A list of puns related to "Information Commissioner's Office"
I posted this on /r/smallbusiness as I didn't realise there was a UK centric sub, I can't crosspost it for some reason...
I have received a rather threatening letter from the ICO demanding payment (annually). After looking into this it seems they are sending these out to pretty much every business not registered with them as a fund raising exercise.
The circumstances that require paying them a fee seem absolutely ridiculous and far from clear. Using a CCTV camera?
I obviously adhere to GDPR regulations as is required, what exactly do they provide for their fee? Is this just another way for the government to raise money by squeezing small business?
I could probably make an argument for not needing to register, they recommend paying a "data protection fee" even if you're exempt and there are fines if you don't pay up, their interpretation could obviously be different than mine and there is no way to verify this before they decide you should have paid and fine you.
>We publish some of the information you provide on the register of controllers. If you use a domestic address and do not wish this to be included on the register, which is public on our website, please provide a PO Box or alternative address
WTF!? You want me to pay for a PO Box so you don't publish my home address on the internet? What about protecting MY data...
Bunch of bureaucratic bullshit and scare tactics.
Is everybody here (in the UK) registering/registered?
Edited to add: The fee is likely to be fairly small (the letter claims Β£40-Β£60 per year), the problem I have with paying this is it sets a precedent, once I pay I have admitted I'm legally required to do so and what's to stop them deciding the fee is Β£400-Β£600 next year once everyone's locked in.
