets (2-14)

Grading System

Every year, my grades get a disproportionate amount of attention compared to how much time I spent writing up all of the Jets’ moves. I think that’s okay! I just wanted to clarify now though what I mean by all of the letters, just so there’s no confusion.

A = Excellent Value/Decision

B = Neutral-Plus Value/Decision

C = Neutral-Minus Value/Decision

D = Poor Value/Decision

F = Indefensible Value/Decision

Coaching Changes

HC Adam Gase Fired, OC Dowell Loggains Not Retained -- This was a no-brainer. Gase went 9-23 in his two seasons with the Jets, and his offense finished ranked last in total offense in both seasons. Gase and Loggains were brought in to improve the play of Sam Darnold, but his development from the end of his rookie season has been a disappointment for the Jets, so the team clearly had to go in a different direction offensively.

Grade: A

Interim DC Frank Bush Not Retained -- This was also a no-brainer. Bush was only the defensive coordinator because Gregg Williams had been fired midway through the season after a Raiders’ Hail Mary pass gave Las Vegas the last-second win over the Jets.

Grade: A

HC Robert Saleh Hired, DC Jeff Ulbrich -- Okay guys I promise not every grade here will be an 'A', in fact to prevent bias I ranked all the coaching candidates on an A-F scale PRIOR to interviews being announced. I just happen to love this hire. Robert Saleh has coordinated the 49ers defense for the past four years, and his defense has finished top-5 in total defense in each of the past two years, despite losing DeForest Buckner to free agency and Nick Bosa and Jaquiski Tartt to injury in the 2020 season. Saleh coached with Pete Carroll in Seattle during their dominant 2011 to 2013 stretch, during which the Seahawks won a Super Bowl and finished top-5 in total defense twice. Nevertheless, Saleh was not afraid to incorporate other ideas into his defense, such as those of Joe Woods and Kris Kocurek. Saleh brings a successful track record, a tried-and-tested Seattle 3 defensive scheme with openness to two high and wide nine concepts, and perhaps as importantly a fiery personality to pair with GM Joe Douglas. The Athletic Staff's NBA Mock Draft 2021 (Lottery Teams Only)

After last night's lottery, The Athletic NBA staff released a mock draft for each lottery team saying who they believe fits their team the best which you can read here:

NBA Mock Draft 2021: Picks for every lottery team including Jalen Suggs to Magic and Evan Mobley to Cavaliers

Here is the mock draft (Excerpts from explanations included):

> # 1. Detroit Pistons (James Edwards III's Pick)

Cade Cunningham | 6-foot-8, lead ballhandler | 19 years old, freshman | Oklahoma State

> "Cunningham, though, is the most complete player in the draft. In a perimeter-based, playmaking league, he’s the answer to the Pistons’ retooling...He’d slot in as Detroit’s primary ball-handler and offensive initiator. And with last year’s No. 7 pick Killian Hayes still very much in the picture, Cunningham can float to an off-ball role for stints, too."

> # 2. Houston Rockets (Kelly Iko's Pick)

Jalen Green | 6-5 guard | 18 years old | G League Ignite

> "Green can jump out of the gym. His athleticism will surely translate to the next level and having that explosion in the backcourt is a plus (see: Zach Lavine). Like some of his peers, his ball handling could use some tightening...He’ll need to really work on his passing at the next level or his turnover-to-assist ratio will be horrendous. Luckily for him, he’ll have John Wall to learn from."

> # 3. Cleveland Cavaliers (Kelsey Russo's Pick)

Evan Mobley | 7-0 center | 19 years old, freshman | USC

> "In the last mock draft before the lottery results, I chose Jalen Suggs as the Cavs’ pick. In this scenario, he was someone I considered alongside Mobley. But the Cavs have a history of taking the best player available even if there is position overlap, so Mobley becomes the choice here...At 7-foot, he adds more size to pair around the backcourt duo of Darius Garland and Collin Sexton. The potential pairing of Mobley and Larry Nance Jr. could add to a defensive mindset and unselfish style on the floor."

