The dude has had bust after bust draft since Scot McCloughan left town and is probably the reason more than anything for this step back
I loved Zodiac. It was another great David Fincher film, about the mental degration that many people have gone through by trying to solve the case on the Zodiac Killer. People's lives are still being overtaken by the case to this very day, so the film's message is definitely still relevant.
However, the film's most underrated aspect has to do with it's main suspect; Arthur Leigh Allen, who is played incredibly by John Caroll Lynch.
The case's prime suspect until the early 2000's, Arthur Leigh Allen was a massive scumbag, regardless of if he was the Zodiac or not. He touched children, he talked about murdering them and many others. Lynch skyrocketed in this role. He mastered being incredibly creepy and eery in the few minutes he was in the film for. He was also incredibly annoying and unlikeable, another great touch by Lynch.
Whether or not he was the Zodiac or if it was Fincher's intention to portray him as such, Arthur Leigh Allen was a massive bastard played greatly.
When that stat was going around about Zimmer being the longest-tenured coach without a Super Bowl win, I was curious about the success those longer-tenured coaches have actually had in recent years. But of the coaches ahead of Zimmer, several of them have very little to show since Zimmer was hired in 2014.
With the obvious exceptions of Andy Reid and Bill Belichick (who have happened to be a lot more successful when working with goat-tier quarterbacks), and Carroll (who last appeared in a conference championship/Super Bowl at the end of Zimmer's first season coaching), none of the longer-tenured coaches have appeared in a Super Bowl since Zimmer was hired. Several of them, as I note in the title, haven't even cracked the Divisional Round. Some might argue Sean Payton should've won that conference championship in 2018--which, by the way, was his first and only conference championship since 2009--but I suspect none of us here are going to make that argument. And despite some regular-season success for Tomlin, Carroll, and Harbaugh, they have very little to show for it in the playoffs in the last five years.
What do we take from this? Obviously Zimmer's last conference championship appearance wasn't terribly recent, either. In recent years the Super Bowl has pretty much been The Brady and Mahomes Show, with the only recent outlier being the dreaded combo of Foles/Pederson--who are both basically out of a job now, just a few years later. Guys like Tomlin and Payton (and, arguably, Zimmer) tend to stick around for consistently putting out competitive teams, but recent Super Bowl teams have had a lot of coaches like Doug Pederson, Ron Rivera, or Dan Quinn, who manage to really put it all together for one season--and then collapse after (or during) the Super Bowl. For my money, I see very few excuses for us to miss the playoffs this year--but the real question, for me, is if Zimmer can put it together enough for us to make some legitimate headway in the playoffs. And then get our hearts ripped out again.
Me personally? Purple Kool-aid all the way baby, 20-0 Kirk Cousins here we come
Did Rob ever apologize after his comments towards John in Marquesas and outing him? Iβve seen some people on here saying John said he called him up and apologized and some saying John has said Rob never apologized.
Decided to also do reviews midweeks so here we go.
Twisty the Clown π π π π π
Next to the Rubber Man and perhaps Pepper, Twisty has become the face of AHS. Just search for merchandise and buy a mask, a shirt or a mug - you will always find endless things in online shops. As much as iconic Twisty became in Freak Show he had to take the short end of the stick and see an early exit in the season. Gone too soon, but leaving some impact for decades to come, he jumped right into our hearts with his rather sad backstory and his brave, yet insane characteristics which made him a total stand out. He came back shortly for Cult, but another return wouldnβt hurt as he might hit Freddy or Jason status. Itβs just a matter of time.
John Wayne Gacy π π π
It appears that John Carroll Lynch can perfectly play serial killers, whether real or not. As surprisingly nice and that special manic look in his eyes John perfectly nailed the role of Gacy who was deep down inside just as vile as the rest, of those who attended Devilβs Night at the Hotel Cortez. It is always such a joy to see John slowly exploring the AHS world and become a go-to actor for Ryan Murphy.
Benjamin Richter π π π π π
You may think itβs not possible for John to top his work as Twisty or stay on the same level as him, but it is. As Mr. Jingles he was mainly deemed as the villain of 1984, wouldnβt there have been some clarification later what has really happened decades before, showing Benjamin rather as an innocent victim of a murderous plan. This and the provocative calmness are things the character has in common with Twisty. Though surprisingly Jingles took a turn and became a loving father who would later seek revenge at Camp Redwood and turn out as the secret hero of 1984. This was such a developed plot in a season that had no Evan Peters and no Sarah Paulson to set things straight.
Larry Bitterman π π π π
Johnβs streak as a villain doesnβt stop here. In the first season of Stories we see a filmmaker who loses it at court and attacks the judge for not understanding his piece of art. Years later he would hand out a copy to the Drive-In and have his "Rabbit Rabbit" film played. Until the end of the episode he would get a visit from two teenagers that werenβt so impressed with the movie and leave the director to die in his trailer. In usual best form John led the episodeβs climax and made it one of the best of the spin-off.

Impeccable addition to the AHS universe.
