Az író célkitűzése az volt, hogy Rómának, mint városnak az eredetéről rendelkezésre álló információinkat összefoglalja, majd ezután képet adjon a római társadalomról és államról a különböző korszakokban a Pürrhoszi háborúig bezárólag.
A motiváció főképp az volt, hogy angol nyelven ilyen célkitűzéssel nem igazán jelent meg könyv még korábban, és a témát a szerző szerint az angolszász akadémiai körök sokszor elhanyagolják.
Összességében nagyon jó áttekintés a korai római történelemről, és olvastatja is magát. Szerintem laikusoknak is kellemes könyv, néhol meglepően frivol megfogalmazással. Például, amikor az fejtegette, hogy az arisztokraták minden történelmi korban lóarcúak kellettek legyenek, nyilván azért vonzódnak a lovakhoz, nem álltam meg nyerítés nélkül.
Technikai kérdés:
Van valakinek ötlete, hogy a laterforreddit miért nem volt hajlandó kirakni a posztot ahogy beidőzítettem? Már több mint egy éve használom ezekhez a posztokhoz, de még sose történt ilyen. A saját kezeimmel kellett posztolnom ezúttal!
Ez tarthatatlan, és nem szeretném ha még egyszer előfordulna, úgyhogy minden javaslatot szívesen fogadok. Illetve arra az esetre, ha a laterforreddit végkép bemondta az unalmast ismer valamelyiktek hasonló oldalt?

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
