A list of puns related to "Jack Halloran"
Just finished the audiobook (which was outstanding) and this is, (combined with how much King threw around the n word with zero retaliation or consequence from any of the characters...I know it was a different time, but come on) seemed totally unlike Wendy. Halloran saved her and Doc's life, risked his own, battled some insane evil spirits, and was just a pure soul. Did I maybe miss the part where she shares the insurance money with him and that's the restaurant he opens at the end or something? Or is this just another case where the person of color is reduced to the "magical" but ultimately nonmaterial character.
I also don't understand why Wendy would want to forget it ever happened when she knows her son is going to be all fucked up for life plus has the shining. He's going to need to bring it up once in a while, Ma. I assume she's just still so in shock and has to process the trauma in that certain way for now.

No drinking rules, it's dry January!
Recently I was arguing about the Wendy Theory with someone and it felt like it took a lot of liberties and assumed many things we aren't shown in the movie. I do feel there is a lot of things not shown in the movie but I think it's for a different reason.
My current theory is that there are different psychic visions from Danny and Halloran, possibly The Overlooks point of view, reality and scenes from Jack's head or possibly from his book all happening at the same time in the Shining and they are assigned colors on screen to let keen viewers in on what we are seeing, I also think light switches and light fixtures play a role in deciphering this. Throughout the entire movie though Kubrick puts this together into a cohesive narrative that somewhat follows the book. So think of it as 5 movies from different points of view including Wendy possibly.
The first bit of red we see is cars in the Overlook parking lot and on the Native portrait before we walk into Ullman's Office. Ullman has The Red Book on his desk titled The Red Book (The whole Carl Jung connection is explained in other people's theory videos) and Ullman is wearing a Red Jacket and white shirt with Red Stripes. Plus the US Flag is on the desk adding red. Later in the movie he is wearing brown, I don't think this is coincidence. I believe whenever we see red on screen we are seeing a vision that Danny is having. (Yes I know I've skipped over Catcher in The Rye and the glasses that both Danny and Wendy are drinking out of. I believe both are foreshadowing clues and not smoking guns).
I think the scene where we pass the door with the Dopey sticker that has red instead of green is the main indicator that there is a color scheme to the movie. We haven't met Dick Halloran yet and later on I will show that I believe his color of his psychic visions is green and this is why Dopey appears red and not green. Not that we are in one of Danny's hallucinations at this point but I believe he is hallucinating in his head after we see the Dopey sticker. In his head he is seeing more red, the hotel lobby filling with blood.
Next we are in reality (I think) and as Wendy leaves Danny's room to talk to the doctor we see no sticker on the door. This perhaps is us being sent back to reality? I believe for a moment we are in reality but as Red becomes a prominent on screen color again in Wendy's shirt I think Danny is witnessing the conversation. The book on the table says "The Wise Child" and it is in several shots a

I recently watched the movie The Shining for the first time. In the movie when the Torrances are on their way to the Overlook Hotel they talk about the Donner party, something I had never heard of before. That scene got me interested in learning more about what the Donner party was, and after doing some research and watching the movie over and over, I noticed quite a few similarities between the Donner Party and The Shining.
Please help me add to the list if you can think of any other similarities, or let me know if anything needs to be "corrected".
Donner party - 42 people died Shining - 42 on Danny's shirt, Danny and Wendy watch the "Summer of 42" on television
Donner party - first man to die: Luke Halloran Shining - first man to die: Dick Halloran(edit: The spelling of Dick's last name is Halloran. Someone pointed this out in the comments. thanks)
Donner party- 5 months from start of journey on the Oregon trail (May 12) until reaching the Sierra Naveda mountains where they became snowbound (early November). Shining - 5 months from the time the Torrances left Vermont until reaching the Overlook Hotel where they also became snowbound. Jack refers to the time as "five months on the wagon". Also the Overlook's season is 5 months from May to October.
Donner party - travel in covered wagons Shining - Jack drove a Volkswagen (when Jack gets to the Overlook for his interview there are 42 cars in the parking lot. (Edit: there are more than 42 cars in the parking lot) All different types of wagons: station wagons, VWs, Wagoneers...
Donner party - they didn't follow the established trail which ultimately lead to their demise, misguided by Lansford Hastings Shining - in the maze, Jack didn't follow the established trail which ultimately lead to his demise, misguided by Danny
Donner party - began journey on Oregon trail, Independence, Missouri Shining - Jack becomes the ghost of the man who is in the picture of a party dated July 4th (Independence Day)
Donner party - travels the Oregon trail which takes you to California or Oregon Shining - Jack tells Loyd he's "the best bartender from Timbuktu (California) To Portland, Maine (Manifest Destiny) or to Portland, Oregano for that matter"
Donner party - George Donner's (the father of the Donner family) hand was badly cut while he was making a new axel for his broken down wagon on October 31 (he died 5 months later in March) Shining - Jack's hand was badly cut (by Wendy)