> # 4. Toronto Raptors ('Blake Murphys Pick)

Scottie Barnes | 6-8 forward | 19 years old, freshman | Florida State

> "Well, I’m deferring from my own board here to lean on the opinions of my colleagues Eric Koreen and John Hollinger...Suggs was No. 3 on my initial Raptor-ized board at the start of the process. Suggs has some questi

Ranking All 590 US Survivor players by Gameplay

I tried to expand my top 100 players and rank every survivor player ever through gameplay. They where split into tiers which contained multiple subgroups in them, which is what the spaces inbetween represent. Any player from the Subgroup is interchangeable with any other player in that subgroup as they are close in ability and I am Indecisive. (the exception is Tony, Parvati and Kim which are in the order listed). I Tried to consider both Proven feats and Natural survivor abilities. Obviously I don't remember every pre-merge player, particually from early seasons, so players might be out of order a bit.

Tier 1

1 Tony Vlachos (Cagayan, Game Changers, Winners at War)

2 Parvati Shallow (Cook Islands, Micronesia, Heroes Vs Villains, Winners at War)

I don't feel bad the Saints didn't get a pass interference call against the Rams in the 2018 NFC Championship Game

I'm honestly so sick of hearing Saints fans whine and bitch about how they got "screwed over" by a bad call in the NFC Championship Game. Yeah I know it was a bad call but after all the bullshit they got away with during the Gregg Williams era(especially those ridiculous hits on Brett Favre and Kurt Warner in the '09 Playoffs) and how the players involved basically got a slap on the wrist, they totally deserved to know what it feels like to feel cheated. It's ridiculous Jonathan Vilma was allowed to ever play in the league ever again, that should've been an automatic ban in my opinion. Saints fans also conveniently forget how the Saints were in total control of that game and allowed the Rams to get back into the game. They really should've never been in that position with a lead that big and the fact they allowed it to come down to a bad call shows they didn't belong in the Super Bowl that year.

UPDATED (V.2): Fan casting a live-action Pokemon series based on the games

This is an updated version of a previous post

Fan cast for a live action PokΓ©mon TV show that follows roughly the game storylines:

Seeing the prominence of new streaming services like Disney+, Paramount+, and HBO Max, and given that Detective Pikachu showed live action PokΓ©mon can be done, it makes sense that a live action PokΓ©mon TV show would be made by one of them at some point. That being said, I really hope these storylines follow the main plot points of the games, with a few added elements here and there that are both original and from other sources like the Adventures manga. For example, season 1 would follow Red, Blue and Leaf and take elements from Red/Blue/FireRed/LeafGreen, season 2 would be about Ethan and Lyra and be a combination of the storylines of Gold/Silver/Crystal/HG/SS (taking certain ideas and elements from each game to create the best overall story, tone and feel), season three would be about Brendan and May’s adventures in Hoenn based on Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/OR/AS, etc. The series could be called something like PokΓ©mon: Legends, as it would cover the events around legendary PokΓ©mon and iconic trainers. I think James Wan would be a great director the Hoenn Series, and maybe each season could have a thematic name pertaining to the story. For example, the Hoenn series could be called β€œElements” and the Sinnoh one could be called β€œDimensions”.

Anyway, below are my picks so far to fan cast this live action series. I thought it would be fun to share my picks and see what everyone thinks. I’ve aged up a lot of the main trainers to be teenagers, since child acting usually doesn’t end up very well (I thought Tim Goodman in Detective Pikachu was the perfect age for a main trainer/protagonist). I’ve mainly done Generations 1-5, since those are the ones I know the best. However, there are still some characters who I haven’t casted yet and would love some help and input for them!

Main characters:

Red - Nick Robinson

Leaf - Natalia Dyer

Blue - Rudy Pankow

Ethan - Ryan Potter/Dylan O’Brien

Lyra - Emilija Baranac/Morgan Saylor

Silver - Jake Austin Walker

Eusine - Drew Van Acker

Brendan - Cody Christian/Israel Broussard/Noah Centineo

Who is Cody Shearer ? How is He Connected to ObamaGate ?

When we take a closer look at many of these unfolding ObamaGate/SpyGate scandals, it is apparent this group enjoyed layered levels of plans. Look no further than the SpyGate’s elaborated fake dossier, illegal FISA(s), and inserted campaign spies to appreciate the total coup plot scope.

Post Q# 3837 on 2/6/20:

BIGGER THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE.

Crimes against Humanity.

The Silent War Continues......

The β€˜Insurance Policy’ was the Deep State’s listed option # 4 as part of operation Crossfire Hurricane. It makes things dicey when your takeover coup plot is riding on your last contingency proposal, termed hauntingly as your insurance policy.

Post Q# 4227 on 5/13/20:

[Russia] narrative ALL FAKE?

