I made the liege waffle recipe from smittenkitchen and all went well, except for one thing. maybe two things.

First, most importantly, as the batches went on the pearl sugar left in my waffle iron began burning. I was making small waffles, four at a time, and the recipe got me perhaps three or four batches of these. Burning sugar smells bad, it started smoking a bit, and left bits of burnt sugar on the later batches of waffles. This sugar was really easy to clean up once the iron was cool (removable plates ftw!) but does anyone have any idea how to mitigate this while in the process of cooking?

Secondarily, this particular recipe does NOT involve a proof / rise after the dough balls are portioned out. Do you suppose that would improve/lighten the texture?

With e1.6.0 available in beta and e1.5.10 on its way to live soon, we thought it’d be a good time to share another development update to discuss the latest changes to the game. So, here we are, Development Update #8... let’s do it!

##CAMPAIGN INTRO (e1.5.10)

First up, we have a new campaign intro video that helps to bring you up to speed with the recent history of Calradia and establish the setting as you set forth on your adventure.

You’ll need to start a new campaign if you would like to experience the video in all its glory, or, if you are too invested in your current playthrough, you can watch it here on our YouTube channel instead!

##DIFFICULTY PRESETS (e1.5.10)

If you do decide to start a new playthrough, make sure to check out the new campaign difficulty presets which provide you with some helpful suggestions for the game’s difficulty settings. Newer players may want to consider starting out with the Freebooter or Warrior settings, which represent Easy and Normal respectively, while more experienced players may wish to opt for the more difficult Bannerlord preset. These presets are accompanied by a number of additions and changes to the difficulty options that allow you to further tailor the game’s difficulty to your liking.

##IRONMAN MODE (e1.6.0)

For those of you that are a little more adventurous and prefer to play the game on the latest beta branch, you can increase the game difficulty for your next playthrough even further in e1.6.0 by activating the new Iron Man mode that restricts your campaign to a single save file.

##SAVE FILE CHARACTER (e1.5.10)

A new player character visual was added to the save/load screen that helps to remove some of the burden from your memory when it comes to recalling characters from your save files, especially if you have multiple ongoing playthroughs. However, please note that you will

The Maesters of the Citadel are a fascinating bunch, being (mostly) naturalistic scientists and scholars living in a medieval/early modern fantasy setting, who earn their keep by serving as doctors, tutors, advisors, and secretaries to the nobility.

One of the distinguishing aesthetics of the Maesters is their Chain, interlocking links of various metals, with each metal representing a distinct discipline, and each link representing a level of expertise in that respective skill.

From the appendices of AFFC, we see that the Citadel divides its studies into 21 overarching disciplines (based on the fact that there are 21 Archmaesters, and each Archmaester by definition is the master of their respective department).

However, we only have references to 15 metals (and thus, 15 possible subjects), and only have a correspondence of metal and subject for 7 of these.

So, we are presumably missing 6 metals, and 14 subjects. For the metals, I have figured that they are probably going to look relatively similar to the metals we've already seen, which would explain why viewpoint characters don't comment on them, as they do not perceive a difference.

And for the subjects, we are told that the Maesters study a number of additional disciplines, including Herblore (likely a part of studying Medicine), "the building of castles," "navigating by the stars," and "the measurement of days and the marking of seasons." We are also told that Maesters advise regarding the sowing and harvest of crops, and can presume that Maesters are trained in other languages, so as to aid their liege with foreign correspondence.

Taking

(Ooc: First things first. Apologies for the lateness of this. Just, busy with threads and stuff. So, sorry. But here, this is the reason for the build up of those past post.)

On {Redacted} in the east, where so much has happened in the past, the climax is closing.

Somewhere in a cave, lie the Primaris and their sergeant, Rangdan, the one’s who disappeared as soon as they arrived, are now messing with a strange device. One from the dark mechanicum. These men, these red talon’s, these iron hand successor chapter…..their cloaking technology is no longer on. Inside this cave where no one can see them, they’ve removed the disguising technology that had been put on them. Revealing tiny marks of Tzeentch on each and every one of them, painted sloppily on their power armor. It also reveals Rangdan’s power armor, his bionic eye no longer radiating red but instead a gold yellow. His fist, his iron fist, are now shown to have some sort of gold painting on them, to simply make them look gold it seem. Currently, Rangdan is messing with the device, with his primaris brethern next to him, his fellow renegades.

