Long time lurker, first time poster. Hope you enjoy! I’ve tried to explain most things, and I’ve tried to give rank equivalents in U.S. O- or E- grades for ease of understanding rather than NATO rank.
Setting the scene:
So there I was, (no shit), dressed in field DPM (disruptive pattern material, aka Camo) with a massive bergan (issue rucksack) standing in a frozen field on the moors in February at zero dark early, staring at a map and desperately willing it to make some fucking sense.
My feeble head-torch was looking at the squiggly lines and the surrounding humps of black hills on black fields, with black water running somewhere nearby in the shadowed landscape. I looked around again, as though that would suddenly help it click in my head where the hell we were, and realised that as my team chatted amongst themselves, I was the incompetent junior officer we all joke about who couldn’t read a map properly.
Well fuck.
My First Independent “Command”
There were (fortunately), several factors in my defence. Unfortunately, this didn’t make it any less of a disaster.
My particular brand of muppetry could be explained by the fact that I was:
- A very junior officer in the Royal Navy, and had no business being on land, let alone in uniform with shades of green on it.
- Completely untrained in land navigation, being used to naval charts and calculating wind and tide rather than elevation and map-to-ground.
- In an area I had never been before, with 6 hours notice, in the dark.
- (As it later transpired) 3 miles from where we were supposed to have been dropped off.

How did I get here?!
Rewinding just a little more, we find our intrepid 18 year old Midshipman (O-1) busy working on an assignment, safely in his cabin at BRNC Dartmouth. (The UK version of Annapolis, but RN Officer cadets are only there for 6-12 months depending on branch).
A knock comes at the door, and as it opens, with our hero’s divisional officer (Lt, O-3) and his division chief (CPO, E-7) standing there, holding a clipboard.

By the time I finished writing up all the weird shit from WoW's first release, I had double the character count of a single post. And WoW has nine expansions and several spin offs, not to mention drama at its parent company, Activision-Blizzard. So I have decided to split this post up into parts. As for the entries in this post, I’ve tried to put them in chronological order, but there are some dramas that stretched out over many years – and in those cases, I placed them where they started.
What is World of Warcraft?
While I’m sure almost everyone has at least some idea of what WoW is, I’ll give a little overview. World of Warcraft is an MMORPG developed by Blizzard Entertainment – a fantasy game which takes place in the colossal online world of Azeroth, where players can quest, fight, and interact with other players. There are two factions – the Horde and the Alliance – each had separate playable races, separate cities, economies, questlines, politics, backstories, and attitudes. The factions acted as the cornerstone for the game’s PvP.
WoW was an immediate hit when it first came out in November 2004. It followed on the heels of games like Everquest and Ultima Online, but completely reinvented the formula, with more player conveniences, far greater variety, graphical fidelity, and storytelling. It was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stagnating genre, and went on to dominate the MMORPG genre for two decades. Here is a video beginner’s guide to those who need it.
#Part One - Beta and Vanilla
‘Vanilla’ is the term players use to refer to the game upon its release. The game was unpolished, its community a wild west where anything went. The rules and expectations of MMORPGs hadn’t really been figured out yet, and so this is when a lot of WoW’s strangest dramas took place. We won’t be touching crazes like the hilarious Onyxia Wipe or Leeroy Jenkins or The Talisman of Binding Shard, because there isn’t really enough meat on the bones there. But they’re fun to go back to anyway.

