Alabama unsolved murder (Johne Hoover) from 2004 (possibly drug related)

New here. This case has always sparked my interest because I knew the victim personally and had literally just seen him a couple days before his murder.

He was no saint. However he didn't deserve to die like he did. I have heard stories through the grapevine about him going across the state line into GA into a well known moonshine/drugs/illegal activity community known as "Esom Hill, GA". This is one of those places that is quite rural and it is rumored that federal agents don't even like sniffing around there. Located in Polk County GA.

Anyway supposedly he drove over there to rob some oxycontin dealers and it backfired on him. What happened next is unclear but he was found that same morning (June 22 2004) off of highway 9 in Hollis Crossroads (Cleburne county AL) decapitated with his jeep cherokee on fire.

I had heard the robbery story through friends loosely affiliated with the people who may have commited the crime. Unfortunately one of the friends who knew alot is dead now and one other would never come forward with info.

I'm just curious as to why it has never been solved and if any sleuths on here would be interested in researching it. I don't have the time to do it personally.

I copied text from an article and his obituary and will post it below.

"Investigators have identified the body of a man found in a burning Vehicle in Cleburne County early Tuesday morning as John William "Johne" Hoover, 21, of Munford and Alexandria. The case is being investigated as a homicide, according to Capt. Joe Nabors of the Alabama Bureau of Investigations. Nabors declined to provide details of the investigation.

MUNFORD β€” Funeral service for Johne Hoover, 21, will be Sunday, June 27, at 3 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home chapel in Anniston with the Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery.

Mr. Hoover died June 22 in Cleburne County. He was a native of Calhoun County and was a resident of Alexandria, Anniston and Munford. He was a 2002 graduate of Alexandria High School. He was an outstanding athlete known for his outstanding football abilities. He was a member of Alexandria Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Naomi Watts.

He is survived by his father, John Whitten Hoover; his mother, Glenda Gail Hoover; brother, Jamin William Hoover; his grandparents, John L. Hoover and Ferndell W. Hoover; five aunts; one uncle; and several cousins.

Knowing someone with BPD can cause unimaginable pain. You may find my story relatable (two weeks post discard/hoover).

Imagine pouring your heart into someone for an extended period of time (in my case, just over half a year).

Suddenly, they disappear out of your life and it is gut-wrenching. Even though they damaged your soul with lies, manipulation and games, you remember the beautiful moments more than anything.

You focus on those good times, even if it does make you feel like death.

Eating becomes difficult. Sleep is near impossible. Your heart pumps faster and louder than it does after a sprint. Your family begins to worry about you. Your friends back off. When someone shows interest in you, you shut them down. Getting close to people feels wrong. The doctor tells you you are depressed. They hand you a note of therapists to consider contacting. You start to feel bipolar.

...

Fast forward.

Time progresses. Slowly but surely, you are beginning to let go. That person is always in your head and heart though, no matter what. It is not easy and feels like drug withdrawal. Some days are much worse than others.

Then out of nowhere, they come back.

An emotional whirlwind hits you all at once.

You’re scared, confused, upset and angry. Yet what beats all of those emotions? Relief. They’re back. How can one human stir you up this much?

You cave in and accept them because deep down, your love never changed for them. It is undying.

You see them 3 weeks in a row. It’s like they’re a different person. Things are more than perfect. Each week is better than the last. You’re holding out for every Saturday to spend time with them again.

Even after everything that occurred in the past, you begin to open up and trust them. You have to, for your own mental health.

You laugh a lot. You share food. You listen to your favourite songs together. Sex makes you feel an even deeper bond with them. For the first time in months, there’s genuine happiness in your life.

You wake up with excitement on a Thursday. You can’t wait to talk to them. You think about making something beautiful for them, like a poem. At last, you get to see them on Saturday. It’s like Christmas is around the corner and you’re a child again.

That same day, everything crumbles apart. The Christmas tree has been packed up.

The person you’re dying to talk is gone.

Their morning message feels cold. You can’t even try to change their mind because it is set.

