A list of puns related to "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye"
Is there any art, writing, music that is anti-war or anti-conflict before this period? The earliest I have seen is "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye" published in London in 1867.
I am searching for the original tune, not the one of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again". If anyone knows, where I can find an Audio, Video or Sheet music please send a link. I couldn't find it after hours of searching.
Many years ago I heard a slight adaptation of the famous song "Johnny I hardly knew ye". The song itself itself is brilliant but this adaptation was probably the best song I have heard in my whole life. I got goosebumps and was extremly moved, and this is coming from a person who isnt moved so easily by music.
The reason for this was because the song itself conveyed so much more emotions than it normally does. The singer was vital for this and he was absolutely brilliant. It was as if he, despite the lyrics, personally knew Johnny and that he was a very good friend of him. This was perfomed by a small changes of tunes througout the song. In other adaptations or covers of this song the tune stays fairly constant through the whole song. This was different. It began calm, like many other adaptations of this do, but then the tempo and the singers pain increased exponentially for each strophe. At the end, the singers rasp, almost tear-filled voice contained so so much supressed greif and rage as if millions of dead Johnnys cried out through him.
I saw this performance on a youtube video many years ago during youtubes infancy. It was a cover band playing at a small pub. Sadly I dont know remember neither the band nor the pub and the video is long gone. I have searched both youtube and the internet in general but so far I have been unable to find it.
If my memory serves me well, the verses were arranged a bit different than what is normal for that song. Im not a musical person myself so some words can be wrong but anyway, here are the lyrics/structure of the song taken from my memory:
While on the road to sweet Athy, hurroo, hurroo While on the road to sweet Athy, hurroo, hurroo While on the road to sweet Athy A stick in me hand and a tear in me eye A doleful damsel I heard cry, Johnny I hardly knew ye With your drums and guns and drums and guns, hurroo, hurroo With your drums and guns and drums and guns, hurroo, hurroo With your drums and guns and drums and guns The enemy nearly slew ye Oh my darling dear, Ye look so queer Johnny I hardly knew ye.
I'm happy for to see ye home, hurroo, hurroo I'm happy for to see ye home, hurroo, hurroo I'm happy for to see ye home All from the island of Ceylon So low in flesh, so high in bone Oh Johnny I hardly knew ye.
But where are those legs with which you ran hurroo, hurroo But where are those legs with which you ran hurroo, hurroo Where are those legs which with you ran When you were forced to carry a gun Indeed y

So I was clearing out some older games on my Vita I've barely touched to make room for new ones and I ended up deleting the game Passing Time. It didn't occur to me until the bubble disappeared that since it's a PlayStation Mobile game I will apparently never be able to download it again! Perhaps it's not the end of the world since at first glance it didn't seem like my kind of game anyway, but I really dislike the "What if? Now you'll never know" feeling of never being able to access it again. Is there any way to recover PSM games that have been recently deleted, side-load them via PS3/Vita transfer, or is it really a one-way trip to the bit bucket?
