Tonight, the Wizards will start Isaiah Thomas, Gary Payton II, Troy Brown Jr, Johnathon Williams, and Ian Mahinmi

Isaiah Thomas season averages: 13.6/4.8/1.7
Gary Payton II season averages: 10.0/5.0/8.0 (although he did just get called up from the g-league and has played only two games this season)
Troy Brown Jr season averages: 9.4/2.3/5.4
Johnathon Williams season averages: 9.0/8.0/2.0 (has played one game this season)
Ian Mahinmi season averages: 7.4/1.0/5.9

This lineup is evidently awful and is one of the worst starting lineups in recent memory, but who knows, since they're playing the Knicks tonight, the Wizards might just fuck around and win

Washington is paying Ian Mahinmi and Otto Porter a combined $41,956,067. Their combined output this season: 12.9/8.2/1.4

Their stats together make a Jonas Valanciunas. Jonas is playing less than 20mpg as a spot starter averaging 12.7/8.5/1.5

Now originally this was just supposed to be a post dedicated to Ian Mahinmi but Porter should be included, not as a player failure particularly like Ian but to represent a much larger systemic organizational failure brought on by Ernie Grunfeld and Scott Brooks.

Heres the Mahinmi disaster

Ian Mahinmi's numbers:

$15,944,154/yr. His stats this season as a starter pre-Dwight Howard's return: 2.3pts/3reb/0.8ast/0.5tov/3.3pfs in 13mpg on 36.3 TS%

He is currently averaging 9 Personal Fouls Per36. For context he has averaged 7pf's Per 36 in his tenure with Washington

His shooting numbers of 25/0/50 also puts him in the pretty exclusive Kyle "those numbers dont even add up to 100" Singler club https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/3vqw8w/kyle_singler_is_the_worst_player_in_the_nba_and/

His Win Shares Per 48 is 2.8% League Average is 10%

He has a VORP of 0.0. You know who had a 0.0 VORP last season? Ivica Zubac

With Dwight Howard coming back, I think we will see Mahinmi completely fall out Washington's rotation putting them on the hook for 16M over the next 2 years for a replacement level player

Otto Porter:

Otto hasnt been as bad but is struggling as well and is not getting incorporated into Washington's offense like 3rd option he should be/is getting paid to be.

$26,011,913/yr 10.6pts/5.2reb/0.6ast on 51.6 TS%

In Washington's system this year, he is averaging 9.4 field goal attempts. Which, for context, is lower than the below selection of players: Josh Okogie (10.3), Garret Temple (9.8), JJ Barea (9.6), Derrick Rose (13), Kris Dunn (13), Damyeon Dotson who the fuck is Damyeon Dotson (11.8), Bryn Forbes (11.8), Javale McGee (11.6), TRoss (10.8)

Wow, this is truly insane. I don't know if I've seen anything like it, they are all absolutely scorching the Heat right now. Even more impressive given the Wizards incredible slew of injuries.

Can someone explain/breakdown Ian Mahinmi?

I havent been able to watch alot of full wizards games, but I know alot of people in here don't like Ian Mahinmi. But i was watching Heat vs Wizards from couple days ago and Mahinmi seemed to be pretty decent: was efficient, had a couple of defensive plays and made some shots from deep.

Can someone ELI5 what he does well, what he can improve on and why alot of people wanted him gone?

Bright side of NBA suspending the season, I don't have to watch Ian Mahinmi anymore

On the bright side of the NBA suspending the season, I don't have to watch Ian Mahinmi anymore. I don't think he was 100% terrible, but I believe the deal Ernie Grunfeld signed him for was god awful and seriously put us into a bind for signing other potential future players. Sure I don't mind if we resign him with the veteran minimum, would prefer we didn't. But watching this bum miss easy buckets at the rim or clumsy turnovers will be something I will not miss. Even though he was good for a couple fouls here and there, here's to never seeing Mahinmi in a wizards uniform again!

Cheers!

Be safe my fellow wizkids!

The only members of the 2011 Mavericks championship team are JJ Barea, Tyson Chander, and... Ian Mahinmi

EDIT: r/titlegore'd it... should say "The only members [...] still in the league are [...]".

JJ, 35, has been beasting for the Mavs in limited minutes, currently shooting 59% from 3, and he's the only member of the team still on the Mavs, even though he had a brief stint in Minnesota. JJ was arguably in his prime last year and the season or so before, putting up career-best numbers before his Achilles tear in January (coincidentally, against Minnesota). After coming back, he's been playing in just a few games (Carlisle load managing him for the yoffs), but he has been very good in those games.

Tyson Chandler, 37, is currently on the Rockets. While his numbers are small, seems like he's a good veteran presence for them, and the Rockets present a decent chance for him to win another ring with a Texas team.

And Ian Mahinmi, 33, is still on the Wizards after being given an essentially untradeable 64M contract in 2016 that only expires in 2020, and has only played 2 games for them this year. Nonetheless, I like how he ended up having a long 13-year (at least) career despite only putting up over 5.8 ppg in one season (not including his 2 game campaign of this season).

Ian Mahinmi has played 8 total minutes in the month of February.

Ian Mahinmi is completely healthy, on a team who only has 1 other healthy center on the roster in Thomas Bryant, who only averages 19 minutes a game. Despite all of this, he has somehow only managed to play in 1 game this month, for a total of 8 minutes, and in the game of course he grabbed only 1 rebound (he did have 5 points though!). In the other 8 games, he received a DNP-CD. What this means, is that he is being paid $16 million to do absolutely nothing. I am not calling for Mahinmi to get minutes or anything, don't get me wrong, he is horrible. But this really puts into perspective how much this guy sucks and how godawful this contract is.

This is a team where WESLEY JOHNSON gets 18 minutes a game (screw Troy Brown I guess?), and for some reason he and Jeff Green see time at center, and Mahinmi still can't find the court.

This has to be one of worst contracts in NBA history. Mahinmi is injury prone and 32 now, so its not like there is any hope for a breakout or progression. I've seen some bad players and bad contracts in my time as a Wizards fan, but this definitely has to rank near the top.

Thoughts on trading Ian Mahinmi and 2 second round picks for Jabari Parker

Ian sucks, and Jabari sucks slightly less. Ian's so bad that he's literally unplayable while Jabari could at least get some buckets for us and help shore up a big man rotation.

But the real kicker is Jabari has a team option for next year so he'd help clear salary quickly.

I'm interested in hearing what ya'll think, whether we would need to add more assets or see if we could get more salary cleared out, or whether even 2 2nd rounders is an over pay to clear cap space.
