What are some of the truly underrated books that you have read? Many books occupy the limelight by popularity of authors, the marketing clout of the publisher and infrequently by dint of how good the book is. For whatever reason some really good books don't often reach a the wider audience they deserve. What are some of the good/great books that you have read that you feel deserves way more attention.

Selin Ascends is a classic example of an underrated book that finally got the praise and sales it deserved and this sub played no small part in making the book popular. I am sharing a few titles that came to mind while posting on an other thread.

Master Assassin's by Robert VS Redick. This book revived my love for the genre when I had hit a rut starting many books but always DNF those books. Check out Mark Lawrence's take on Master Assassin's here. I read this post by Mark Lawrence after reading the book and while searching reddit for this title to find out why it's not on as many recommendations list as it deserved to be and was the inspiration for posting this topic.

Neverwhere and The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. American Gods steal all the attention.

A Man of His Word by Dave Duncan. A lovely series thats lost in this age of grimdrark.

Acts of Caine by Matt Stover. One of the OG grimdark and a landmark book in fantasy.

Blackwing by Ed McDonald

The Traitor God by Cameron Johnston. (This deserves a longer post but short on time)

Ties That Bind by Rob J Hayes.

Master Li and No 10 Ox by Barry Hughart.

Lockwood and Co by Jonathan Stroud the author of Bartimeus Trilogy.

Travellers Gate by Will Wight. Cradle steals all the thunder.

Coldfire Trilogy by C S Friedman. Perhaps has the best anti hero out there in fantasy.

Edit : Criminal neglect on my part for missing out Kings of Paradise by Richard Nell. Thanks to author CT Phipps for getting me to remember. It's a terrific book. Ruka the protagonist is one of a kind and a hero in every sense. And he becomes a Hero not by a heart filled with goodness but by fighting every natural instinct of his. Rare book where the protagonist earns the readers respect.

And did you know that, apart from the occasional blog post, there wasn't any reference list about this type of books? Until today that is, because I went ahead and made one.

In 2012 BDS was calling for musical boycotts. David Renzer (at the time Chairman/CEO of Universal Music Publishing) and Steve Schnur (Music President, Electronic Arts) got together to form a group to help protect their musical artists against BDS harassment called Creative Community for Peace. They soon got: Warner Bros Records, Sony/ATV Publishing, Geffen Records, Atlantic Records, Columbia Records, William Morris Endeavor, Interscope Records, Ultra Records, AEG Presents, Capitol Records, and Amazon to join. They offered 3 services to managers and agents:

• Advice, recommendations and support in monitoring and/or managing the messages on social or in traditional media when their artists were under attack.

• Support, information, and further explanations of various accusations or threats being made.

• Arrangements to meet with – and possibly perform with – Israelis and Palestinians who use music and the art as a bridge to peace; to connect, communicate and better understand each other’s narratives.

Eventually bands started helping band members. Hello, I found your podcast since the Weinstein's annoyed me. And I was pleasantly surprised to see some figures which I am quite fond of: ContraPoints and Rutger Bregman, the former more fond of than the latter. So I was thinking, who else am I fond of or at least don't dislike like the Weinstein's, that might be possible to cover: Noam Chomsky came to mind, even though I think his guru-ness might be more caused by people than like him, rather than by him pursuing it himself, but I'd love to have my mind changed. Weirdly, John Oliver might be an option. And Stephen Frey, Johann Hari, Jaron Lanier, Jamie Metzl, Zizek, Brian Greene, Brian Cox, Rhonda Patrick, Matthew Walker, David Sinclair perhaps. Besides that, I am not sure atm, but I might have some thoughts in the future. Some people I am not that fond of came to mind, but they might suffer a similar problem as Noam Chomsky. Anyways: Thomas Sowell, Coleman Hughes, Milton Friedman (even though the man is dead of course, but he does have some martyr-like cult status online), Steven Pinker, Charles Murray, Russel Brand (even though I have some sympathy for his naiveness), Douglas Muray of course, Malcolm Gladwell, Jonathan Heidt, Camile Paglia, Lex Fridman. I mean like I mentioned before, some of these people might not be Guru-analysis suitable, but these people came to mind. Thanks for reading, and cheers.