"Tonight is the night we've been waiting for all year, the Gemmie awards! That's when our fave TV stars get dressed up and take home the gold."
"I am so pumped for this! Are you, Josh?"
"The shoes!"
"The hair!"
"Aah!"
"Welcome back to Celebrity Manhunt! We thought we'd pay tribute to this year's most famous reality TV show cast: the teens who braved it all on the set of Total Drama Island and Total Drama Action."
"They're nominated in the category of Best Reality Ensemble."
"No doubt."
"Love it!"
"Total Drama may have ended, but the drama goes on and on, and our crack team of undercover gossip reporters have been super busy this year. Poser Boy got his party on; Miss Know-It-All was caught with her pants down in Paris. Zut alors!"
"The Celebrity Manhunt cameras caught them all, even Gwen spotting Heather's three-ounce weight gain."
"We've been measuring the popularity of this famous gang using our amazing, awe-inspiring Celebrity Manhunt Drama Machine!"
"Let's start with Total Drama's newest BFFs. Last season, Lindsay plucked Beth from the depths of geekdom and became her gal-pal."
"...literally."
"Ooh, poor Beth. Her parents had to sell their car just to bail them out after months in the slammer."
"Lindsay will totally bring it; she is a style super-diva, on and off the red carpet."
"Next up: post-Drama bods. This year, we saw major improvement and fitness fiasco."
"Harold let himself go, but Eva pumped herself up. Way up."
"Someone's gonna blow a sweat valve."
"Hm-heh-heh! Nice one, Owen! DJ also took to the airwaves."
"...only problem was, people did. DJ, what were you thinking? We tracked down Momma to answer a few questions."
"While DJ and his Momma aired their dirty laundry, we went looking for more."
"...or any sign of him. Noah, where are you?"
"Meanwhile, our cameras were hot on the trail of another Total Drama man of mystery."
"Can someone tell me just how Heather got her celeb status? That girl gives dirt a bad name."
"Me, too! Grumpy Gwen doesn't wear the teen uniform; she's weird and awesome and the total anti-Heather."
"Then came Heather's online attack."
"Brr! Gwen couldn't let this go; she had to retaliate, which is too bad; she's so much better than that."
"Eww!"

Jack was taken by the entity right before he freezes to death in the snow.
Killer weapons: Fire axe and Mallet (Jack Torrence used a mallet in the book.)
Killer outfits: Legendary skin: Possessed Danny from Doctor Sleep.
Breaking Animation: Similar to huntressβ breaking animation except he says βHereβs Johnny!β
Power: The Caretakers base speed is 95 but when in chase he tiers up in speed when in tier one he is default speed in tier two heβs speed is 150 and in tier three his speed is 205. But when the survivor escapes he tiers back down to tier one.
Perks: Hereβs Johnny (When The Caretaker breaks something any survivor thatβs in a 4/6/8 meter radius they suffer from the exposed status for 15 seconds.)
Hex: All Work No Play: (Every time a survivor is Moried or sacrificed and the hex totem is not cleansed 2/4/6 seconds are added to opening the exit gate.)
Great Party isnβt it: When you find the obsession but they escape a phantom form the overlook points you in the direction of the obsession for 1/2/4 seconds.
The caretakers perks are based off of a concept video from Youtube.
Mori animation: Survivor tries to crawl away but they get pulled by the leg and Jack then swings his axe or mallet six times onto the survivors body and finally jams it into the back of the survivors head.
Maps: Overlook Hotel and the campground from the book version of doctor sleeps final act.
Survivor: Adult Danny Torrence.
Danny was taken by the entity right before the overlook blew up in doctor sleep even though this would retcon the ending.
Survivor outfits: Legendary outfit: Wendy and legendary outfit: Halloran.
Perks: Watch Out!: When in the terror radius of the killer and the killer is within 8/10/14 meters of another survivor they will see the killers aura for 3/4/6 seconds.
Astro Projection: Hide inside a locker and press Triangle/Y/M1 to spectate a survivor (a part from yourself) closest to the killer for 20/40/60 seconds but be careful the killer can still find you and if the killer does find you the perk gets canceled.
Shine on: when healing a survivor or doing a generator the closest survivor sees your aura for 6/8/12 seconds.
All of Dannyβs perks are original except for the first one which was suggested by u/uwubbuyou
Also if you are the obsession and the killer is the caretaker you will see the ghosts of the overlook.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