HRC/BHO launched a 2-prong attack against President Trump using a fake Russia collusion narrative plan. Hiring Christopher Steele through Perkins Coie/Fusion GPS was one part of their plan. The fake dossier was launched via the DOJ/FBI and would be used to apply for various FISA surveillance warrants on Trump campaign staffers.

Post Q# 2633 on 12/20/18:

”McCain associate shared unverified Steele dossier with BuzzFeed, court filing says.”

Contemporaneously HRC had hacks Cody Shearer and Sid Blumenthal developed a second independent fake Trump-Russia dossier. This second opposition research dossier would be run through the U.S. State Department, with the help of top officials Victoria Nuland and Jonathan Winer.

Post Q# 3605 on 11/19/19:

PAY-FOR-PLAY only works when you hold a position of POWER.

Cody Shearer is nicknamed β€˜Mr. Fixer’ and is a longtime controversial political activist as well as a former journalist. Cody Shearer along with his constant sidekick Sid β€œVicious” Blumenthal, are known Clinton enforcers and cleanup artists that briefly doubled as opposition researchers.

Post Q# 1929 on 8/20/18:

Coming SOON to a theater near you.

Enjoy the show.

Cody/Sid collected β€œoppo research” materials from foreign sub-sources, to form a two-part memo report given over to Chris Steele. This false material involved Trump’s 2013 Moscow Miss Universe contest and ultimately was included in Steele’s final Trump-Russia Dossier..

Clinton's Roommate and HRC's Second Russia Dossier - meet Strobe Talbott

Strobe Talbott is a longtime Clinton β€˜crony’ and who started the whole β€˜Friends of Bill’ (BC) club. Talbott was first a college roommate at Oxford and later President Clinton’s Deputy Secretary of State.

Post Q# 717 on 2/10/18:

Public: FBI/DOJ/O-WH/SD.

Private: Clowns Clowns Clowns.

Expand your thinking.

Strobe Talbott certainly had the top inner circle Washington/DC political connections via Slick Willy in the 1990’s. The old DC adage of β€˜who you know’ is political capital to be cashed-in. Talbott's rule over the famed Brookings Institute established his dominate role in DC politics.

Post Q# 1220 on 4/21/18:

Clinton Foundation conflicts of interest.

Strobe Talbott’s past Clinton State Department duties kept him looped into the international political scene. Talbott has been a top adviser to George Soros, a successful journalist at Time Magazine, and was the head of the Brookings Institute for many years.

Post Q# 1431 on 5/20/18:

TRUST the plan.

Conspiracy NO MORE.

Rumors swirled around Talbott’s improper communications with Russian SCR operative Sergei Tretyakov. Talbott claimed he was duped and tricked into exchanging classified information with this crafty Russian.

Post Q# 3925 on 4/9/20:

Do people really believe the biggest scandal in modern US history will go unpunished [Scot-Free]?

Strobe Talbott has an infamous Brother In-Law who is none other than Cody Shearer, a decades long Clinton enforcer. These two family members are both tied into the Trump-Russia collision extravaganza with direct connections to dossier author Chris Steele.

Post Q# 1334 on 5/10/18:

Rank and File.

DOJ, FBI, C_A, State.

Not Forgotten.

Strobe Talbott got involved with the Steele’s opposition research assembly (aka dossier) and distribution through Victoria Nuland and Jonathan Winer. Nuland/Winer were BHO State Department officials working with Christopher Steele at the urging of higher ups.

Post Q# 1840 on 8/10/18:

Cody Shearer and his constant sidekick Sid β€œVicious” Blumenthal are credited with creating the second Trump-Russia Dossier. Two fakes memos were given to Chris Steele and were included in his final opposition research work product that was turned over to the FBI.

Bombardier to Pilot Sharyl Attikisson "We're Over the Target"

Sharyl Attkisson is a premier reporter and DOJ whistleblower who has been the target of unauthorized surveillance. Ms. Attkisson has long been the champion for truth, transparency and exposure of corrupt governmental/elected officials.

Post Q# 1728 on 7/27/18:

POTUS AF1.

Biggest threat to the American people.

Ms. Attkisson’s has a pending lawsuit case against the DOJ/FBI that has finally reached the USSC. Oral arguments begin on 1/29/19 for the unlawful computer intrusion by our government on Ms. Attkisson’s personal equipment.

Post Q# 2578 on 12/10/18:

Sometimes β€˜intrusions’ have a way of safeguarding people and evidence.