Nothing has changed for you. Nothing is different. For them, everything has changed. You did nothing wrong, but your existence to them no

Contrasting 'It Ends With Us' by Colleen Hoover and 'Surviving Raine' by Shay Savage in relation to the portrayal of abusive behavior.

Spoiler ahead.

In 'Surviving Raine', they are strangers stuck with each other on a boat after a ship wreck. Sebastian, being an alcoholic now in withdrawal, during an episode, verbally abuses Raine and even hits her once. After they talk about the incident, she is sympathetic to him and even builds up a relationship with him later on. She compares him to the animals - dogs - she has worked with when he asks her why wouldn't she leave him alone when he was violent : β€œPart of the rehabilitation for the dogs was to handle them a lot,” Raine explained.Β  β€œAt first they would growl and snap.Β  I got bit more than once.Β  Eventually, you hoped they would get used to it and end up…well, liking it.”

In 'It Ends With Us', they are in a relationship already and living together. Ryle, because of his past trauma which leads to him suffering from rages, brutally assaults Lily. Here after they talk about the incident, even though she sympathises with him, she does not go back to him : "I cry for Ryle. Because even though he’s responsible for the situation he’s in, I know how sad he is about it. And when you love someone, seeing them sad also makes you sad."

IMHO, 'It Ends With Us' subverts the conventional grovel trope when the main character in this story refuses to take the love interest back after his transgression, to put it mildly.

(Though there are two love interests in 'It Ends With Us', but Ryle's presence is more dominating than Atlas's, which is what makes the story so poignant because the reader does not expect Ryle's character - that seems like that of a typical romance hero - to take such a course.)

A side note - I have only read the first book of the 'Surviving Raine' duology.

Thoughts? About either of the books? About the grovel trope? About the portrayal of abusive behavior in romance books?

Be safe everyone and (for those who were in a romantic abusive relation) prepare for hoovering attempts

And don't feel badly if you don't receive a hoover attempt.

Hoovering is not 'proof' of love.

All it means is that you are on their mind and they don't care about your boundaries...as usual.

I hope you spend today appreciating the way love - real love that appreciates who you are and not how you 'make' someone feel - shows up in your life.

Or the ways you create it.

Love is not real if you can't choose it.

Destroying someone's free will to control them (whether it is to make the abuser feel more 'secure' in the relationship or what) denies love.

Abuse hijacks love and then destroys it.

Herbert Hoover wrote a book on mining in 1909 where he included thoughts on the relative work rates of employees of different races (e.g. a white laborer could shovel as much as 2 or 3 non-white laborer). Were such prejudices used in practical calculations in early 20th century industry?

I was reading about Herbert Hoover and came across this description of his writing:

>Among the book’s idiosyncratic touches is Hoover’s attempt to end discussion of the capacity of different races of workers, a common debating point in early 20th century mining, by quantifying a racial productivity gap. He deemed one white worker equal to two or three of the colored races in simple tasks like shoveling, and as high as one to eleven in the most complicated mechanical work.

Would industrialists and engineers actually include specific quantification when planning projects, or was that mostly an informal debate? For example, did the planners for the Panama canal or Ford Assembly lines adjust allocation of labor hours depending on the racial makeup of the workers? How would they reconcile their racial beliefs with contrary results?

(Personally, I think there's pretty obvious non-racial reasons why Hoover found poorly paid Chinese laborers in a colonial setting to be less motivated and productive than his white employees. I'm just surprised that racial prejudices were included in a textbook setting).

Can we coin a new term? TSMIL (time suck MIL)

I'll preface this by saying that I know I'm lucky MIL wise in comparison to some people on this sub, but need to rant/vent whatever because my MIL behavior is making it miserable to spend time with an otherwise sweet person...she is an intentional time suck. No amount of time for a gathering is ever enough..if she feels it winding down it becomes her mission to draw it out as long as possible to the point where she isn't even spending quality time anymore....just going through theatrics to draw it out and it makes my blood boil.

