Bill Bryson is a great writer and he really helps the reader understand some complex issues. As with any science book, paying attention is of the utmost importance or you’ll miss something and be behind forever. But, I liked it, and ended up listening to another Bryson book down the road.
I mean, I love Anthony Bourdain. No book will live up to Kitchen Confidential, but this is a great companion piece. It’s interesting to see how his beliefs have changed now that he’s seeing things from another perspective. Not all just stories of Les Halles, but still great to hear his voice and hear more of his story. I wish he was still around. Also, if you’re interested, there’s a TikTok series of a woman who is cooking her way through Bourdain’s Les Halles cookbook and it’s really interesting.
I was trying to get into a new sci-fi/fantasy type series and I had heard good things about this series and I love Wil Wheaton as a narrator. But really, I didn’t enjoy it that much. Certainly not enough to continue the series. But, always a pleasure to listen to Wil Wheaton.
