I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Liberal Republican nomination
With incumbent president Ulysses S. Grant's administration being rocked by scandals and corruption, a new political party was formed by dissatisfied Republicans: the Liberal Republican Party. They sought to root out corruption in politics through civil service reform, and were generally classical liberal.
The 1872 Liberal Republican National Convention was held in Cincinnati, OH from May 1-3. With the party just being founded, many men from around the Union saw an opportunity to become the first ever Liberal Republican presidential nominee, and thus have a firm grip around the young party. The candidates were:
- Horace Greeley, former U.S. representative and newspaper editor from New York
- Charles Francis Adams, former U.S. representative and son of former president John Quincy Adams from Massachusetts
- Lyman Trumbull, U.S. senator from Illinois
- Benjamin Gratz Brown, governor of Missouri
- David Davis, associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from Illinois
- Andrew Curtin, former governor of Pennsylvania
- Salmon P. Chase, chief justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from Ohio
The support was generally regional: New Yorkers supporting Greeley, Westerners supporting Trumbull or Brown, and New Englanders supporting Adams. Greeley also held an advantage with the newspapers: he got his friends in the newspaper industry to print stories supporting him for the nomination in the weeks leading up to the convention. With cheers and jeers for each candidate coming from every corner of the convention hall, the delegates moved to a vote. The vote lasted 6 rounds, with 2 of those rounds being revised:

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