Examples: We were eating at a restaurant for their anniversary. I was already annoyed cause I had a really rough week, busy day of stuff around the house and Sunday was going to be my one relaxation day...but my wife kept saying it's just a quick lunch at outback....WRONG. The whole thing was a masterclass in dragging out lunch. Of course we order apps... not sure what ones..oh can you give us a minute. Finally get those and she has to order something not on the menu that requires a whole back and forth with the waiter and staff.. eat slower than molasses and as everyone is gearing up to get the check boxes and bounce....'WHO WANTS DESSERT??". No one does...we all say no we're good..."We'll I wanna get a dessert...can I see a dessert menu??"..."we're not sure yet can you give us another minute...are you guys SURE you don't want a dessert when he comes back??"...FINALLY we get through dessert the waiter is coming seeing if we need the check..."A cup of coffee would be nice...anyone else want some coffee maybe??? no just me....oh that's fine we'll wait for a fresh pot". All in all this lunch lead to us being in a booth in an outback FOR OVER THREE HOURS!!! I'm surprised we didn't get a new waiter as at one point I figured we crossed shift change...but child's play compared to when we get trapped in...LUNCH AT THE HOUSE.

Lunches at the house are generally 5 hour events...MINIMUM...add to that it's 45 mins there and back it will consume the whole damn day. And of course we're seeing them for lunch on Thanksgiving, dinner on Christmas eve, Easter, her birthday, FIL birthday, my wife's birthday, mothers day, fathers day, NYD lunch, 4th of July, fuck I'm shocked she hasn't thrown an Arbor day lunch. I refuse to go there or have her over for Christmas day...that's been my hill despite MANY guilt trips...I just fucking refuse. I need one holiday that isn't totally sucked up by this woman. Anyway an example of house time sucking:

What happened to Joshua Guimond?-Mysterious Disappearence

Joshua Guimond, a third-year student at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, attended a party with some of his friends on Saturday night, November 9, 2002. It was a small gathering of less than 10 people, and was held in a Metten Court dormitory. Josh left the room just before midnight, and friends of his assumed he was heading down the hall to use the bathroom. When he didn't come back after 15 minutes, they wondered if he'd decided to go back to his apartment on campus. They tried to call him there; when they got no answer, they thought he was already asleep. Josh wasn't sleeping though, and he never came back to his apartment. He was never seen again.

Josh grew up in Maple Lake, Minnesota. He majored in political science at St. John's and was a popular student with many friends. St. John's was a rather small school, with about 1850 students. Located 120 kilometers northwest of Minneapolis, it provided a peaceful and quiet learning environment. Surrounded by acres of woods and several lakes, students used to joke that they were separated from the rest of society by a pine curtain. They saw their campus as a utopian place and rarely thought about security.

Josh planned a future in politics after graduation. He was the treasurer of the Pre-Law Society and co-captain of the university's mock trial team. A student of excellence, he was considered responsible, logical and very organized. He taught other students and loved to spend hours debating political and legal issues. His grandmother had served two terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives, and Josh wanted to follow in her footsteps. He even used β€œSenator Josh” as his email name.

THE DISAPPEARENCE

Josh spent the afternoon before the party working on an article he was writing about Alexander Hamilton. He then relaxed with some friends in his apartment for a few hours, drinking beer and talking about the future. Around 11 pm, the group decided to meet up with some other friends, so they left Josh's apartment at St. Maur House and walked the short distance across campus to Metten Court. There, they continued drinking beer and playing cards. Friends saw Josh leave the room about 30 minutes after he arrived and assumed he was just leaving to use the bathroom. No one has reported seeing Josh leaving Metten Court, and no one remembers seeing him walking back to his apartment. His movements after he left his friend's room are completely unknown.

Josh was scheduled to

And I probably won't get a hoover. Some might say that I'm lucky but the silent treatment from so many people really hurt me for a long time. I was a filmmaker working on government cover-ups. The terrifying truth can never be shown

There are lots of things about being old that are absolute garbage. Every day, a new part of me seems to hurt and I have one speed: slow.

But there is also a sense of liberation. I finally feel free to tell the truth.

After so many years of being tormented by lies, I can’t begin to tell you how good this feels.

The first lie – the one that began it all – came in a small, windowless room in an anonymous looking office block.

I was fresh out of film school. I was ambitious, bursting with ideas. I was ready for success.

