A Western Each Year - 1970: "Monte Walsh" starring Lee Marvin, Jack Palance, Jeanne Moreau and Mitchell Ryan, scored by John Barry. Aging cowboys struggle to find a place for themselves as the Frontier closes. Great performances by Marvin and Palance playing against type in a beautifully shot film.

"Your Favorites Of 2021!!!" - Anime (Seasonal, AOTY), Characters, OP, ED, Insert Song, Dub Performance, Moments, Fights, etc...

I think if there was a year that was the busiest when it came to anime dubbing, it was certainly this year. As of December 27th 2021, we have had over 240 dubbed anime in this past year alone: including continuing dubs from 2020, Full season drops, as well as ongoing weekly dubs (or as best to weekly as the hard working Cast and Crew of each show can put out) credit to u/Toonami2020 for providing the data and spreadsheet.

Us anime fans were spoiled with so many great shows this year. And there were indeed some quality shows this year (as well as some bad ones). Many of us will have our own opinions of which shows should be crowned Anime of the Year/Season. But feel free to use this list as time of reflection on the shows that impacted you, made you appreciate the art that is anime, performances that made you laugh/cry, characters that have made a home in your heart, and so much more.

Obviously, like with every "Your Favorite ______" list, it's all completely subjective. So please be respectful of everyone's opinion.

----------

(Copied from last year's "Your Favorites of 2020" post)

Categories include the following, but are not limited to these. So feel free to add in any category you think I missed.

  • Favorite Animes of 2021
  • Favorite Anime Movies of 2021
  • Favorite Characters
  • Favorite OP
  • Favorite ED
  • Favorite Moments
  • Favorite Fights
  • Favorite Dub Performances
  • (Whatever Category you'd Like)

There is no set rules or guidelines to follow. And you can list as many or as little as you want. I have put certain limits on some of my lists, like a number limit, or One Character Per Show limit, but that doesn't mean you have to. This is your list so feel free to name whatever your favorites are.

*Disclaimer: I'm Counting each show as when they aired, rather when the dub was released, unless show aired before 2021. (For Instance: Otherside Picnic aired on Jan. 4th 2021 will be counted as a Win

2021 reading summary and selected reviews

I know I’m a few days late to the party but I finally managed to complete my 2021 summary, so here it is.

THE NUMBERS

51 books read, plus one DNF. Two books were physical copies, the rest were on kindle. No audiobooks. This includes part of a 2020 Bingo card, a complete 2021 Bingo card and most of a second 2021 card. This was in line with my objectives for the year, as I wanted to see if I could complete two 2021 Bingo cards. I have eight books left for my second card, comfortably on track to complete it on time. Next year I’ll just do one card, as I have some series and non-genre reads to catch up on.

23 Fantasy, 20 Science Fiction, 6 Horror and 2 genre-related nonfiction. Some books have elements of multiple genres, so these numbers are approximate.

30 books by new-to-me authors (Book Bingo working as intended!). The majority of these books were good or better, and several were truly excellent.

26 Female and 25 Male authors as far as I know (allowing for some multi-author books and some authors for whom I read more than one book), with apologies for any mis-gendering.

THE BOOKS

I don’t give books numerical ratings, as I find it impossible to give consistent ratings over the course of a year. Similarly, my choice for the top books would change from day to day. However, there are certainly books that stand out from the rest, so here are some short(ish) comments on my notable books of the year (NB possible minor spoilers). The categories that I’ve used are arbitrary and I’ve chosen to restrict books to one category only, which forced some interesting choices. The order in which books are listed within a category has no significance.

BEST PROSE

The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo. This is a beautiful and poignant novella, telling a brief history of the titular Empress as recounted by someone who knew and loved her. Chih, a travelling cleric and scholar, visits a remote country house to learn more of the Empress of Salt and Fortune. The Empress was a victim of a forced marriage who had spent several years in exile at the house before overthrowing her husband the Emperor and becoming Empress in her own right. At the house Chih meets Rabbit, a former servant and friend of the Empress, who tells stories of the Empress’ rise to power that are prompted by various objects found around the house. Vo uses the structure of stories within a story perfectly, recounting historically significant even

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

#State Dept. blockade

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) continues to effectively block almost all State Department nominees, including 59 ambassadors and critical national security positions. Only one ambassador has been confirmed amidst the obstruction: former Sen. Ken Salazar, now the US Ambassador to Mexico.

>β€œIt’s really an undermining of the nation’s national security process,” said Bob Menendez, Democrat of New Jersey and the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. β€œWhat we have here is an unprecedented, blanketed holding of all nominees β€” regardless of whether they have anything to do with the policy issues at stake.”

>β€œThat is not something I have seen in 30 years of doing foreign policy work” in Congress, he added. β€œThis is unprecedented.”

While Cruz cannot unilaterally block nominees, he can and has objected to the normal procedure of confirmation, thereby requiring hours of floor time to confirm each nomineeβ€”and taking away from pressing matters like infrastructure, debt ceiling, and government funding bills. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) managed to confirm six important State Dept. nominees in the past week by clearing hours of floor time.

>Mr. Cruz and his allies insist he is taking a principled stand on Nord Stream 2, a gas pipeline project from Russia to Germany that has long been an issue of high interest for him… Cruz accused the Biden administration of showing β€œweakness” toward Russia. He has since exploited Senate rules to turn confirmation votes β€” even generally routine ones, for career foreign servants headed for relatively midlevel jobs or low-profile ambassadorships β€” into hourslong exercises.

*Reminder: Cruz did not hold nearly the same concern for former President Trump’s weakness toward Russia. For example, in 2019 Cruz [voted](https://www.texastribune.org/2019/01/17/texas-congress-

Gothic + Dark Jazz??.

Something like dark cabaret or southern gothic with a saxophone and a skilled singer/vocals? I may be asking too much but any recommendation would be appreciated, hah, i asked in the "goth" subreddit but it's pretty much a dictatorship of mods that does not understand i am asking for a mix of genres, maybe this sub is more fit for that, hahah, this song may serve as a "sort of" example for this idea as well as David Bowie's "Blackstar":

Tom Waits - Alice

Edit: Thanks for all the answers, i think you all must listen to this album - Jeanne Lee & Ran Blake.
