#On this day (November 7) in Nintendo history...

  • Hiroshi Yamauchi was born in 1927 in Kyoto, Japan. A Japanese businessman. He was the third president of Nintendo, joining the company in 1949 until stepping down on May 31, 2002, to be succeeded by Satoru Iwata. During his 53-year tenure, Yamauchi transformed Nintendo from a hanafuda card-making company that had been active solely in Japan, into the multibillion-dollar video game publisher and global conglomerate that it is today. As of April 2013, Forbes estimated Yamauchi's net worth at $2.1 billion; he was the 13th richest person in Japan and the 491st richest in the world. In 2008, Yamauchi was Japan's wealthiest person with a fortune at that time estimated at $7.8 billion. At the time of his death, Yamauchi was the largest stakeholder at Nintendo. Yamauchi was born in Kyoto to father Shikanojo Inaba and mother Kimi. On September 19, 2013, aged 85, Yamauchi died at a hospital following complications of pneumonia. Nintendo released a statement stating that its staff members were mourning the loss of their former president.

  • Mario Kart: Double Dash!! was released in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube in Japan. In this racing game, developed by Nintendo EAD, its everything its velocity-packed prequels were, and much, much more. The character list is full of familiar faces - long-time kart pilots like Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi wouldn't miss this incarnation for the world. But a host of new faces want in on the high-speed thrills, too - making for a total of at least 16 riders. Why so many? Partly because, for the first time ever, it's two characters to a kart.

  • Ridge Racer DS was released in 2004 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this racing game, developed by Nintendo Software Technology, power sliding packs a whole new thrill when you're pulling skids via the Touch Screen! Welcome to Ridge Racer DS, the classic arcade racer expertly reassembled for maximum dual screen drama. With 20 racetracks across three locales taking in urban streets and desolate deserts, you'll need to master every last curve of these courses to beat your rivals.

  • Mario Party 7 was released in 2005 for the Nintendo GameCube in North America. In this party game, developed by Hudson Soft, for their latest party, Mario and friends have embarked on a world cruise - but Bowser's been left behind, and he's determined to spoil their fun.
