MEXICO CITY - In another major investment by the Imperium, the Imperial Research Institute for Nuclear Research has confirmed that Mexico has agreed to be part of a $50 billion Empyrean deal which would see the construction of an "Imperial Institute for Nuclear Research" in Mexico - outside the small town of Felix Gomez.
This major agreement was signed, formally concluding talks between the Mexican President and the Imperial Sovereign, with the facility beginning construction later in the year. Mexican scientists who have been granted Imperial Citizenship have been approved to work in the facilities, which will be dedicated to the studying and production of Element 115 - Moscovium.
This was met with celebration among the North American peoples, as the Festival of Ochpaniztli is set to take place in the heart of Tenochtitlan. One young woman has been chosen to willingly sacrifice her life to the Phoenix, with her head set to be decapitated following the uploading of her consciousness. After a year of development, the thorium test nuclear reactor has been completed at Davao City. The Philippines further extends invitation to the members of the East Asian Summit, as the Philippines sees this technology as the key to proliferate almost completely peaceful nuclear energy.
Due to the sensitivity of nuclear energy, regardless of its peaceful use, membership to this program will be extended to interested nations with the approval of all three of the core members.
Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors
Key aspects of the technology has been developed in the 60s and 70s, everything from reactor design, fail-safe systems and fuel reprocessing. This, however, would be the biggest fulls scale test of such reactors, expected to generate at most 60 MW of energy at full capacity. The key focus of researchers is to tweak the current design to iron out the remaining issues of the said technology, especially when scaling the reactor design. A second 300 MW reactor is being designed and expected to be completed by mid 2022 and will serve as a pilot run of a full scale LFTR power plant. Upon the success of the 300 MW reactor, the government is expected to fund the development and construction of 5 high capacity LFTRs all around the archipelago in the near term.
This technology is shared and developed jointly with Japan and the US, with technical assistance from India and Russia.
Updates on Shift to Alternative Energy
With the establishment of wind and solar parks all around the nation, the share of fossil fuel has gone down from 74.6% down to 62.1%. The government expects that this figure will further drop to 50.6% over the next two year as the newly constructed geothermal plants will start to run at full capacity. The Philippines is at the middle of conducting environmental impact studies on potential hydro-power/dam sites.
