Say the Commune of France wins the Second Weltkrieg in 1945 and Germany is occupied. Now the International must ponder the question of territorial changes. Dunkirk and Nancy are obviously returned to France to revise the Treaties of Versailles, but what shall happen to Alsace-Lorraine? While many Communard factions are probably demanding the return of French territories, it would go against the principle of national self-determination. By now, Alsace-Lorraine has been a part of Germany for 75 years. Its inhabitants speak German and act German. There are Germans who have lived their entire lives in Alsace-Lorraine. French-speakers in the area are concentrated around Metz and the few valleys near the French border, but they are a minority in the territory.
The question of Alsace-Lorraine would undoubtedly be the largest political question for a post-war Commune. I can see that the Travailleurs and Anarchistes might favour a regional plebiscite on the status of the territory, while Jacobins and Sorelians would likely demand its outright annexation. The totalists may play on the nationalism of the French people; not even the hardest revolution will extinguish their spirit.

When France fell on 1940 and Nazi Germany re occupied (annexed?) former Kaiserreich territories of Alsace-Lorraine, what were the French citizens of German descent's attitude to their reunion with their German brothers?
I was intrigued about the French resistance against the German occupiers as well as French collaborators. Were French-Germans (I have to abbreviate them somehow) loyal to France (Free France) or sympathetic to the Germans?