I was also thousands of dollars in debt.

I needed a job – and when I saw an advert for a filmmaker role my depressing visions of stacking shelves or serving burgers and fries faded away.

It was described as working with a new company based in a city near my home, the starting salary was sweet, more than enough for me to begin digging myself out of my financial hole, and candidates had to have experience working on documentaries.

As I sat in that small room, I thought of the film scripts I had written, of the dramatic short I had directed. Of the way my imagination had always been praised by my tutors.

I was all about the fictional.

The door opened and two men walked in. They both wore beige suits and neither had a necktie. I could not decide if I was overdressed or underdressed in my denim shirt and skinny black tie.

They thanked me for coming today, and Beige suit #1 began the interview by asking:

β€œHow would you sum up your filmmaking?”

β€œI am all about the documentary,” I replied.

He smiled.

I was acing this.

Beige suit # 2 then asked, β€œCan you describe your most recent filmmaking project to us?”

I thought back to my short: β€˜Girl meets boy. Boy meets alien. Love is strange’.

Then I answered: β€œI recorded the life of a young man over the course of twenty-four hours. I wanted to show the truths that society forces men to mask. Their insecurity, their pain, their weakness,”

I was pretty pleased with that off the cuff fiction. I gave myself nine out of ten.

It looked like both Beige suits were impressed.

Beige suit # 1 asking, β€œHow long was the finished film?”

Beige suit # 2 following straight after with, β€œIs there anything you did not include, any truths that were too raw?”

Thinking on all ten of my toes at once I went right back to them with:

β€œNinety minutes,” and β€œNo.”

Their faces fell as one. Two mouths drooped, two heads leant forwards and both made notes.

Damn, I thought, what had I said wrong? Ninety minutes was lo

Your goals & plans for 2022

I thought it would be interesting to see where everyone's at and what your plans are for 2022.

I can start.

My main goal is to get to 10k EUR a month and also get my new project off the ground.

My sites have been hoovering between 5-8k a month consistently during 2021. Mainly due to issues with affiliates who either dropped off, lowered commissions or turned out to cut sales from people. This resulted in neither increase nor decrease in revenue during the year.

Two months ago, I started a new project that will be my biggest one to date. It's a broad site with several big non-related categories. Kinda like a magazine. Initially, I will spend around 10k EUR on links in the first few months of the year. I already bought links for 5k, so I might have to increase that budget.

The biggest issue I'm facing, and always have, is finding good writers. My country is small, and the writers are awful and expensive. Throughout the years, I have been finding writers from numerous platforms, but it always ended up the same - low quality.

At the end of 2021 I bought a bunch of articles from all over the place. Writers I found on Facebook, content mills and so son. In general, I paid around 50-60€ per 500-700 words. None of them could be published. It took longer to edit them than if I had written them myself. Really disappointing.

But, I'd say I'm a writer by trade. I can write ok and I write fast. So I will write most of the content myself to start with. In the past months, I have chugged out around 3000-4000 words per day.

It's definitely a drawback and not something I will do forever. I need to distance myself by automatization and creating systems. Instead of having a production role, I need a manager position to free up more time. I would rather spend time with my kid and wife than writing articles.

But to my advantage, all my competitors have poor quality content, and they don't publish as often as me. Instead of buying low quality articles for big amounts of money, I can invest it in links - unlike my competition.

For this new website, I will also create activity on different platforms, even if I don't gain traction from it. Rather, I just want to send signals and awareness to Google that the brand is also publishing content on Youtube, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. It will only take around 45-60 minutes every other day to do that - so it's not consuming much time. Every big brand do it, so I must do it as well.

The goal is to make the site a househo

DAE family act like β€œlove” excuses all problems?

I’m nc with my nparents and vlc with most of my biological family. My nparents still hoover and don’t accept that I don’t want them to contact me. They still do (I ignore), and also get other relatives to β€œcheck-in” on me.

For the record, I’m thankfully, have been employed at the same company for 5 years, have a supportive community of friends, go to therapy, and am extremely cautious about health/safety these days. Also in my 30s.

