A list of puns related to "Iroquois Theatre Fire"
Dec. 30, 2021
The stretch of time between Christmas Day and New Year's typically is filled with festivities marking the holiday season. One will find people involved in all sorts of activities this time of year--meeting with friends and family, attending parties, dining at a favorite restaurant, or taking in a movie.
It was no different on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1903. In Chicagoβs bustling Loop, 1,900 people, including mothers and their children, gathered at the newly opened, βfireproofβ Iroquois Theatre. The occasion was the matinee performance of Mr. Bluebeard, starring Eddie Foy.
But instead of memories of a holiday outing, the day ended with 602 dead and 250 injured after a spark from an onstage arc light ignited theater curtains. An asbestos curtain was dropped to smother the flames, but it snagged 10 feet above the stage. This failure caused toxic smoke and flames to spread throughout the auditorium. (It was later learned the curtain was made out of paper, so it wouldnβt have helped anyway. History.com, https://tinyl.io/5SBF)
Exits were concealed by drapery. Panicked theatergoers in the balcony were faced with locked accordion gates, which had been installed to prevent patrons from sneaking downstairs to more expensive seats.
In addition to locked gates and concealed exits, people had to contend with inward opening doors and dead ends.
History.com reports in its On This Day series that 27 of the theaterβs 30 exits were locked. https://tinyl.io/5SB7 The practice of having ticketholders stand in the aisles to watch performances also proved deadly as they blocked people who were seated.
Stagehands tried in vain to squelch the fire. As cast members realized the danger they were in, they opened a stage door which let in a gust of wind which caused a backdraft, creating a ball of flame that rushed through the theater. A ballerina, harnessed to fly over the stage, was trapped in her rigging; she would not make it out alive. *Smithsonian
... keep reading on reddit β‘Has anyone heard about the Iroquois Theater Fire in Chicago on December 30th, 1903? The 117th anniversary of the disaster is coming up and I feel like not enough people know about it. There is only 2 books dedicated to it that I could find. About 600 people died that day. A lot of them were children, and a lot of people were trampled to death. If anyone wants to research it and preserve the memory, I think all those people and their families would appreciate it.
So this is new issue. I used to connect my Fire TV Stick 4k (non MaX) to an echo dot 3 and use the Aux out to go into my in ceiling speaker amp. Works amazing. I can connect a fire tv in each room to it's own echo dot and I can watch tv through the ceiling system.
The new Fire Stick 4K Max with pair just in Theatre mode to the 4TH Gen Echo dot. It will play music an display the music screen on the Fire TV Max no problem. As soon as try to use any app that has audo on the Fires TV 4K max, the sound will only play out of the 4Th Gen Echo dot and will not push it out the aux.
I have been trying to explain the issue to the support team, but they can't seem to grasp what it is that I do. Perhaps they didn't like what a cheap and easy solution this was. I was hoping to upgrade, but I think I will have to stay with the slower original 4K Fire TV stick. Such a bummer, but I guess I save a few bucks. It has been a great way to update an old in-ceiling system.
Anyone else have this issue or been able to get an answer from Amazon about this?