After a bit, Rangdan stops messing with the device, the twisted and incomprehensible device that comes from the dark mechnaicum, and turned to his fellow renegades

Rangdan: The device is ready. Send the message to the main vessel.

One of the primaris nodded, sending a message through some sort of implant in their head, as the other Iron hands looked to the floor in shame, and one said

PIH1: Emperor forgive us.

The other primaris nodded, saying along with them

PIH’s: Emperor forgive us.

They all said so, expect for Rangdan, who simply kept his head low but focused on the mechanism, and turned it on

And as he did, every vox on the planet, any non psychic way of communicating was cut off. A planet wide scrambler device.

while this was happening, Vinly the alpha legionarre was in the forest. The culprit for the symbols and signs that were showing up a good while ago. He now was standing in the forest, as he held out a hand. Psychic energy gathered it, and the remaining symbols that had not been erased, begin glowing, as Vinly continued to hold his hand out, and then say the command word for these symbols to trigger

Only on clash of kings but stannis doesn't seem like a winner from what I have read of his personality so far. He's rigid, uncompromising, has a HUGE chip on his shoulder (understandble but it clouds his thinking), and shortsighted.

1. Refusal to ally himself with Robb Stark. Why not just agree to an alliance to wipe the Lannisters out and then settle the issue of Northern Independence after he actually has the throne. I understand how grant one kingdom independence could look bad once he has re unified the realm but they did help him win the throne so it's justified.

2. Rhllor and the red woman. How long does he expect to rule having a queen who's a religious nut and taking counsel from a foreign witch. Followers of the old gods and followers of the seven have tolerance for each other but rhllor followers seem like fanatics. Does he think Lords and smallfolk a like will stand by while he burns their weirwoods, destroys their septs and possibly kills those who will not follow the new religion?

Also he seems a little delusional. He expects everyone to bend the knee to him ,why? He has no real proof that Cerseis bastards are jamie's. Storms end is not his by right, robert was a douchebag to pass him over but he was passed over, they owe their fealty to Renly. the north and the trident? Being subservient to the iron throne cost them many of thier fellow northerners and their liege lord and his daughters, cost the riverlands even more. Really surprising that they aren't pro iron throne anymore? Not off to a good start for someone with pitiful resources and no Allies. I think his best bet would have been to legitimize edric and make him his heir, isnt his wife past child bearing years?, and come to some accord with Robb to defeat the Lannisters and help him re unify the kingdom. Having edric as his also give him a more desirable princeling for alliance prospects

Looking forward to your thoughts. Does he change at all throughout the other books? does he think on his choices and what he could have done differently?

I (possibly wrongly) believe that the least talked about POV/storyline going forward is the "Davos headed after Rickon" and its affect on the northern storyline. This could be due to a number of reasons (people think it quickly assimilates into the northern plotline, the very little info available about it, and just outside of the spookiness of Skagos it just isn't as interesting as some of the other things going on.

Do forgive me if this question doesn't belong here (if it doesn't, i'll remove my post), but I had a question regarding the waffle makers in my title. Which would you recommend?

I had read reviews from multiple sites regarding their performance and longevity, though I wanted to check to see if anyone here had any pleasant experiences with either. I don't want to purchase an expensive waffle-maker only for it to break or cook unevenly down the line.

Aside from making waffles, I plan on using the waffle makers to create crispy deserts like brownies or waffle-shaped cookies.

Price point isn't a issue as they're both around $250. Though I will admit the removable plates on the All-Clad is attractive since it'll be easier to clean.

I'm doing a Tommen run in a feast for crows, and I beat Stannis and made House Wensington the lords paramount of the Stormlands. House Wensington is a cadet branch of house Baratheon and I've seen the AI turn cadet branches into the main branch. Like the Karstarks becoming Starks. But I don't see any option as either the Wensington's or their Liege to turn them into a Baratheon. How do I do this?