My nparents are covert and adored by others. They believe in a false narrative of me, which they use to discredit me. They bully, humiliate, gaslight, manipulate, mock, control, insult and so much more…under the guise of love.

Lately, the messaging I get from my relatives (that I’m starting to see as flying monkeys), is β€œknow that you are loved.” For some reason, that shit makes me so angry. How is humiliating me love? How does gaslighting me count as love? How is punishing me when I speak about my valid feelings, love?

Why does everyone try to convince me to believe β€œI am loved,” instead of fixing the behavior that caused me to go nc?

Love doesn’t justify bad behavior, traumatizing behavior. Also, what makes them so sure they are the only ones who love me? My friends love me, the way I deserve to be loved. For me β€œlove” isn’t enough, I need respect, kindness, compassion, empathy, honesty, transparency, consistency, and patience. My family’s β€œlove” is not that.

1928 Democratic National Convention | Yet Another Alternate Elections Series

Some big polls coming up today, due to the series' mini hiatus for a few days.

Ah the Democrats. Once losing in a landslide to Republican Candidates, now posing a real threat to them. The Election of 1924 has proven to the Democrats that they can still win the Presidency.

Governor Al Smith of New York

Al Smith, the third placer in 1924, has made the decision to run for President once again. With Underwood and McAdoo rejecting to run for President again, many see him as the presumptive nominee, but we'll see how things play out. Position wise, Smith is much like Underwood. Heavy opponent to both the KKK and Prohibition. However, Smith is a dirty catholic, which will turn off some voters. Otherwise he is a safe, but sort of boring, candidate, with appeal to the north.

Senator Walter F. George of Georgia

While certainly not a Progressive, Walter F. George of Georgia certainly does have some Progressive leanings. He currently supports Hoover' reforms, and the Senator would be a safe choice for the Democrats position wise, but is relatively unknown by most of the general public. This could both hurt and help George depending on what he does with it. On the other hand, he does oppose any sort of civil rights legislation, as he believes it violates the constitution.

Senator James A. Reed of Missouri

Senator Reed certainly is an unknown figure. Like many leading democrats currently, he opposes the KKK, but this does not mean that he is anti-racist. He once said that all non white people should not be allowed into the US, and supports restricting immigration. However, Reed was the only senator to vote against the Emergency Quota Act of 1921, which would've heavily restricted Immigration. So, yeah, he's quite the complicated figure. But, he's also experienced in economics. But we won't need experience in economics, the economy is booming!

Chairman Cordell Hull of Tennessee

Representative turned Chair of the Democratic National Committe

A Proposal for a Harrington Rework

I would like to bring forth what is basically a proposal for a Harrington rework. The objective here is to provide a good groundwork to build up a better Harrington than currently exists. First I will explain why I feel Harrington himself is lacking.

^(A brief note before I start, I have used some alternative NPP names and RD names for this, and that's because a lot of this development was done in the "The Union Forever" server. They have a few alternatives and lore changes. So you will say RD-D/RD-C, basically meaning democrats or conservatives, or NPPFR/NPPR which similarly just refers to the Far Right or the Right. Generally I went with the TNO base version, followed by the TNO TUF version, but my focus is working on this with the assumption that this rework can fit into the Vanilla. It's just TUF is very America-centric (it is literally a TNO United States submod) and provides a good base to help consider and learn about American politicians. Thanks to them for their advice in making this.)

Currently Harrington is I think portrayed in a somewhat bizarre manner. The man is portrayed as a radical just short of the NPPL, and only short by means of his emphasis on peaceful reform over violent revolution (a dubious distinction as well, given the NPPL though extreme, are also electoralists). He is certainly portrayed as very extreme, but as others on this reddit have noted, his programs barely go as far, in some places even short of figures like RFK, or Goldwater, who are liberals. He does not do much to build a meaningful socialism either, only really working on destroying poverty.

While that is commendable, it was not the only thing he did or worked for. He even feared that his legacy would be known solely by him being "the man who discovered poverty." Even more bizarre than this however, is how much backlash this all has, Harrington can break American society, cause Yockeys to roam the streets, lead America into the years of Lead, all while doing less in 8 years than LBJ can accomplish in four.