Sharyl Attkisson has published an outstanding article about the timeline of the β€œCollusion Against Trump”. This superb article demonstrates just how far back in time all of the pieces were put in place to help ensnare our POTUS.

Post Q# 214 on 11/23/17:

What is the FBI?

Spying tool?

Nothing is what it seems.

Sharyl Attkisson has been credited for her 2012 groundbreaking journalistic investigations into tragic Fast and Furious as well as the Benghazi scandals. Sharyl had several unexplainable computer issues while covering these BHO-era political scandals.

Post Q# 2581 on 12/11/18:

Name IDEN Public and FBI β€˜intrusion’ and Lawsuit and Response to lawsuit and Public Reveal (otherwise sealed?).

Attkisson’s superb reporting drew her to attention of the Deep State enemy and ultimately into their crosshairs. This legal battle has been ongoing for years and we wish Sharyl success in uncovering the truth and her due reparations from civil court.

Post Q# 113 on 11/5/17:

Controlling stake in CBS?

Ms. Attkisson’s employer at the time of her first computer intrusion was CBS News. CBS’s team of computer experts established through neutral forensic analysis, that a Governmental agency(s) had penetrated her personal computer.

Post Q# 2070 on 9/3/18:

DAD JOKES ARE NOT DIRTY.

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Thank you,

A Dad.

[NFL] The Rise and Fall of the Minnesota Favres: Part 1: The Rise

This is the second in what I guess is now my Minnesota sports drama series. You can also read about the reviled Norm Green and the North Stars. For more NFL action, Smashing71 has a couple of great writeups.

The main thing you need to know about American Football for this drama is that the Quarterback (QB) position is arguably the most important in sports. All the plays on offense go through the QB and he’s the leader of the team. An elite QB can drag a crummy team into a playoffs, while poor QB play can bring down otherwise amazing teams. So a team that’s found themselves one of the top QBs will likely be a playoff contender for some time.

The Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings started playing in 1961 as an expansion team. Vikings is a good team name, as they have a reputation of being rough and savage just like Minnesotans, and there are a lot of Scandinavians in Minnesota. They first played outside in Metropolitan Stadium, where the Mall of America is now and across the street from where the North Stars played, before moving to the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis. The Metrodome was demolished and U.S. Bank Stadium built in its place in 2016.

The Vikings have had many great teams and players over the years, and have the seventh best all-time winning percentage in the league. Which you would think would lead to at least one or two Super Bowl wins (the league championship, if you’ve been in a coma the last 50 years), right? Well, I’m just going to quote directly from Wikipedia here:

>β€œThe Vikings have the highest regular season and combined winning percentage among NFL franchises who have not won a Super Bowl, in addition the most playoff runs, division titles, and (tied with the Buffalo Bills) Super Bowl appearances. They also have the most conference championship appearances of non-winning Super Bowl teams, with them being one of three to appear in a conference championship every decade since the 1970s. The only NFL franchise with winning regular season and combined records to not win a Super Bowl, the Vikings hold the most playoff losses in league history at 30. β€œ

So, in short, they’re very good during the regular season, make it to the playoffs a lot, often make it deep into

Story of the 2020 season:

Stats: 12-6-5 (W-L-D), 42 pts, +15 GD, MLS Cup champions

2020 was the first full offseason for the new front office and coaching staff of the Crew, installed after transfer of ownership from he who will not be named to the Haslem/Edwards families on 1/1/19. The offseason saw the club break its previous transfer fee record with the purchase of Lucas Zelarayan to replace former #10 Federico HiguaΓn. Darlington Nagbe was the other marquee offseason addition, reuniting him with his old Akron and Portland coach, Caleb Porter. With Zelarayan and Nagbe, the Crew looked poised to make massive strides forward on the field during the 2020 season – and that’s exactly what happened. From the two games before the pandemic shutdown, to the group stage of MLS is Back and all the way to mid-September, the Crew looked like the most complete team in the league and was a real contender in the Supporter’s Shield race. A late September humbling to Toronto set off a drop in form that would continue through the end of the season. The club ended the season going 3-5-2 over the final 10 games of the season but strong performances earlier in the season (key – MLS is Back group stage) locked up the #3 seed in the East and an assured first round home playoff game. Most pundits and realistic fans expected a win or two, but viewed a probable matchup with the Union or Toronto in later rounds to be a potential ceiling in the playoffs due to lack of consistency. As fate would have it, both the top seeded Union and 2nd seeded TFC fell, leaving t