This is a bizarre situation and I have never encountered anything like it before, so please bear with me.
About a week ago I was home alone in the evening, just hanging out on my couch and watching tv while my husband was at his band practice. I was also smoking weed, which is decriminalized (I believe, could be wrong about that) in North Carolina but still illegal. Not making any excuses for it, that's what I was doing and it is what it is.
We own our house and have a large fenced-in backyard with big floor to ceiling windows looking out on the yard. We keep the blinds and curtains closed when we aren't at home and at night, but usually leave the blinds up just a bit during the day at the bottom so that our dog and cats can look outside and watch the squirrels and such while we're gone.
This particular day it didn't occur to me to fully close the blinds at the bottom. It's only about maybe a foot of exposed window and our yard has 7 or 8 foot privacy fence and tons of mature pine trees that make it impossible for the neighbors behind us to see in. It was dark, around 9:30 pm and I was smoking out of a large glass bong. Suddenly I saw a weird flash coming from the window I described, like a phone's camera flash. I didn't think much of it, figured I was being paranoid and that it was a reflection from the tv or something, and just closed the blinds fully and turned on our back porch lights just in case. I didn't hear any noise and our dog didn't start going bananas like he usually does when someone he doesn't know is outside. Our fence is kept locked and while possible to climb over, it would be pretty difficult. I didn't think much more of it after that.
Until yesterday. I get home from work and check the mail. In the mailbox was an unaddressed envelope, and inside were several grainy pictures of me from that night, sitting on the couch, huge glass bong in hand. They weren't great quality but it is clearly me, clearly a bong, and there is also a jar of weed visible on the coffee table in front of me. Do you see what I see? The proportion of X to XX has changed quite a bit. My guess (and I think I'm right), is that a lot of our silverbacks opened CS accounts with a purchase and probably shared it to Reddit. Then as their broker transfers come through, my software will actually MOVE those records from X to XX.
Can I quantify this? Well, if I spent some time writing code, yeah... but I don't want to do that.

Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Date point: 7 months, 12 Days - After Invasion
Nearly two days have past as a lone human pottered around the penthouse suite of the Imperial hotel, and he was in a great mood, the sun was shining, his meeting was set, he was even trying his hands at experimenting baking an experimented with a range of sauces and cocktails in preparation for his nightclubs grand opening.
But what added to his excitement he felt at the prospect of seeing Imizael and meeting her cousin even though she’d had to reschedule the initial meeting.
Whereas Carmilla on the other hand was still a pissy mood, he’d tried ask her ‘what’s wrong’, but she had snapped at him like a mean dog, so he had left her alone and as her dark cloud grow and grow he tried to cheer her up by asking her more about that little upgrade project of hers.
But she didn’t bite.
Instead all she did was give him the specs and didn’t say another word as she disappeared from his vision but the last thing he saw of her disappearing form was the look of resignation she wore like a mill stone that hung around her neck.
So he’d made a few calls and after assuring them that “no this isn’t a crank call and yes, I want this and that please, and I know things are up in the air at the moment, so I’m more than willing to pay the extra fees.”
Then once the funds cleared and reassurances about the delays were given - the lady on the other end of the call thanked him profusely for his business, then confermined the drop off and installation locations.
Ending the call he went back to checking his sauces and made another cocktail then he popped another candy-flip into his mouth and washed it down.

Happy New Year! What is your New Year's Resolution?
Personally, I have never had one. But, I have seen people go through the whole gamut of them, such as attempting to bid farewell to drinking, smoking, losing weight, and so on. All of the aforementioned are very challenging to endure and undertake! But, if any of you have decided on those, or anything else, for that matter...I wish you all the best in success! As for me, I guess I will just make my resolution to keep helping to "Rockin' The Classics" for another year!

A kickass Led Zeppelin song! But, in the grand scheme of things, not always gonna be the best for "certain" Cores on the Mini Classics! The Graphics Libraries are pushing in a direction for quite a few Cores, with which they are simply not easily supported on the Mini Classics. MD/SNES/NES can only handle the 2.0 OpenGL range; PSC 3.0. As a result, certain Cores, such as Flycast/Mupen Xtreme, and so on...are becoming increasingly less compatible for us. In order to "make" them work, things would have to be potentially broken til the point of it being best just using the current posted versions! More on this, as the Release Notes unfold!

