Hey everyone, I’m a long time resident on this sub and I’ve been supporting the Timbers since 2012 when I moved to Portland. I’m always Timbers first and I don’t think I truly loved soccer the way I do now until I found the Timbers. They are magic and the last decade of this team has been a roller coaster with amazing highs and awful lows.

I’m from New York. Long before I ever moved to Portland I tried going to Red Bulls games and watched the Metro Stars growing up. I never had any connection, and I never felt like there was a team that represented NYC. It wasn’t until moving to Portland that I really felt like I enjoyed American soccer. Growing up with the Metro Stars in Giants Stadium just to sell out to become an energy drink was tough. None of it felt genuine or real.

Being a soccer fan in New York has always been hard. When NYCFC came to town (and I moved home to Brooklyn for a few years) I got season tickets in hopes that there would finally be a team in nyc that meant something to New York. The reality is that it doesn’t. It’s yet another half assed attempt at having soccer in a city that deserves so much more than an energy drink, man city b reserve squad and a failed cosmos reboot franchise. I still supported them for years (all the while knowing the Timbers were my real team) hoping to see soccer grow in NYC. Maybe they’d build a stadium? Maybe CFG would sell the club? Maybe the team would really catch on with New Yorkers?

All this is to say that, we are truly blessed to have a team like the Timbers. While NYCFC fans can be a pain and there are problems with any fan base, have a little sympathy for New Yorkers that have been cursed to shit soccer for our entire lives. I’m never not going to root for the Timbers in any game they play, they are my team forever, but there’s a part of me that really hopes for success in New York soccer.

This is an updated version from my post of march. Which includes new abbreviations from the comment section and new words that popped up since then.

As we welcome newcomers everyday to this sub it's nice to have a all you need to know abbreviations guide to get them started. When i first started reading up things (because DYOR) i came across terms i've never heard of. So here are some of the most common abbreviations you will come across while doing research about cryptos. In this list you can also find the top 25 crypto as of 12 august 2021 wich are explained in mostly 2 - 4 sentences. I've taken some insparation from this post by u/Layneeeee as a guideline for some of the top 25 tokens. But also included some links to the white papers of them.

I hope this list can help new people coming in and maybe help some people that are just lost in all the jargon people use. I've put sections in the list to also help make the list easier to read. Maybe i missed some, so if anyone want anything added, comment and i will update it.

Top 25 cryptocurrencies (by marketcap) explained in 2-4 senctences:

1. Bitcoin (BTC): The original cryptocurrency. According to the creator (or creators?) Satoshi Nakamoto was created to allow “online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.”
2. Ethereum (ETH): Ethereum is the wonder child of crypto, acts as an infrastructure for most decentralized applications. Introduces smart contracts, which are like programs with specific procedures that, once deployed, no one can change.
3. Binance Coin (BNB): Coin associated with the Binance exchange, valuable since it is the most popular centralized exchange. Can be used to pay transaction fees on Binance.
4. Tether (USDT): A centralized stablecoin tied to the dollar
5. Cardano (ADA): Another blockchain trying to improve scalability, interoperability, and sustainability of cryptocurrencies. Those who hold th

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
