UPDATE: That's a wrap! We've got to get back to our reporting, but thanks for all of your questions!
Iβm Eric Tucker and I cover the Justice Department for the AP. Iβm Jeff Horwitz and I am an investigative reporter. Weβve been reporting on Robert Muellerβs investigation into how Russia tried to interfere in the US election last year, including any ties to Donald Trumpβs campaign. AMA!

Today Jeff Sessions resigned as US Attorney General after being requested to do so by President Trump.
Sessions had been recused from oversight of the probe currently being run by special counsel Robert S. Mueller into any links and/or coordination bet ween the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump.
That had meant Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had been supervising that investigation.
Trump announced that instead of Rosenstein who is 2nd in command at DoJ he would name Matthew Whitaker, who was Sessions' Chief of Staff as acting Attorney General.
What is known about Whitaker's career and history, and any attitudes or positions taken related to the Mueller probe?
What power would Whitaker have to curtail or terminate the investigation?
Mod footnote: I am submitting this on behalf of the mod team because we've had a ton of submissions about this subject. We will be very strictly moderating the comments here.
