"implosive" /ʼm/, /ʼl/, /ʼh/ in Dàgáárè?

Wikipedia lists the implosives /ʼm/ /ʼl/ /ʼh/ among the consonant phonemes of Dàgáárè. the source given is A dictionary and grammatical sketch of Dagaare. searching through the pdf, the only mention of these phonemes i can find is a single sentence:

> The glottal implosive counterparts of /h/, /l/ and /m/ are attested only in the Northern dialect of the language (spoken mostly in Burkina Faso and called Dagara); the Southern and Central dialects do not have them.

PHOIBLE lists the consonants /ɦ/ and /lʔ/ (but no /mʔ/) instead, which i assume correspond to the "implosives" in this other source.

this claim is also contradicted by the Wikipedia page on implosives, which says:

> Individual tokens of glottalized sonorants (nasals, trills, laterals, etc.) may also be pronounced with a lowering of the glottis by some individuals, occasionally to the extent that they are noticeably implosive, but no language is known where implosion is a general characteristic of such sounds.

which of these sources is correct? is it possible that these sounds really are consistently pronounced as implosives despite being sonorants?

Cool-Sounding Languages with Implosives

In terms of their phonetic and phonological characteristics, I find implosives fascinating, and I would like to add them to one of my conlangs in the future. The problem is that I honestly think they sound kind of ridiculous (I know this is subjective but that’s my honest opinion). Do y’all know of any languages (real or constructed) where implosives are incorporated into the phonology and sound really cool? Send me some of your favorite languages with implosives! That way I can get a good idea of what other sounds to pair them with to make their sound likable to me.

Ejectives and Implosives

Some quick questions about them

  1. why is a voiced implosive possible while a ejective is impossible because its basically pronounced in the same way except that the glottis is raised in an ejective while its the opposite for impl
  2. How do languages get them? one way in which a language develops an eje is from germinated consonants for eg [p:] → [pʼ] rare but possible (tho only languages spoken high altitude arid places usually develop an eje), with impl and other ways for ejes?
  3. why are voiced Implosives more common than voiceless ones when they are easier to pronounce? for example the
  4. Is it possible for an eje to develop into an impl or vice versa?

This isnt a question but there are languages which have both eje and impl almost all of them are in Sub-Saharan Africa and Central America (only in Guatemala and Mex if im correct) (eg Oromo [tʼ] [ᶑ] Mam (Cen ame) [ʠ] [tsʼ] etc)

another question why hasnt [ ᶑ ] already been added to the chart? (its voiceless version doesnt even have a symbol) (before you say that its rare, we once had a [ ƙ ] symbol even tho it isnt found in any language)

Just love it when you wait for 3 days and get no replies

How to deal with lowkey implosive anger, Like the kind where you stay mad about something long after it's over?

I'm 28T and have been dealing with a lot of issues relationships and introspection lately. I made a post a while back explaining how I seem to enjoy unfair victories in my life more than most things and how more often than not struggling for my accomplishments sours the victory.

A friend suggested that I may have an anger issue that's affecting this aspect of my life. The reasoning behind this statement was that remaining angry about the struggles you go through after they've ended is abnormal and it may be affecting my ability to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Often when a hard days work is finished or a project is completed I do stop feeling angry, but what I feel about those accomplishments isn't happiness, it's just "not angry anymore". Other times I feel the need to vent about the challenge for a long time, and take offense to people congratulating me for finishing it.

I really don't know what to do

Implosive/Nasal Harmony

My consonant inventory is as follows:

/p t c k/

/pʷ tʷ cʷ kʷ/

/ɓ ɗ ʄ ɠ/

/m n ɳ ŋ/

/f ʃ x/

/ʃʷ xʷ/

/l j/

/w lʷ jʷ/

I want to include some kind of consonant harmony between implosives and nasals. Would this be feasible? If so, how should I implement it?

TIFU by igniting a tube of implosive gas next to my head.

This happened around 9 hours ago, and I still have that post-concert-mildy-concerning ring in my ears.

To preface, I work for a small health-sciences company, which occasionally obtains interesting (usually unstudied) new tech. The relevant technology to this story is a gas generation device that creates a water-derived gas that the inventor has yet to identify. It's some state of gaseous hydrogen and oxygen with strange chemical properties (strange to me, at least, but I'm not great with chemistry). It has some biomedical uses, apparently, but I'm more fascinated by it's behavior when ignited. Run it through a welding torch, and it burns with an intense, bright purple, weirdly narrow flame, which ultimately condenses back to liquid water. It seems to be mostly self-reacting, imploding from a gas to a liquid directly. Anyway, the important point is that it implodes upon ignition.

This machine has been sitting unused for a while. Having a reputation as a capable tinkerer, I was tasked with checking it's functionality. I got it set up, powered it on, and connected a tiny jeweler's torch to the outline. Unfortunately, the rate at which the gas is produced is much faster than the rate that it can escape the torch head. The gas runs through a big plexiglass tube partially filled with water, for various reasons, and my temporary solution for the build-up of pressure was to leave the lid of this tube somewhat loose. Not ideal, but I was just testing it briefly.

At this point, I spark the torch and get a beautiful little flame. Testing successful! I waited for a minute to make sure it was stable, and then shut the valve on the torch head really quickly. I had determined in the past that this was an effective shut-off procedure, and it seemed to work safely. There was the usual pop as the gas in the nozzle finished reacting, and then nothing. At this point, I was confident that the risk of implosive flashback was in the past. The rest can be seen in the gif. After a delay of a few seconds, there was a louder pop, and a bright flash in the clear section of the line. I think, "close call — I'm not sure how that happened, but at least it didn't reach the plexiglass chamber." I start to consider detaching the torch line, and then I'm suddenly turned away from the machine with a scary combination of nothing and everything ringing in my ears.

According to my coworkers, it sounded like a shotgun. The lid of the tube shot off, and the cylindrical walls snapped clean
