This happened in England. Today I received a letter from a railway company explaining to me that in May I committed an offence by failing to purchase the correct ticket and am now required to pay around ยฃ100 as an avoidance fare and admin costs. I have the option to go to court, but that would also assume the risk of potentially having my legal fees as well as the railway companyโs legal fees added to my fine. I disagree with the companyโs conclusion as mistakes such as buying the wrong ticket is a human error and it was the undercover ticket wardenโs lucky day when he caught me, a poor student, with the wrong ticket. Additionally, if I was to be fined, why was it not on the spot? Why write me such a strongly worded letter 5 months later? Iโd really appreciate any advice on this.
It is common in many countries for the government to fund passenger train services through subsidies. Even then many rail operators incur losses that are paid for by the taxpayer. In Japan, most train companies are for profit ventures that do not require heavy subsidies from the government.
Here are a list of railway companies in the world with their profits. These are for the 2019 financial year to exclude the financial impact due to the pandemic.
Train company | Profit (USD) |
---|---|
SNCF | -801 million |
Amtrak | -29.8 million |
Renfe | 116 million |
Here are the profits of railway companies in Japan for the 2019 financial year.
Train company | Profit (USD) |
---|---|
JR East | 2.66 billion |
JR West | 803 million |
Kintetsu | 444 million |
All the companies listed in the table above are publicly listed companies in the Tokyo Stock Exchange. JR East and JR West are constituents of Topix, an index used to track companies in Japan. Tokyo Metro, currently owned by both the Tokyo and Japanese governments, is planning an IPO.
Japan is also known for fast and reliable trains. It is no coincidence that profitability is a huge reason for reliability. So why is Japan able to provide profitable train services in a way most countries are unable to? Letโs take a look.
How do Japanese railway companies make money?
As a transport company, the main job is to get people from one place to another. In this case, through trains. Japanโs rail ridership is amongst one of the highest in the world. 72% of distance travelled is travelled using a train. Some routes are served by multiple railway operators, which gives consumers choices on what works best for them. Ther

The only real proof they showed in the Letter was the IP address which they appearantly used to track the download to us while i can confidently say nobody in my family illegally downloaded or upload that game and the IP address is not any of ours. To shorten the entire letter and not make it unnecessarily long they basicly gave us till the 15th To pay 850 Euros and then rest over coming months.
I have no idea what to do considering none of us did any of this.
It would be nice if anyone could give any Advice on what to do.
If you have any questions ill try my best to respond.

Hi folks
I had invested in GSHHY (I'm in North America) and recently learned that this company delisted themselves from the US stock exchange. It seems they're now on the HK stock exchange.
At my brokerage I'm unable to access the shares; the brokerage told me to contact GSRC to resolve the issue.
I have tried reaching GSRC via their Investor Relations phone & email, which is provided at:
https://www.gsrc.com/en/list/25.html
However I've been unable to get any pickup/response from any of their phone or email.
Has anyone experienced this type of situation before?