So, for this, I wanted to accomplish two main things.

  1. Harrington is to be made more clearly socialist, he will go further than RFK and LBJ in multiple places and enact reforms that are genuinely going to be controversial in multiple areas.
  2. Harrington himself will be made more moderate, have a more clear opposition to communisms (not socialism) which will play a larger part in his story.

Harrington can best be understood as a genteel labor socialist,

How is Caesar able to supply the Courier with so many supplies in the quest Caesar's Favor?

Once the Courier has gained a positive relation with the Legion, a disguised frumentarius approaches them and gives them the location of hidden supply cache boxes in order to encourage them to support the Legion. More boxes are unlocked the higher postive relationship the Courier has with the Legion.

The final box you get when you reach idolized has something like 2000 energy cells, 1000 electron charge packs 50 Stealthboys, 70 missiles, 1000 flamer fuel, and a ton of other ammunition. Remember that Caesar gives the Courier this every week.

Should the Fallout community accept this quest as a canonical representation of how supplied the Legion is over the NCR? I mean, Caesar does not forbid technology, he simply believes that his soldiers should not become over reliant on it. That's why we see lots of high rank legion soldiers use Anti-Material Rifles at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.

Can you imagine if during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, 50 Legionaries with stealth boys and missile launchers start blowing up the NCR. The NCR would lose their shit if they got blown to pieces by invisible people. They would run back all the way to California with their tail between their legs.

My personal theory (HEADCANNON) is that Caesar somehow found the hidden stash of stealth boys noted in the Stealthboy shipment update at REPCONN, meaning that he has 283 stealth boys. The infinite Stealthboys you get is for gameplay purposes, but he does in fact have the stash of stealth boys ready for usage. He probably also trades with the Boomers for missiles, and probably has a spy implanted at the Brotherhood of Steel to smuggle him the energy cells and electron packs, which like the stealth boys, are lower in quantity than showed.

Visual Code extensions to make it feel more like an IDE

Hello

Questions like these have been asked before, but are often phrased in a way that makes it sounds like they have options between IDE's. In my case im on Linux, so visual studio 2022 is out of the question, and don't personally feel like im in a position where i can shell out the money on a Rider subscription at this point in time, im no longer a student and thus can't get a free version, nor will my work sponsor a subscription.

This (as far as im aware) leaves me with 1 option, which is to use Visual Code.

Currently I have the following extensions installed.

  • .NET Core Test Explorer
  • Auto-Using for C#
  • C# (default extensions)
  • C# Extensions
  • C# Namespace Autocompletion
  • C# Snippets
  • Roslynator
  • Visual Studio Intellicode
  • Nuget Gallery
  • Vscode-solution-explorer
  • Git etc, but unrelated to the coding itself.

Although on paper this looks like it should cover the basics and provide a rather decent development environment, I keep putting off working on personal project due to the constant frustrations. These are some of the bigger issues i run into that i hope can be fixed by extensions im unaware off.

  1. Every new file is completely empty and requires the constant boiler plating to be added *e.g namespace, class etc)
  2. After installing nugets, vs code never recognizes any of the implementations, so calling any of the library methods, or models etc they all go unrecognized by vs code. For example having added entity framework core to a project, and overriding the OnModelCreating(ModelBuilder builder) (after manually adding the using statement for it) it doesn't show me any intelisense on the parameter "builder", nor does it show any info when hoovering over ModelBuilder.
  3. ctrl + . doesn't allow me to automatically set a using, meaning i need to find out what the correct using statements are, and add them manually.
  4. Intelisense sometimes show suggestions not even related to C# even though im in a .cs file.

These are the main once I ran into thus far. I will be honest and say i haven't worked with it much, so more issues might show, but thus far I never got more then an hour in before closing vs code out of frustration.

Im hoping that some of you might have experienced the same issues, and found some extensions im unaware of, or have some other tips that could solve my issues. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Bloomberg: China's Omicron Outbreak Is Bad News for the Global Supply Chain

(Bloomberg) -- An omicron outbreak in China is sending jitters through supply chains as manufacturers and shippers brace for disruption inside the world’s-biggest trading nation if it can’t contain the fast-spreading variant.

