SPOILERS - Anyone read Jesse Stone novels by Robert B Parker? Rant

SPOILERS

Ending on book 5, Jesse & Jenn are good. You knew they wouldn't last, but it was nice to see them compromise at the end of 4, and then see their full, monogamous relationship in book 5. I feel like up to the end of 5, the slow development was natural and I looked forward to see them both grow, probably apart, but grow!

I just started book 6 - High Profile. Enjoying the slow development between Jesse and his many bed buddies, I am APPALLED that they start book 6 introducing "the perfect woman" && dismiss Jenn and Jesse's breakup entirely. She cheated. I knew she would cheat, but why can't I be there when he starts realizing? Does he start snooping?! What happened?! Why did we not see any of this development?!

Sigh, I feel like I invested a lot into this series and they just changed all development on a whim. I have not even met Sunny yet, but already I do not like her.

Rant over. What do you guys think? Should I be prepared for more rugs being pulled out from under me in future books?

Has anyone read Jesse Armstrong's novel?

I just started it and love it so far! It will temporarily fill a Succession-shaped hole in my life. Curious to know what others thought or think of it.

It's called Love, Sex, and Other Foreign Policy Goals

1980s-90s YA fantasy novel with horses, modern teen girl protagonist visits another magic world with a horse, maybe a character named Jesse/Jessie

As a kid I went through a horse-obsessed phase of reading every children's fantasy book about magic horses/unicorns/pegasi/etc that my local library had. But there was one particular fantasy horse book at the library that I tried to read multiple times (because it had horses!!) but never actually finished reading because it was too confusing or boring. Now years later I'm curious if the book was actually bad or just a little too advanced for my reading comprehension at the time.

I'm not totally sure about any of the following descriptions, because I read so many horse books together within a short time that I'm possibly combining them in my head. Anyway, book details:

  • Available in English paperback in the USA no later than 2000, but likely published earlier than that, in the 1980s or '90s. It was shelved in the library children's books section but was likely a teen/YA book or adult fiction that was misshelved.
  • Female author, probably.
  • Book had the word "Horse" in the title AND/OR had a horse illustration centered on the cover, because that horse is why I kept trying to read it. The cover image horse may have been rearing against a desert backdrop. The title may have had a 1-2 word phrase of "Horse+[word]," like "Horsenoun" or "Horse-Verber."
  • Protagonist was an average modern city-dwelling teenage girl who wears jeans, and at least part of the book was set in the "real world" modern USA or Canada.
  • Protag Girl somehow ends up in a different land with magic and a horse. (A magic horse?) There was a dreamlike sense that Protag Girl was confused how she got there, like she had dreamed of this place or entered a dream or tapestry, or possibly there was time travel.
  • Protag Girl was flirting with or dating a somewhat older guy. I had a sense that he was slightly inappropriate or shady for her to be romantically involved with: maybe he was a little bit too old for her, or did drugs, or rode a motorcycle without a helmet, or was generally an edgy hooligan. (My judgy tween self may have been projecting stronger moral disapproval onto this guy.) I don't remember if Older Guy was someone that Protag Girl knew from the real world or if she'd met him in magic horse land.
  • There may have been a character named Jesse or Jessie, possibly Protag Girl or Older Guy.

Horsey books that are NOT this book: anything by Robin McKinley; the Black Unicorn series by Tanith Lee; I'm 90% sure it's not the Alanna series by Tamora Pierce.

[TOMT][Book][90s] YA fantasy novel about a boy who has some magic stone referred to as a beryl.

I believe he had a rivalry with another boy, I recall them fighting with swords or knives and washing his wounds in salt water. One was probably a price, it may have been a fantasy dystopic setting, as I read a lot of those in middle school. I read this in 8th grade, so it had to have been in or before 1999. I thought it was Winter of Fire for a long time, but recently found that book again and I do not believe there are 2 boys in it.

[TOMT][NOVEL][90s] A science fiction novel about a future reality in which students travel back in time to learn about Stone Age civilization

I read this in a '90s SF almanac, with futuristic novels. The main plot is that some anthropology students travelled back in time in the Stone Age and infiltrated some tribes, to learn about their language and tradition. This was some kind of an internship for them.

A funny scene I remember is when all the tribe members stand around a fire and some of them start to speak English, soon to realise that they all were students, except 1 man, who was an actual tribe member.

[TOMT][BOOK][2000s] A novel about cloning. A father runs a fertility/ cloning clinic. People protesting outside said clinic and breaks the cameras by throwing stones. Also has a society of underground clone defects or imperfect humans? and they are unable to reproduce.

I remember the cover of the book had the word clone on it. Dark blue/ black colors on the cover too. Also I think the imperfect humans/ defective clone are planning an uprising. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been searching online and haven't found anything matching.