While this should normally be innocuous and inconsequential, the sheer magnitude at which these counterfeit historical narratives are being peddled is alarming. This 'FERVENT' nationalism especially among the younger Indians mutated into blatant chauvinism which coupled with extreme religious bias has seen to the emergence of multiple revisionist opinions and otherwise risible narratives upon Kashmir and Kashmiri history. One such facet of it is claiming of the medieval (esp. the Hindu) history, the one king in particular I want to talk about here is Lalitaditya Muktapida.Lalitaditya, the intrepid Hindu warrior who would surely have squared off cheek by jowl with his dearest co-religionists against the 'filthy Muzalmanic foreigners'! Now, for the sake of arguing, let's assume for a moment that he was indeed the fervent ruler representing the quintessential brave Hindu who conquered vast lands in name of the Hindu Gods, wouldn't it be contrary to logic to conveniently ignore that the people he conquered, the lands he annexed were also Hindu lands to begin with?(the same lands where countless small kings and princes constantly warred against each other).
Since, unfortunately, the late king would hardly be able to communicate his view of the matter in his current position, Let's take a look at the few records that show what Kashmiris and the king thought of foreigners in general and Indians in particular with especial care towards the king, Lalitaditya's conduct in foreign lands, who essentially ,more or less, embodies the link modern Indian revisionists try to force between India and Kashmir:

An Anglo-Brazilian collaboration between Adriano Ribeiro and ex-Haken bassist Tom MacLean, Athemon reside at the intersection between dynamic prog and traditional doom; imagine if Dvne wrote a Candlemass album, or if Boss Keloid got into gothic prog-doom. The riffs are enormous, the drumming is thunderous and the bass is sublime; but it’s Ribeiro’s mountainous baritone that steals the show. EVERYONE should give these guys a listen. Their self-titled debut is a unique masterpiece, absolutely worthy of AOTY consideration, and it’s available for a name-your-price fee on Bandcamp.

smalltape is the project of German multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer Philipp Nespitals. There’s as much jazz, classical and electronic influence in here as there is rock, even some rap on one track. Piano drives the compositions as often as guitar (often acoustic), while strings, synth and brass accompany the tracks, and transcendent sax, guitar and keyboard solos top it all off. It’s Steven Wilson’s brand of prog meets some jazz influence with a bit of Radiohead and Oceansize for good measure. 2021’s The Hungry Heart is as breathtaking as previous album The Ocean.

Faerun in the city of Waterdeep the next day.
Lilith arrived in her room in the basement of the Tower of Rest with many guests in tow. She had teleported them to the Blackstaff Tower teleportation circle and then directly to her room in the basement of the Tower of Rest.
“This way out to the common room, if you don’t mind.” Lilith said as she pointed out the door.
Celeste lead the group out but many of them knew the way and exited up the stairs. Brothers Amon and Feldin immediately began going up the stairs followed shortly by Father Trendel. This left just Celeste, Wendel and a very cranky Corporal.
“Now where are we going? The troops are almost done with their lunch break and will be ready to move again pretty soon.”
Lilith was well rested. She had spent the night eating and drinking with Bindi, Kevin, Celeste and Sharl as they talked about the battle and the heroics of Lathander and Celeste as they fought side by side. They had spent the night in an actual Palace in a giant bed that both her and Kevin could sleep in with room to spare. She had a wonderful breakfast made to order by unseen servants and a calm morning spent catching up with Lady Morwen and Sir Tanel.
But even with all that behind her, Corporal Hayes was starting to get on her nerves. “Now, we wait. I am sure you are familiar with the exercise.”
“How long?” he asked pointedly.
“Just a few minutes while Father Trendel alerts the staff and gets the campus ready to receive eight hundred soldiers and forty or so wagons. They have to cancel some events and open the gates and alert the town guards to hold traffic for the returning army you know the usual stuff. Just sit and relax.” Lilith said as she moved into the common room to find a place to sit.
“I am sorry its just this seems almost like a dungeon and I would just feel better above ground.” the Corporal stated as he paced around the room finally deciding to sit as he sees her take a seat.
“I know I haven’t had time to install any windows yet it is a bit oppressive in here with only the crystals to light the place.” Lilith said as she looked around the room from the comfort of her favorite love seat.
Wanting to be helpful Celeste cast the Daylight spell illuminating the stone walls and the faded decorative rugs in brighter light than they deserved.
