Hi everyone, Junior HR here, since covid hit we've been having meetings two times a month with every team (5-10 people per team) in the company, so we don't get estranged. The meetings are pretty casual, it's 30 mins to share whatever you want with the HR or your team. Everyone kinda hates these meetings because they turn into a lot of awkward silence, and we quickly go through the 'how are you, wife, husband, kids, pets' questions. I'm the host of these, but I struggle with finding topics to talk about. I was thinking that maybe we should have a theme/topic for each week, but I can't seem to think of anything, so I'd like some help from more experienced HRs.
Keep in mind that we're an IT company, and quite a few of the empoyees are shy and awkward, but they're not haters, they do answer when asked.

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to read this. I got hired to pretty much be the HR for a local small business. I have a degree for HR however, I do not have a mentor or anyone to lean on. I am just asking for some advice and what kind of forums should I have handy for employees hurt on the job, and types of background screening. Should I be using a 3rd party for documentation or do I just CCAP them? Thank you

Iβve been watching professional league since nigh itβs inception, and worlds has always been dope. In the beginning there was only a few regions competing which made it easy to track which teams were from where. (I was also younger which meant more free time.)
As the years have gone on, more and more teams from varying regions have been invited to compete. Thatβs fantastic! Iβm so glad that this game is reaching more places. However, with adulthood grabbing me by the balls, I donβt nearly have enough time to research and watch all the teams that are competing, hell, I barely have time to watch my own region.(NAWILDCARD) Which leads to me to have constantly look up where every team that I donβt immediately recognize is from.
Does anyone else think a nice QOL update to worlds would be to place the teams region underneath the team name?
WarHogs: Because war is what a football game is. And Hogs gives props to the Redskins offensive line in the 80's and 90's. This gives historical context to this team. And it's badass as hell. You're not going to beat a team called the WarHogs.
I'm French, been working in an American company for a few months as part of my post-grad studies. My name's Michel, pronounced the same as the American name Michelle.
When I arrived in the US, I was worried to overstep boundaries, and I wasn't confident in my English skills, so I let people speak over me a lot. A few coworkers tripped over my name at first, but almost all of them learned the proper pronunciation quickly. All except John. John is a senior employee, I guess in his 60s, with a pretty bombastic and loud demeanor, the kind who will slap your back hard and laugh out loud at his own jokes. I'm not a fan of John. Especially since he decided that my name is "Mitch."
At first, I let it go because I thought John genuinely struggled to pronounce Michel. But after a couple months, I heard him mention Michelle Obama - I couldn't believe it at first when he just pronounced my name perfectly. I pointed it out excitedly, "This is my name! See, you can say it right!" But he countered with "It's a woman's name!" I said I don't care, it's my name, in my culture it's not female, please pronounce it right. He essentially waved it off with "Sure thing, Mitch, hahaha!"
Since then, as I grew bolder and more confident in this new environment, I have asked him a couple more times to call me Michel, not Mitch. Both times, he deflected my request and kept calling me Mitch. I sent him a formal mail asking him to please call me by my actual name, but that mail went unanswered.
It's not the end of the world that John calls me Mitch, but it grates on my nerves a bit more every time, especially since he's the only one to refuse to use my actual name - and because he apparently tries to unilaterally "protect" me from being called what he deems a female name(?)
I am thinking about complaining to HR and force John to take the issue seriously by going through people whose requests he can't just ignore to their faces. At the same time, I am afraid to appear like a petty, belligerent asswipe if I do over a "mere" mispronunciation of my name. Thoughts?
Sure you might lose a couple games here and there letting Mookie just absolutely obliterate balls into the stratosphere, but if there was a $1 Billion bonus for doing so, why would a team like the Yankees (who play the Red Sox 18 times per year) not just force feed Mookie cupcakes Kelvin Benjamin style?
If you were to tell me the Red Sox would win the division for one year but the following year they would cease to exist, I'd take that in a heart beat. Playing 18 games per year, if Mookie hits 4 HRs per game against the Yankees, that alone is 72 HRs. All he would need in the remaining 144 games is to hit 28 HRs to cash in and never worry about money again. If he was struggling to do so, I'm sure a division rival like the Rays or Jays would help...and let's not forget the Orioles already tried this strategy last year with Gleyber Torres but the clause was not active in his contract.
Would this be the best strategy or is there another way to go about this?