Update: You have to be the last living member of a house, with no children, to legitimize a cadet branch. So that begs another question. I've seen the Ai legitimize House Bolling into House Durrandon. Even though it would be impossible to do so with this method since there are no living members of House Durrandon. So again, new question, how would I do something like this? Using a cadet branch to resurrect an extinct house.

Update part 2: To make an extinct house come back to life, the cadet branch has to be independent from the Iron Throne. So for the Bollings to become Durrandon they have to be an independent storm king, for House Oldflowers to become Gardener they have to be an independent King of the Reach. One that happens they have an option in the intrigue menu to legitimize themselves

There’s something that I very often notice when reading otome isekai: most of the worlds that the action takes place in present societies that are far more atrocious that what we see in most modern day countries. You have an often extremely rigid classist society, where even looking at someone the wrong way can get you whipped/jailed/executed with no chance of defending yourself.

Most MCs we see are part of the upper class of this society, often a princess or more often a duke’s daughter. We then see them act in the same way as all the people around them, treating the lives of those beneath them as lesser, or refusing to treat servants with the basic respect one would afford another human person in our day and age.

And I get that it’s supposed to be ‘authentic’ and that ‘those were the times’, but that doesn’t make it any easier to accept. For instance, if I read a book where the protagonist is a man from the times of Ancient Greece who just had intercourse with an underage boy, I’m not going to just shrug it off because ‘those were the times’ and keep rooting for him. There are certain things that are just not acceptable under our modern standards and many people will not root for a character who operates under such a large moral discrepancy.

Let me give you an example: ‘kill the villainess’ is a great read, and I find myself really invested in the plot. That being said, I find it hard to accept that our MC, a person from our modern times can just hire someone to basically give up his every wish and his very life for her purposes like some kind of puppet, without the MC so much as indicating that she’s uncomfortable with him being almost like a slave to her. And I see this in so many OIs, with many readers cheering when they see a knight willing to give up their life for their liege, or a maid willing to die for the MC’s happiness. And I just scratch my head and wonder why some people would be so happy seeing characters being treated like human chess pieces without so much as taking notice of the fact that they are human beings with their own desires and lives, and the fact that they act that way is more a sad reflection of how they have been indoctrinated by a classist society that keeps hammering home the fact that their only worth is as tools for their masters.

Or take Abandoned Empress for example, where the emperor can just kill entire families with no repercussions, where he can enslave other nobles with no one treating it as a morally reprehe

Beelzebub and his team of negotiators arrived first. Typhon pretended to act surprised the sophistical devils had found him. He played along with their foolish game. If any, this was the order of operations he would have chosen. He could easily juggle words with them while his mind was fresh, but it might be more difficult to follow their twisted logics after his body and soul had seen battle.

"Which is why you should sign this contract," continued the aloof and pretentious king of demons.

They had come under false pretences. They claimed they had simply heard of Typhon's return and sought him out in order to pledge their allegiance to him. They made no mention of the children or the tavern.

Typhon played along, smiling inwardly all the while. So long as he did precisely the opposite of what these slippery overconfident salesmen were advocating, he would be in the clear. He would wear them down, forcing them to continue their chatter, gradually grasping the direction into which they were trying to herd him, and all the while searching for their weaknesses, waiting for them to burn out. Then in one swift and unanticipated swipe, when they were weak and their guards were down, he would pin them and bind them. From there it would be easy to toss the fools down into the primordial prison.

Beelzebub offered to give command of his legions of devils and condemned slaves if only Typhon would sign this contract, written on a giant piece of posterboard in letters each as large as a tabletop.

"And what am I required to give in exchange?" asked Typhon.

"Your contribution is minimal," explained the suave devil. "I give you command of my armies of hundreds of millions, and once you've conquered the world, the solar system, the galaxy, you place me at your right hand as your second in command."

"Anything else?"

"A minor caveat," said Beelzebub. "Hardly worth mentioning. But the contract states that you must keep confined here for the next half hour. Which should be no problem for you, given how long you've already sat patiently in here."

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.

I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.

When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."

From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"

Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.