In 2020 and 2021, China’s β€˜covid-zero’ strategy meant factories could stay open throughout the pandemic to produce everything from health equipment to laptops that global consumers hoovered up at a record pace. But there’s been confirmed cases of local infection everyday since mid-October and it’s likely even tougher restrictions will be needed to curb omicron’s spread, with knock-on consequences for ports and factories as more cities lock down.

So far China’s not facing the problems seen elsewhere like shortages of some foods in Australia or Japan, or an estimated 5 million workers staying home sick in the U.S. last week. But with an end to β€˜covid-zero’ unlikely as China prepares to host the Winter Olympics next month and a series of political events later in the year, policy makers have to decide how much to increase restrictions, and consider how that will hit an already slowing economy and global trade.

β€œThe reality is that China remains the center of global manufacturing,”said Thomas O’Connor, a supply chain expert at Gartner Inc. in Sydney. β€œIf there was significant manufacturing or logistic shutdowns in China associated with covid-related challenges, that would have a massive impact on the global economic environment.”

In recent weeks, sporadic outbreaks scattered across the country of both the delta and omicron variants have already triggered shutdowns to clothing factories and gas deliveries around one of China’s biggest seaports in Ningbo, disruptions at computer chip manufacturers in the locked-down city of Xi’an, and a second city-wide lockdown in a different province Tuesday.

There are other cities nearby facing some restrictions, and authorities in the southern technology and manufacturing hub of Shenzhen tightened restrictions on vehicles entering the city Tuesday. That prompted concern about delays at nearby Yantian port, which is one of the biggest container ports in Asia and was partly closed for a month last year after an outbreak.

Trapped Toys

One manufacturer caught up in the current delays is Sidney Yu, whose Hong Kong-based firm Prime Success Enterprises Ltd. makes educational and recreational products like children’s tents and pet baths.

Yu has five containers delayed due to the outbreak in Ningbo,

Not a new player, but a lurker who is finally caught up with the main story. Just wanted to share my thoughts of my time with this game and join the conversation.

Hello denizens of r/grandorder! Off/on lurker, first time actually posting here. Now I'm not new to the game, I've actually been playing for 2 years now. After recently finishing Atlantis, I figured now would be a good time to say hello and also reflect with the incoming new year. (Some possible light spoilers ahead for those who aren't that far yet.) I originally tried to avoid this place as I was always behind one chapter in the main story and wanted to avoid spoilers, but since now I no longer am...

I got into FGO because I was a big fan of the Fate series already. I have always loved hearing about different myths/legends from all over the world, and I'm also a history buff. I have always loved this series for it's creative takes on such prominent figures, and the interesting stories woven around them. So after when I last updated my phone and found out the mobile game had an English version I HAD to check it out. Heck, I couldn't have found a better time to get into it either.

You see, I work as a cashier at a grocery store (3 years now), and these current strange times have not been kind to us customer service workers. I won't go into it too much, but constantly getting yelled at for things beyond my control, hearing insane conspiracies about Covid (like the whole G5 spreading Covid non-sense), then hearing horrific stories from people who lost someone to Covid (triggering my PTSD from my own experience with my father and the medical issues he had years prior)....it really wears you down. While these days it has been somewhat better, there's still rough moments. I recently had one lady get angry at me because the price for a book of postage stamps increased by 60 cents. She even demanded to see a manager because what the federal government wanted to charge for postage was somehow my fault.

What does this have to do with FGO? That's because this game helped saved my sanity.

All throughout 2020, after I would get home from my evening shift and play for a few hours to get my mind off the real world. I admit disconnecting yourself from reality is not exactly β€œhealthy”, but when reality has moments like having a package of raw chicken literally thrown at you (no joke), I really needed that mental break to keep from going crazy myself. Digging into an RPG game of a series I already love was a perfect distraction.

For the game itself, a highlight reel of my last 2 years with this game:

When I first started playing the game, I had a goal of obtain

These aren't dad jokes...

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
